I think Isabel Wilkerson really got to the foundational roots of most of the strife in America, throughout the world and throughout human history.
I recently watched Origin which is based on her book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. I think the movie is an engaging blend of the biopic and documentary genres. It's a great synopsis of her book and I think she's spot on. I also think it's critically important that we all start to recognize the connected patterns that she lays out between US racism, the Nazi Holocaust, and the Indian caste system.
Currently, the movie can only be streamed by renting it on Amazon Prime. Anyone who wants to watch the movie should stop reading here, until they've watched the movie, because the rest of this post will contain mild spoilers.

Rather than repeat Isabel Wilkerson in my words, I decided to provide links to hear her in her words. Everyone please take note that I didn't provide a single social media post that selectively quotes her words. I've given you links that go to her directly as the source.
The reason I decided to make this thread is because Wilkerson explains in this article how America's caste system is connected to past and current events, including Jan 6th. I think it explains a lot about the MAGA movement and what they will do if we give them more power by voting more of them into office. It also explains the current global rise in fascist/authoritarian movements.

The movie Origin explains how the Nazi's studied Jim Crow law's in the US to create the legal and social framework needed to achieve the Holocaust. It turns out, the Nazis learned from us, so MAGA is not following Joseph Goebbels's playbook. Joseph Goebbels followed the United State's OG MAGA's playbook. What's old is new again, and again, and again, until we collectively break the cycle.
In this NPR interview she explains how the strife in the US is more than racism.
This is an article she wrote after George Floyd was killed and the protests of his killing.

This is the one link that is not a direct source to Wilkerson. I couldn't find anything were she discusses the 8 Pillars of Caste in detail This seems to be a fairly accurate summary of the 8 Pillars she describes in her book. If you don't read any of the other links, please read this one in its entirety.

Anyone who's seen my posts knows that I have no problem writing really long threads. In this case, I'd rather people hear directly from Isabel Wilkerson in her words to minimize my impression influencing other people's impression.
I encourage people to check out what she has to say, because I think it's both very important and very urgent.

From Jan. 6 to Tyre Nichols, American Life Is Still Defined by Caste
Recent events are a reminder that the caste system still determines American life—but we can overcome it, writes Isabel Wilkerson

America’s Enduring Caste System (Published 2020)
Our founding ideals promise liberty and equality for all. Our reality is an enduring racial hierarchy that has persisted for centuries.
