A lockdown was declared at Parliament Hill’s East Block Saturday afternoon, according to an alert from the Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS).
“Seek shelter in the nearest room. Close and lock all doors and hide,” the alert sent at 2:45 p.m. said.
The alert asks those not in the immediate area to stay away until further notice and not to travel to places under lockdown.
“Wait for further instructions from first responders,” PPS said.
CTV News cameras at the scene saw Wellington Street closed to traffic in both directions between O’Connor and Elgin streets.
About a dozen Ottawa police and PPS vehicles were seen in the area.
The Ottawa Police Service is asking the public to avoid the area.
CTV News has reached out to PPS for more information.
