Assassination attempt on Trump (5 Viewers)

I agree and also there were people yelling he had a gun and someone yelled his name right before he fired so that could have distracted him too.

I agree again. It wasn't a hug area with a bunch of buildings to cover. Where the shooter was definitely should have been checked out and locked down so nobody could get up there.

    Huge mistakes were made.

The federal government relies heavily on local resources for all kinds of assistance. I'm guessing the USSS had a plan in place for locals to secure the AGR. I would not be surprised if locals lacked personnel/resources or some were just watching the speech.

The immediate question is going to be "What did the USSS do?" There will a deep dive on their actions. However, I bet locals may ultimately be the group dropped the ball here.

I understand your point. I said it seemed like that because you didn't say anything about how big of a failure the security there was.

I think it’s clearly a failure - I’d like to see what the investigation reveals but clearly we cannot have a shooter taking a vantage point like that. It’s a failure and we have to find out what the hell was going on.

And I agree that certain kinds of failures require accountability at the highest level - but we don’t know enough about this yet.

But I’m seeing some pretty aggressive rhetoric about the USSS director being a woman and a DEI hire and that is the direct reason why this happened. It’s disgusting.

Yes it’s also disgusting that a person (a white young man) can walk up to the vicinity of a campaign speech with a military weapon and shoot the candidate. There’s a lot to unpack here.

That's how breaking new is usually posted on X. If you would have scrolled over to the next page in this thread you would have seen I posted the link.

Most of the news posted on X is broken.

Have you ever tried to scroll around on this board when a thread is this busy???

The posts get all scrambled up, I end up reading the same post three or four times, and don't see other posts which are in-line.

It's not this way for the usual Slow-Mo threads around here. Only the busy ones get scrambled.

That photograph of Trump pumping his fist with blood on his face is a good image for him. My theory is this: After the first shots, the SS swarmed him and got him to the ground for several seconds. I think they were waiting for word that the snipers got the shooter before standing him up. When they got the word, they told Trump before standing him up. And knowing the shooter was dead, he did what he did. Whatever you think of the guy, he instinctively recognizes how to use that type of situation.

Never underestimate Trump's impulsive ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

    I'm anxiously waiting.
He allegedly bragged today after making a golf shot that "unlike the shooter he never misses." Never mind that the father that was killed. If he didn't say that, he'll soon say something vile and insensitive that will wipe out any favorable view of him for people who aren't his devotees.

Of course its possible it was done for non political reasons.

I was referencing the liberal PAC he donated to when the usual suspects here wanted to make this guy out to be a Republican probably to distract from all the Trump is Hitler and he will end democracy rhetoric from Democrats and the media.
as the information stands right now, do you think it was a political assassination attempt?

If he answers yes to this. I would like to follow up with "How did Democratic rhetoric towards Trump play a part in Republican on Republican violence?"

He quite possibly lost a bet with someone that Biden wasn’t going to be inaugurated. The donation was on Inauguration Day. Sure this is just a guess but it makes perfect sense.

He registered as a Republican when he turned 18. He wore a pro-gun site’s shirt. He was a loner, bullied in high school. That’s about all we know right now.
I’ve worked with kids for 55 years and being bullied and a loner can result in some pretty aberrant behavior. Also, keep in mind that trump is the gross epitome of a bully. So a natural target for someone who has slipped over the edge.
