There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

What states does this apply to?
Gimme a sec. Just found an article.

    EDIT: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-check-delayed-ballots-key-battlegrounds.html

A federal judge has given the U.S. Postal Service just hours to sweep some mail processing facilities for delayed ballots and and dispatch them immediately as the 2020 Presidential Election vote count gets underway.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan ordered postal officials to complete the inspections by 3 pm and certify by 4:30 pm EST that no ballots were left behind.

Affected by the order are facilities in central Pennsylvania, northern New England, greater South Carolina, south Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Alabama and Wyoming.

Officials at postal facilities in big cities must also sign off on the sweep.

They include mail centers located in Atlanta, Georgia; Houston, Texas; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Detroit, Michigan; and Lakeland, Florida.

Here's a link to like 100 other articles about it. I just went with the first. Surprised this is like 20 hours (and it looks like, in some cases, 2 days) old and just hit twitter.

Yeah, haven't heard much about this, but yeah. Seems to cover a lot of states. I find it interesting that a judge can do this.

Working at a school paid off by automatically having the day off due to the locations being used for voting. I attempted in my area to go to the one lone early voting locations on 4 different occasions only to see the line wrapped around the building. Thankfully when I went this morning, it only took me about an hour to get through the line. The same little old ladies were working as they have each time I've voted here. I appreciate their time and dedication, but they tend to move at a really slow pace and stop to chat with people they know. Between that and there only being 4 machines at my location, it seems like things could have gone even faster.

Voters wait in a long line to cast their ballots at Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City.

Normally, it would not have been in the courts but due to the governments willful attempt to sabotage the USPS, legal intervention was required.

Here's the USPS IG Report on DeJoy's active measures:

    https://www.uspsoig.gov/sites/default/files/document-library-files/2020/20-292-R21.pdf

I find it more than disturbing the updated late mail percentages were redacted from the report as if it's some sort of national security risk.

The U.S. Postal Service experienced some of its worst delays all year in the final week before the election, according to a project tracking first-class mail by The Upshot. An avalanche of late-arriving political pamphlets and advertisements appears to have added to backlogs for the Postal Service, following months of slowdowns.

The Postal Service reports that most ballots that are easily tracked have been processed on time, as postal workers prioritize election mail. But there are also signs in the official data that even some ballot processing has slowed as Election Day has neared.

To track the performance of the mail system, The Upshot has been following about 54,000 pieces of first-class mail a day. Delivery began to slow in July with the start of operational changes and has lagged since. The week beginning Oct. 26 was the slowest week we have recorded for local mail, which the Postal Service aims to deliver within two days.

All these notes and reports ( bigdaddysaints on EE reported his precinct he is working has 1361 registered voters and with mail in, has 1007 as of 330pm voted- 80% ) make me smile.

SBTB posted about Broward. This is democracy in action and i couldnt be prouder. I served this country for folks to have this very opportunity.

I would do it again in a heartbeat.

(Bloomberg) -- Pennsylvania Republicans sued officials in a suburban county near Philadelphia that is expected to heavily favor Democrats, alleging they illegally allowed mail-in ballots to be counted before Election Day.

The suit targeting Montgomery County officials was filed in federal court in Philadelphia on Tuesday by Kathy Barnette, a Republican candidate for Congress, and Clay Breece, chairman of the Republican Party in neighboring Berks County.

In Pennsylvania, vote tabulation is prohibited until 7 a.m. on Election Day.

Republicans also allege Montgomery County officials are allowing some voters with defects in their ballots to correct them. They are asking a federal judge to stop the county from contacting any voter whose ballot is defective and order that any defective or revised ballots be set aside. According to the suit, the county’s Board of Elections had identified at least 1,200 ballots that were defective as of Oct. 31.

The county believes that its process is “sound and permissible under the Election Code,” Kelly Cofrancisco, a spokeswoman for Montgomery County, said in a statement. She said a hearing in the matter was scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday......................

Of course they run to the feds to interpret what state law is...

Reading a little the DOJ filed to say that the Postal Service couldn’t accommodate because they have their own schedule of inspections which will be completed between 4 and 8 PM. Of course, in most districts that’s too late for those votes to count. Which is as intended, IMO.
