    I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

    Good Op-Ed from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan who's been consistently one of the few prominent Republicans to call out Trump
    ==================================

    My wife, Yumi, and I stood on the tarmac, waiting in cloth masks, on the morning of April 18. Finally, a Boeing 777 landed and taxied to the far corner of Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport. It was the first Korean Air flight ever to land at BWI, but it didn’t have a single passenger aboard. The crew of five had flown 14 hours, straight from Seoul.

    “Congratulations, honey,” I told Yumi as the pilot turned off the engines. “You helped save a lot of lives.”

    The plane was filled with 500,000 test kits for my state, where the coronavirus had already infected 12,308 Marylanders and killed 463 of them. The numbers were still climbing, and we would never be able to contain them without mass testing. “Anybody that wants a test can get a test,” President Trump had declared the previous month.

    In reality, only 2,252 Americans had been tested at that point in March. Across the country, my fellow governors were desperately pleading for help on testing. But in early April, Trump said it was the states’ job.

    Now the kits had arrived. The crew members came down together, walked over and stopped six feet away. Yumi bowed, and the crew bowed in return. Following their lead, so did I. Then a caravan of Maryland National Guard trucks escorted by the Maryland State Police drove the tests from the airport to a refrigerated, secure warehouse at an undisclosed location.

    The federal government had recently seized 3 million N95 masks purchased by Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker. We weren’t going to let Washington stop us from helping Marylanders.................

    Good read.

    The madness from that time was just mind-blowing. The PPE getting swiped to the point of Robert Craft an huge trump supporter used his own plane to haul needed supplies so the trump administration could not steal them spoke volumes about how horrible it was.

    This whole thing really just is a huge example how the republican party is not for the working class, middle class (what is left of it). How we are truly all on our own the working class has to have real emergency funds yet corporate America always gets a bailout.

    Real change is coming. November can't get here fast enough.

    Agreed, I just wish Hogan could have worked up the momentum to challenge Trump for the Republican nomination....I'm not saying I would necessarily vote for him over Biden but it would give everyone a better candidate and choice to consider...he obviously cares about folks here in MD....

    I live in Maryland and I can't say that I'd vote for Hogan for President either.

    But what I can say is that I'd think about it, longer, harder and more carefully than I would any other Republican candidate

    It's all a hoax, everyone is lying
    ================================

    President Donald Trump on Monday shared a handful of social media posts questioning the expertise of his own public health officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, and suggesting their scientific counsel was intended to thwart his political standing ahead of November’s general election.

    In a burst of early morning online activity, Trump retweeted messages from the politically conservative former game show personality Chuck Woolery — who had stints hosting “Wheel of Fortune” and “Love Connection” — which lamented the spread of the “most outrageous lies” regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

    “Everyone is lying. The CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors, not all but most, that we are told to trust. I think it's all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. I'm sick of it,” Woolery wrote in a tweet shared by the president.

    In another post Trump retweeted, Woolery claimed there exists “so much evidence, yes scientific evidence, that schools should open this fall. It's worldwide and it's overwhelming. BUT NO.”

    Trump also retweeted a message from Mark Young, Woolery’s co-host on his “Blunt Force Truth” podcast, which asked: “So based on Dr. Fauci and the Democrats, I will need an ID card to go shopping but not to vote?”.........................

    Monday - Woolery says it's all a hoax and everyone is lying

    Tuesday - His son tests positive

    Wednesday - Woolery says Covid is real and serious

    I'm sorry about his son, and I hope his son pulls through just fine but this sort of thing pisses me off.

    One of the criticisms of conservatives is that nothing is real, important or serious until it affects them personally and here we are.

    Same goes for Mulvaney, he didn't have a problem with testing until his son couldn't get his results for a week, NOW testing is a problem

    And even worse than these 180's is when they act this was their opinion the whole time and deny ever saying or feeling any different

    ==================================================================

    Former game show host Chuck Woolery announced Wednesday his son has tested positive for COVID-19, just days after accusing medical professionals and Democrats of lying about the virus in an effort to hurt the economy and President Trump's reelection chances.

    Woolery, who hosted several popular game shows including "Love Connection" and "Wheel of Fortune" and is a staunch supporter of the president, has since deleted his Twitter account following the announcement around his son.

    "To further clarify and add perspective, Covid-19 is real and it is here. My son tested positive for the virus, and I feel for of those suffering and especially for those who have lost loved ones," Woolery tweeted before his account disappeared.

    The message comes after Woolery tweeted Monday denouncing "outrageous lies" being told about the coronavirus, comments that Trump retweeted to his more than 83 million followers................

    Exactly what is to be expected from a person who fails at marriage over and over yet a good Christian!

    A man that tried over and over to be famous and landed at game show host. Then the game show that blew up the biggest did after he was replaced.

    Here is the one hit he had.

    Hope his son does pull thru.

    I miss the days when all we had to worry about is terrorist attacks.

    A good article on why the Coronavirus (and the BLM protests) have done what a thousand other scandals (and an impeachment!) failed to do.

    What a surprise. Once again the media is taking what she said out of context. It appeared that she mispoke and then shortly after saying that she said the science is on our side.
    Did you see and listen to her entire statement during her briefing? I did. She was not taken out of context. She literally said what was she was reported to have said. It was not a case of misspeaking and then correcting herself either. She's the only taking what she said out of context.

    She started off by saying science can't stand in the way of reopening schools. She explained all the science backed harms of children not socializing. Then she bizarrely switched to "the science is on our side" after reading an out of context quote about children being a lower risk of serious illness. Notice how she said the science was "on our side." That tells me everything I need to know about her and the administration's motivations on this issue.

    This isn't about what they think is best for the children. This is about what they think is best for "their side." It's a depraved view to have about the health and well being of children.

    Part of her problem is that she's just parroting what she's been told to say about everything. She has to tab through a binder hidden on her podium before she says anything. She is closely following a script. She's a professional parrot.

    I really wish you would put more effort into verifying the truth of things you post before you post them.

    SIDENOTE: Schools are not the only way for children to socialize. There are much safer ways for children to socialized right now besides packing into schools for hours a day.

    Lol misspoke. Yeah that's it. That's the ticket.

    It wasn't taken out of context. She clearly said it, immediately realized her gaffe and tried to mitigate.

    And what's up with her reference to the Oval office as "the Oval"? It's the Oval office. She isn't speaking to a room of 14 year olds on Instagram.

    And yall wonder why they get no respect. They can't even respect the dignity of the office of the President.

    Actually when you listen to the fuller quote, it sounds even worse.

    I never said I agreed with what she was saying and I strongly disagree with withholding funding from schools if they don't open.

    Let's not act like the media didn't intentionally cut off her quote to make it seem like she was saying something different that what she did. We even have Democratic operative... I mean CNN's Jake Tapper speaking to that.

    "If I could just say, Sanjay," Tapper interjected. "I think she was just trying to say that the science shouldn't stand in the way because the science is on our side. I don't know that all of the science is on their side- and certainly, this White House, their respect for science knows bounds, let's put it that way, but I think that's what she was getting at."

    I suppose the real question should be, how come every time the President or White House says something, we have to dive 10 layers down to discover some actual supposedly hidden meaning, or to get the joke that they claim should have been obvious? Its become the new norm. Make a statement, see it blow up in your face, blame the media for distorting it by showing everyone the clip, spin the next few days saying it means something completely different and that people take things too seriously/literal/out of context/whatever.

    Because that's what gas lighters do. It's not an accident.
