    Something that I have been meaning to address...

    Whenever you post links on this board, whether it be links to articles, Tweets, Instagram's, etc., or even when teasing and linking to articles, you need to add context. Otherwise, it is considered a naked link, which is frowned upon on the MCB.

    So whenever you post such links on this particular board, you need to comment, and not just three words like "Here it is" or "So it begins". You should comment on why you posted it, and/or offer your own opinion regarding what you are linking to. Add some substance.

    Below is the rule regarding such, which includes memes. It is rather vague, and I need modify it for the purpose of clarification, however I just wanted to clarify in this post, since recently members have been reporting instances of naked links and inflammatory memes and complaining about them.

    We want the Community Discussion Board to be free of troll posts, thread-jacking, inflammatory drive-by posts, utterly stupid commentary, belittling, personal attacks, insulting behavior, or any behavior that incites malicious partisan bickering. This includes posting links to extreme views without explaining your own position (Naked Links), which otherwise is considered baiting. It also included the posting of meme's and GIFS that are intented to insult or antagonize members that do not share your partisan beliefs.

    What's the difference/line between a humorous meme and an inflammatory meme? Or is a humorous meme about the other side considered inflammatory?
     
    I wanted to ask about this somewhere, because it is somewhat meme related. What about avatars that are meme-like? For example someone using a meme picture of Biden smelling a woman's hair etc

    Or an Avatar of Trump dressed like a clown?

    If I posted a meme of Biden dressed as a clown it would be a no no... If I had an Avatar of Biden dressed as a clown it would be ok?

    I don't know if it's really a place for input/feedback, so sorry if I'm overstepping, Andrus.

    Personally, I see avatars and in thread content a bit differently. If either of the images Joe posted were dropped in a thread, that obviously doesn't add anything to a conversation and should be frowned upon.

    Our avatars are more...expressions. Link has nothing to do with politics, but he's my avatar. Having a Trump or Biden clown as yours doesn't really change the content of a thread. There have been a couple that are just silly pictures of candidates/figures. Like does the Kavanaugh surrounded by beer one BF used at one point become less funny if I were to use it instead?
     
    I don't think the point is to sanitize every single potentially offensive thing, even though there is a rule about signatures being agenda free. See below, but I think this may have been a direct copy from SR, and some items may not apply.

    The point is to ensure graphics foster discussion or are innocently funny (I'll show in another post). The point is this is a discussion board, not a smack board.

    Signature File Guidelines:

    What are our Signature File Guidelines?

    Here are some simple and VERY old rules.

    A) Please limit them to 3 lines of text. No short stories or novellas.

    B) ** We prefer that your sig pics be more horizontal than vertical.

    C) Keep your signature pics less than 80K in file size (file weight), and if you hot-link to images outside of this domain, please keep them below 100K in file size. Also, make sure that you have the permission of the website that you are hot-linking to when using their images.

    D) Your sig pics for may have a maximum width of 450 pixels and a maximum height of 200 pixels.

    E) Keep them spam free, and free of agenda that includes unauthorized quotes from fellow members for the purpose of public ridicule.

    F) The avatar guidelines below apply to Signature pics (and profile pics) as well. Signature pics must be family friendly.

    Avatar Guidelines:

    "Google ads may not be placed on adult or mature content. This includes any site which contains:
    " full nudity
    " pornographic images, videos, or games
    " pornographic cartoons or anime (hentai/ecchi)
    " Strategically covered nudity
    " Sheer or see-through clothing
    " Lewd or provocative poses
    " Close-ups of breasts, buttocks, or crotches
    " Avatars are portable from board to board, keep them free of graphics intended to insult, offend, or otherwise anger other members of opposing political beliefs.

    We do reserve the right to delete any avatar that we deem to be too provocative, sexually suggestive, or otherwise, for any reason whatsoever.

    We recommend that Avatars not be more than 60KB in file weight.

    Use your judgement. I'm not going to define the line here, but here are some possible end points. Basically, if it's ribbing a group, it's likely not going to be welcome.

    To me, absolutely nothing wrong with this. However, it would be a bit difficult to fit it into a conversation.

    Looks like I will have to revisit this as there is too much gray area. I will put some thought into it and try to put something together that works for most members. In the meantime you all discussing the pro's and con's does help me figure it all out, so carry on with the discussion.

    I really wish that members were less easily offended and had more of a sense of humor so we could simply let the more light hearted political memes go. I mean, some of them coming from both sides are pretty funny. Obviously that isn't where we are in today's political climate.

    I so agree with that.. It's just a website.. It's meant to be fun... Just because I support Trump does not mean that I eat kittens for Breakfast... The only people who do that are club owners.

    Traditionally, newspaper coverage of politics consisted of three things:

    Hard news stories - Katrina, size, strength, wind speed, tidal surge, evacuations, deaths, damage.
    Editorial stories - Katrina, the federal government totally blew it.
    Editorial Cartoons - Satire, comedy and sobering thoughts.

    For whatever reason, the Editorial Cartoon leg of this news tripod is forbidden. In my opinion, that's not right.

When it comes to the Marine Corps, I sometimes state opinion as fact. Given my family history, it's a minor character flaw on my part.

    I've been distracted of late with the Brees' thing going on at SR. So what does that have to do with this topic? Are you saying it isn't right that we don't allow naked links to editorial cartoons? You are often hard to read, DD, as your messages often comes off as cryptic. Is that intentional?

    I honestly thought editorial cartoons were not allowed MCB . . . posted, linked or otherwise.
    What does that have to do with the topic?
    Generally, editorial cartoons tend to get lumped in with Internet memes, but they're as old as the Republic.
    I'm saying that it isn't right to have a blanket rule that bans sharing editorial cartoons.
    There's no intent to encrypt a message on my part. Straight up, I don't think editorial cartoons should be banned here.
    People who are so offended that they object to editorial cartoons on a political discussion website need to grow thicker skins.
    Of course, it's your website. Your call.

    I think that what is going to happen with memes, gifs and cartoons on this board, just like everything else will be a matter of the intent. Is it meant to get under the skin of the opposition? Is it a partisan trigger? If so, then no!

    that is basically a response that has no political context, then I don't see a problem with it.

    Your Katrina cartoon doesn't seem to be an issue either, but context would be expected. I mean, you just don't inject that out of nowhere into a topic that it has nothing to do with without explanation.

    Everyone needs to have thick skins in political discussions, unfortunately, as we all know, that is not the case. So we have rules. Rules that go against those that are here to be entertained by playing triggering games with the opposition.
