We have a running thread about the 2020 Democratic race at large, but 538 is now showing that Bernie Sanders has a nearly 50% chance of carrying a majority of delegates into the Democratic National Convention (with the current runner up being "no one has a majority" at close to 40%). At some point in the near future--maybe as soon as Super Tuesday next week when he wins California--it will be time to acknowledge that Sanders is the probable nominee and there is nothing Biden or Bloomberg or anyone else in the race now can do to stop it. So, what happens then?

I know that the Trump voters will say he's crazy and use that as their excuse for voting for Trump (who they were voting for anyway under any circumstance, let's all be clear and honest about that). But how does everyone else feel about it?

Well if Bernie gets the larger portion of the Hispanic vote and the youth vote he would win Texas walking away.

You know that 38% of Texas is Hispanic right? 12% black.

And shockingly the median age in Texas is 33. So lots and lots of young people.

With a large voter turnout Texas will be won by Bernie.

"Hispanic" isn't the catchall people make it out to be.

Sanders is leading with Latino voters in Texas in the latest polls. It will be pretty close between Sanders and Biden, unless Biden doesn't do well in SC and loses support.

The survey found Biden with 22.5 percent support in the Lone Star State and Sanders with 22.1 percent, followed by Warren with 18.3 percent. No other candidate cleared the 15 percent threshold necessary to claim delegates in the state.

Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg pulled 13.4 percent in the poll, followed by former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg with 11.9 percent and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) with 7.2 percent. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) received 3.5 percent support, followed by businessman Tom Steyer with 1.1 percent.

Broken down by ethnicity, the results show Sanders continuing to enjoy a large lead among Latino voters, who also overwhelmingly supported him in the Nevada caucuses. Sanders led with 30.3 percent of Latino voters, followed by Biden with 18.9 percent and Warren with 16.8 percent.

Biden led among African Americans by an even wider margin, with 45.8 percent, compared to 17 percent for Bloomberg and Sanders with 15.1 percent. This is in contrast to South Carolina, the first primary state with a large portion of African American voters, where Biden’s African American support has eroded in recent months with Sanders only a few points behind.

Question for those on the left and moderate side of the political spectrum - will Bernie's self proclaimed status as a Democratic Socialist (or his policies) cause you to refrain from him?

I would say that Latino isn't the catchall people make it out to be either.

Saying "Hispanic" or "Latino" is no different from saying "American". Too broad a stroke.

It's a little more defined than American, but I get you point and agree. Still, here in a the US, it's an classification that binds a group of people together enough to give them political power and clout.

Bernie is going to get the nomination. There isn't anything they can do that will stop him. The Millennial and Hispanic vote together is more powerful than any single voting block in the country. Using super delegates this time around to take it from Bernie would be the end of the Democratic party.

I'm a fan of Socialism, but Bernie is not going to be able to follow through on his promises because of Congress. Even with Dem majorities he's not going to be able to get a democratic socialist platform passed.

More gridlock, frustration, and radicalization. Just like Putin wants.

Bernie will lose Florida, but win Texas, so it would still be an electoral college gain.

This is pretty much how I feel.

Though I'm not a fan of Socialism (but I am a fan of some Socialistic leaning programs) the same as I'm not a fan of Capitalism (but I am a fan of some Capitalist leaning programs)....What I'm a fan of is the perfect, ok, reasonable balance of the two....I feel right now Capitalism is dominating and that is very dangerous to our democracy (or democratic republic if you will)....

I personally don’t think Bernie is a great candidate, however he may surprise me. With that said, I will line up and gladly vote for him rather than Trump.

Bernie actually wants what best for people, IMO. And he’s not a raging narcissist with a serious personality disorder, so there’s that.

I doubt he will be able to deliver on what he is promising, which is why I have my doubts.

I don't see a way to stop him.

And I do agree the youngsters and minorities come out in numbers anywhere he will crush them all.

I do not have a problem with the medical for all thing.

You know why because I am a realist. We are letting people get sick rather than preventive health care younger. So we are paying staggering amounts when they reach retirement to fix real problems. Rather than deal with high blood pressure or something early we pay for stroke aftercare and rehab what costs us as a nation more?

Just imagine a healthier workforce equals more production. A win.

The uninsured loading up the emergency rooms and never paying for the care are really costing all of us more. So we are paying some way shape or form.

Realistically if my taxes go up and I don't have to fight to get something covered or do all the homework it takes to not be taken by my insurance carrier it would be a huge win for me.

If the Coronavirus gets really bad in this country, socialized medicine will look better and better to all. I will vote for whomever supports it including Bernie.

Pundits like to focus strictly on the numbers, while Bernie would be well served to highlight the massive reduction in hassle.
You don't have to worry about whether your doctor is in network or out, if it's a third Tuesday when the facility isn't in the covered locations list or if this part of the procedure is paid for while the other part isn't.
You show your card, you get care. Period.

To some extent, yes, but there are very few people on earth for whom I would not vote given a choice between them and Donald Trump.

Donald Trump is a putrid bag of hate. He is a liar and an ignorant clown who has debased the office of the President and fanned the flames of a fire that is boiling up the worst of this nation. That and his policies are wrong for the nation and his bumbling, hateful rhetoric unfit for general consumption.

I would probably vote for Ted Cruz before Trump if that says anything.

Capitalism isn't winning right now. Corrupt cronyism is. There is a difference.

Bernie/Trump as the only viable options on the ballot would be a truly dark day for democracy.

1st can we all acknowledge the irony of the whole board not considering this same antiestablishment plot played out less that 4 years ago

After warren, Bernie aligns the most with what I think needs to happen in this country - we have been in a flailing regressive trend for decades and the moderate speed bumps have not helped
    We need a course correction

A Bernie presidency would be interesting bc he would not be able to bully, lie, and bannon/sessions his agenda - coalition building would be interesting

My only reservation is I’m waiting to hear running mate/cabinet ideas from him

Well I guess you know already who the VP should be Warren.

They seem to be in the same fight.

I really like Stacey Abrams I have always been floored when I hear her speak.

I don't know enough about who is a popular person from a swing state. Picking my a running mate from a swing state would be wise.

Not really worried about the cabinet hell at least they will be remotely qualified and can pass a background check.
