Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

Remember when the GOP threw a complete hissy fit because some Dem prosecutors said they wouldn’t prosecute abortion cases (IIRC, can’t remember what exactly it was now). I think DeSantis illegally removed an elected prosecutor for that.

But it’s okay if Trump does it. The GOP is so lost right now. They are just a cult of personality.

They have reached absolute hubris. That will lead to their demise.

Not that I want to defend Trump in any way, however it’s possible he’s telling the truth

I used to occasionally say gypped to mean cheated and had no idea that to some the word had racial undertones

I didn’t find that out until I was in my 20s and once I did I stopped using the word

Same thing for Shylock, thought it meant a businessman (thought it was particularly for a lawyer not a banker) who would overcharge and intentionally under deliver.

    Is Trump telling the truth?

    Maybe, maybe not

Wouldn’t be wrong to bet on definitely not

Donald Trump has been accused of “blatant and vile antisemitism” at a rally in Iowa.

The president delivered a campaign-style speech during the America250 event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on Thursday, just hours after the House passed his signature tax-and-spending bill on the eve of the country’s 250th birthday.

As Trump promised that his megabill would usher in a period of prosperity, the president railed against “Shylocks” and “bad people,” before taking a swipe at the Democrats who uniformly opposed the legislation.

“No death tax. No estate tax,” Trump began. “No going to the banks and borrowing from, in some cases, a fine banker, and in some cases, Shylocks and bad people.”

“They destroyed a lot of families, but we did the opposite,” he added.

The term ‘Shylock’ comes from the character in William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. In the play Shylock, a Jewish moneylender, agrees with another character to take a “pound of flesh” if he can’t repay his loan.

The term was later considered offensive because it plays on harmful stereotypes of Jewish people and money.

While flying back to Washington, D.C., on board Air Force One, the president said he had “never heard that” the word could be considered antisemitic and opted to give his own definition of the phrase.

“I’ve never heard it that way,” he said. “The meaning of Shylock is somebody that’s a money lender at high rates. You view it differently. I’ve never heard that.”………

His bigotry is ingrained in him. And I don’t give him the benefit of the doubt ever. In any way, shape or form.

When I consider that his son in law is Jewish, and the circle in which he socilizes, I see this and my evaluation of this is he's a cranky old father in law who insults his son in law in meanness at best, this has been explained to him many times before.

    I say whack his P-P.

Wow. Nothing says celebrate 250 years of being a country like holding a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House.
And I expect it to be a pay per view event or on a subscription based network that gives Trump a share of the proceeds, not the office of president, Trump personally.

Though, I'd pay to see Trump vs Putin in a legitimate UFC fight.

Trump would often comment in the 80's and 90's that he only hired Jews as accounts. He's a bigot toward Jews even if he doesn't know the history behind the word shylock.

I will add that Trump is being disingenuous (read: lying) regarding the word “Shylock”. It comes from The Merchant of Venice by good, old Bill Shakespeare. Shylock was a Jewish moneylender who loaned money to, iirc, Antonio for financing some maritime business. The upshot of the story is that Shylock was vilely portrayed because the collateral he demanded was a pound of flesh.

Furthermore, iirc, the rise of the power of the Roman church from the collapse of the empire through the dark ages resulted in Jews being excluded from engaging in certain businesses. They were pushed into moneylending.

Yeah, Trump knew exactly what he was saying. Shyster is a term usually applied to unscrupulous lawyers.

I'm so out of touch on things TV that I had to lookup UFC to find out what that is, it's the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

In my book Ultimate is a frisbee game. I wouldn't object to a frisby game at the white house.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that Trump has never ever read a word of Shakespeare

Well, there is that. That being said his bigotry was formed by his old man and it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t pass that along to the Orange Orangutan.

Early Christians believed that lending money for profit/interest was anti-Christian, so that also contributed to the situation. The part of Sharia law that capitalists hate the most is the part that says money shouldn't be lent for profit/interest.

Trump's grandfather moved here around 1918 from Germany to avoid serving in the German army. Trump's grandfather and father had friends and family who lived under Nazi rule. They know what the Nazi's said about Jewish people and what they did to them. I don't buy for a second that Trump doesn't know what the term means.

Trump's trying to bring back "porch monkey" like in the comedy Clerks II.

Early Jews started that LA, early christians, and early muslims copied much of their views from that early Jewish law.

I didn't know that early Judaism taught that it was wrong to lend money for profit/interest. Another thing they all have in common is that many of them today have done a 180° turn on that original belief.
