In this article, he demands that a judge send a woman to jail for throwing a drink on him at a campaign event...because if the judge doesn't send a message, the judge is saying that "violence will be tolerated."

Since Gaetz refuses to take action against Trump for his various actions he is, therefore, saying that those actions will be tolerated.

The absolute weakness of this new crop of Republicans is just embarrassing to me as a male. I mean yeah, it was a crappy thing to have happen. The woman should probably face charges. But how far have we strayed from the strong durable near stoic male ideal when we're stuck between guys like this and Devin Nunez suing a cow. Manliness ain't what it used to be.

Yeah, this woman is a real piece of work.

Amanda Kondrat'yev nee Vanderwall, is a Florida activist who attempted to start a Pensacola chapter of Democratic Socialists of America in 2015 and then again in 2019. She ran for Congress in 2016, losing to Rep. Matt Gaetz, who she was later arrested for milkshaking.
Lives in Toronto, Ontario. Married to Andreiy Andreevich Kondrat'yev.

https://www.facebook.com/AmandaKondratyev/Yeah, she needs to be sentenced for assault, in my opinion.

Sorry, trying to tie this to anything to do with DJT is a stretch, I believe It does tie directly to Maxine Waters, however, in my opinion.

She lives in Toronto, Ontario? OK. Maybe she should be assaulting people in Canada instead.

Yeah, there's a lot of whining in today's society.

From what was available in the linked document, he did not whine about how he was personally harmed and he was absolutely correct in his statement to the court.

He spoke about how his constituents and staff need to feel safe going to political events, and he expressed concern that his constituents are capable of committing acts of violence as well.

He's right. We can't let the entire nation go the way of Portland, OR.

Nothing unmanly about his position in the least.

You sound like one of those cringy testosterone supplement commercials that targets insecure old white men. Is there really no better standard than "manliness" for you to judge someone by? Can we stop pretending we live in a John Wayne movie already?

Well I was being facetious, but these guys are always trying to capture that "I'm an alpha male" "I'm a tough guy" archetype that they think is what a man should be. Until they're challenged in the least, then it's instant whining about their mistreatment and how white straight men are so discriminated against.

There's a pretty big alt right movement currently questioning the masculinity of any male who considers himself a feminist or a liberal or who doesn't accept the "natural order" of women in subjugation to men. And Gaetz is to me a prime example of someone attempting to advance his political career off of those very beliefs.

I'm not trying to "tie it to DJT." I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of Gaetz letting Trump do whatever he wants, and actively defending him, but complaining that if this judge doesn't send a message, he will be saying that this type of behavior is tolerated.

To me, the woman's actions are akin to Maxine Waters call for confrontation and Gaetz's actions are him trying to protect himself and his followers against a loony ex-candidate that he beat at the polls. It's got nothing to do with DJT.

"I ask the court to sentence the Defendant to some time of incarceration.

Constituents deserve to be safe at events hosted by our congressional office. My staff deserves to be safe. Their families and mine shouldn’t have to worry that while federal officials are doing their jobs, we are at risk of assault.

Risk to everyone - federal officials, citizens and even law enforcement are heightened when an event transitions from a political expression to an assault."

Prediction - One of these times, somebody is going to approach an elected official in a threatening manner, a security detail is going to react and there's going to be dead people everywhere.

I've interacted with U.S. Senators, state representatives and governors, one-on-one. If you think they are alone and unprotected, and you can just walk up to them and start throwing stuff, you're badly mistaken.

Your thread asks "Did Matt Gaetz just admit that he is showing that Trump's bully tactics and corruption "will be tolerated." "
    My answer: No.

I agree, it sounds hypocritical. However, I think the way you phrased the title of the thread is probably too far. He didn't admit anything, it is how you are interpreting it.

    Might make people tune out.

What actions did POTUS commit that are equal to assault?

One pleaded guilty and awaiting sentencing, one not.
    Totally different.

I didn't say that he did. I said that Gaetz was saying that the judge's failure to send a message to the public by sentencing this woman was a statement that violence is tolerated. I then extrapolated that claim by Gaetz to his own behavior of being in a position of oversight on the president, and not holding the president accountable for ANY improper action (and by actively defending the president for improper actions) means that Gaetz is stating that those improper actions will be tolerated.

Gaetz is suppose to take action against Trump for what exactly? You said various actions. The actions that are under review right now and not all facts are known?
