I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

In good news, there’s plenty of room at the Arena tonight in Tulsa, so that the crowd can easily achieve proper social distancing. And this is sincere, it would be great if there isn’t a spike of cases from this event.

Evidently k-pop fans started the reserving of excess seats, which was then picked up by teens in this country. This explains the 800,000 or so ticket requests, which led the campaign to spend an estimated half a mil on that outdoor overflow space that wasn’t needed.

They did that even though this 65 year old grandmother knew about the bogus ticket campaign a week ago. It was openly discussed on Twitter that it was happening.

Wonder who will get fired over this?

Here’s a little perspective on the virus, it’s not a simple respiratory virus, it’s not like the flu. I’ve seen lab results unlike anything I’ve seen before in 40 years of work. Just a unique combination of results implicating wide spread systemic disease.

So I can only imagine what would happen from this administration if some of the EU nations actually decide to close off their borders to Americans.

Canada is looking to cut the border travel for as long as it needs to be.

Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, said they are following the situation south of the border closely and it should serve as a cautionary tale.

“We do see all of these kinds of trends as a warning signal for us again, reminding Canadians the virus is still around, very much around in many parts of the world including the U.S,” she said.

Dr. Isaac Bogoch, an infectious disease specialist at the Toronto General Hospital Research Institute and the University of Toronto, said it also appears to him the States opened up too soon.

“It’s probably some combination of poor policy that doesn’t take into account how contagious this is, reopening economies and lifting public health restrictions too early, people not adhering to existing public health guidelines. and then factor in barriers to health care, as well might be exacerbating numbers.”

everyone up here is talking about how stupid the states are and they want the border kept closed. Additionally, they wonder how the US can be the only really developed nation that has been so stupid.

I've been here 15 years now, and the US has always been criticized by Canadians - mixed in with admiration. But I've never heard anything like this. It's laughter and sadness and wonderment at how such an advanced nation can be so anti-science and so stupid

It's becoming a point of pride for people to wear masks to show how they aren't the US up here

I just said to my husband last night that several states opened up about two weeks too early. Two more weeks and we could have been in a much better place. Just put that in the pile of mistakes. Just a terrible job.

well played trump - he got the closed borders he campaigned so hard for
that's come 10D chess right there

Yeah. We look at the numbers here in Louisiana daily at my job and even here where Edwards was far slower than his southern brethren in re-opening, it ridiculous with bad things are starting to get simply because people are so stupid as to not follow the most basic guidelines. It's insane.

Illinois and Michigan were probably the two to do it right, and they almost had a state wide mutiny.

We severely lack National leadership. if Trump pushed masks and told folks to take it serious, we'd be over it faster. The deniers actually listen to him.

Do you think the protests and rioting contributed to the spike in Covid cases? Who specifically are you talking about for the terrible job?

Do you think the protests and rioting contributed to the spike in Covid cases?

Millions of people, for more than 20 days, protested and marched in New York City. Seems we might have a data point somewhere in there we could use to start comparing. Maybe it's coming, I don't know. But if you're asking the question of whether or not the protests and riots spiked, I think we need to look at where the spikiest spikes are.

California is having a spike, so maybe that is playing a role.

Philadelphia began marching on June 2 and have been marching since, with the massive protest taking place on June 7. They had a peak on June 16-17, a week and a half later. But it's dropped precipitously since then - but the data is still being assembled for the past couple of days.

Other places that are seeing spikes - how prevalent were the protests and marches statewide? In certain communities that are seeing rises?

as for a terrible job, I think Trump has done about as poorly as he could - from the very beginning when he wanted to keep a ship offshore so that the numbers didn't count. It's only been the economy leading the charge, and that was because it was tied to his re-election chances.

I think GOP Senators have done a pretty poor job of providing a check.

I think governors, on a case by case basis, deserve criticism too. I think Inslee didn't do well enough to begin with. I think Cuomo didn't do a great job leading up to the peak. I think governors in TX, AZ, SC, OK, GA and other such places are doing an awful job.

I thought Bel Edwards was doing a solid job, but I am quickly losing faith - in him and his electorate.

Yeah. I have been having some concerns here as well with how he's handling the spike. There's been playing with the numbers, repeated old excuses for the higher than normal increases that just don't make sense (particularly about lab results).

For all of her flaws, Cantrell is not afraid to piss people off and threaten to shut the city down again if they don't get their act together. And that is what is needed.

Minneapolis actually did set up some mobile testing sites as soon as they saw those huge demonstrations, in the affected neighborhoods. They offered free testing with no red tape. They haven’t seen an increase, they are recovering the same level of positives that they were seeing before.

Here they have asked all 10K who participated in our local version of the demonstration to go get tested twice. Once within 4 days and once again 8 days later even if they don't have any symptoms.

But we're doing a LOT of testing. You have to get a test within 48 hours of any doctor, dentist or hospital appointment or if you have been out of the country. There are free testing places all over. Because I had some appointments which was cancelled during the lock down, I have been tested for covid 19 FOUR times in 2 weeks LOL

All medical personel is testet every 48 hours. My daughter works as an audiologist at the local hospital and have been helping out with screenings so she too is tested every 2 days.

I think Bel Edwards has done a good job. Trump downplayed the virus initially and never had a clear message. Cuomo made one of the worst decisions so far by making nursing homes take known Covid patients while preventing the nursing homes from testing for Covid on admission.
