I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

You're lucky to have the opportunity to watch the Blue Angels like that. The last time I saw the Thunderbirds was on the beach and it was incredible. They were so close they were blowing beach umbrellas everywhere. What was really interesting is how if you got lost in conversation with someone they would be right on you before you knew it.

I am not unsympathetic toward this man. As a company commander, I made some decisions that probably put my career at risk but that I thought was in the best interest of my soldiers. When the air strikes started during the first Gulf war we received an order to go to MOPP 1 and start taking our PB pills. That might have been the right thing overall, but it made no sense as we were one unit in the middle of the desert and a SCUD strike on our location would have been a complete accident. Ignoring that order wasn't being hard headed, MOPP gear deteriorates when it is taken out of its package and I really did not want anyone taking those damn pills for no reason.

I don't care whose administration this occurred under, based on the facts as I know them it looks like it was appropriate and necessary to relieve this guy. In what turned out to be in a very public way, he broke the chain of command and he failed to follow proper security procedures. He transmitted information about the readiness of an aircraft carrier over unsecure channels.

Hell, one could even argue that his actions were heroic and they nonetheless had to relieve him.

It kind of reminds of the scene in Band of Brothers when they were ordered, for a second night in a row, to cross a river and capture German prisoners. The hero of the series, Dick Winters, saw that it was a foolish order that would result in casualties with no benefit. He told his men to get a good night's sleep and to submit a false report in the morning.

He did the right thing by his men, but if he had been caught he would have been rightfully court martialed.

I do not disagree with anything in this post.

Command takes orders. Their job is to execute them and the soldiers and sailors are to follow orders.

These orders were not illegal although likely wrong he still made his choice and is being celebrated for it. The fault and blame in this scenarior lies in the failings of the leader.

I am glad your terms of service were over before being subjected to this command. Same for my brother.

Sorry I didn’t just provide unverifiable anecdotes...

One has an article you can click on and the other is even quoting the governors own forking words. Just takes effort DD, something i shouldnt expect at this point but somehow still hope to one day see.

But I guess next we will move past that reflexive moment where your response indicates you know this to be wrong but don’t want to think you could support it, so you latch onto calling it fake news to defend dear leader. Next up I’m gonna guess we are going to move onto phase two, rationalize, equivocate, and deflect. That point where you know it is wrong but just want to act like others do it even though that’s bullshirt. Probably blend with phase three, attack more messengers. Maybe pepper with an anecdote so you can try and avoid accountability or criticizing the team.
See, here is the thing with this crisis that is different than the nonsense the right has perpetuated for the last 20 years.

    The game-plan no longer works.

The buck stops at your guy. The usual deflections and rationalizations now break down And are increasingly next to useless.

There is no scary Muslims or fake WMD’s to blame for why we got Americans killed in an unnecessary war.

There are no liberals running the federal government to point at to claim it was them that ignored the rising tides of the pandemic. Just your guy, your party. For four years.

You can’t blame borders when you failed to control them. Then when you did, it wasn’t the magical panacea claimed.

You can’t gaslight when the freezers rotating the bodies show up outside your hospital, when the body counts rise by the thousands a day. And everyone’s normal life is disrupted, not just faceless victims.

You can’t point to a illusory economy that’s basic counting stats look good.

You can no longer blame the normal cultural boogie men: the gays, blacks, trans, Mexicans, or in this case, the Chinese, breaks down when your guy/party failed to take the threat seriously and when you had total control, failed every additional test.

The only saving grace that exists is that people are so scared, and so in desperation of leadership that even when they get utter shirt that is literally killing them, they want to believe...But even that breaks down once things get too bad. As history has shown time and again.
    Bravo! :facts3:
These are the best posts I've seen here in some time.

    More apparently fake news:

Feds seize entire shipment of N95 and surgical masks from a New Jersey order planned to be distributed to hospitals in the region anticipating exponential growth or subject to shortfall.

All while that same Fed is calling it “their” stockpile and refusing to meet the demands the governors are asking to meet their anticipated shortfalls of which are getting exaggerated by the same fed confiscating the orders they helped bid the price up on...Oh, and threatening to then withhold that stuff if the states being affected don’t play nice about it.

Yep this stuff needs to get out.

This is because the national stockpile doesn't exist so nabbing your goods to give them back to you so you look like a savior.

    This is horrendous

This needs to get out what they are doing by rounding up all the supplies that people worked exceptionally hard to get.

If your here purpose is to "get out" a message, OK.
My purpose here is to share my own thoughts ideas in my own words with others who want to do the same, for entertainment value.

To that end, I won't be reading naked linked Twitter feeds like the ones shared:
    - Disgraced New York Times White House correspondent that got shipped off to London.
    - Boston communal consortium "blog of record" founder.
    - This guy:

I've never cared for Twitter. Never registered for it. Don't follow it.

Thank you for confirming that for some, the purpose here isn't to participate in a give-and-take discussion.

So you have a problem with the Franklin advocate?

That is the local paper that is reporting what happened to PPE stolen from the Franklin township in new Jersey?

Here is an article that Jake tapper had in his Twitter .

This is a huge problem. You should not steal PPE from any place in need like New Jersey.

My experience is all federal government, 40 years.

I find it difficult to.believe that the president can sign trillion dollar stimulus but can't sign a $1200 check.

Well, the law is pretty clear on that. Treasury Directive 16-23 states that: " By virtue of the authority granted to the Fiscal Assistant Secretary by Treasury Order (TO) 101-05, the Chief Disbursing Officer, Bureau of the Fiscal Service, is delegated authority to sign, in that official's name, checks drawn against all accounts of the Secretary of the Treasury. "

The Chief Disbursing Officer may delegate that authority to someone else, but it must be someone under his control. So, he could not delegate that authority to the president.

Trump knows we need outside help, and that China is the only country in any position to really help.

He’d rather send each governor off to accept aid and give thanks to the Chinese. It’s bad for his image.

I live on the Gulf Coast.
I could really, really care less about New Jersey.

I don't know if any here still doubt the seriousness of this virus, but it's worth a read:

Interesting, the drugs that many people keep saying don't work, worked for this guy too.

Doctors began treating him with hydroxycloriquine and zithromax. For Clint, the drugs worked. Within two days, he began to improve.

    I find this one amazing.

I am in New Orleans. This is just exactly how the rest of my state is playing with the lives of others.

The amazing part is the further you get out of the blue parts of Louisiana the worse they do on social distance.

Wonder if that has to do with the early message?

Well, Fox News viewership is inversely proportional to the distance from blue areas. The people in the blue areas tend to believe facts while to people in the areas away from the blue tend to believe Fox News and trump. Fox News only recently changed their tune on the virus to those folks are only now starting to practice safe distancing. Unfortunately for some of them, it's too late.

You are aware that what he was quoting- what he said needs to "get out"- was a straight news story, right?

I live on the Gulf Coast.
I could really, really care less about New Jersey.

Since your purpose here is to share your own thoughts, can you please expand on this one? Why are people from New Jersey not worth caring about?
