Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Is there any difference between Daesh and the Russian Armed Forces?

    The whole documentary:

One is a recognized state by the UN; the other isn't.

The murder movie shot by Wagner is stomach-turning. A carousel of four Russian-speaking men took turns beating Bouta with a sledgehammer. Then they cut off his hands and head with a shovel before stringing up his corpse by the feet and setting it alight. “Of course I couldn’t finish the video,” Alabdullah says, adding that there’s a longer version of it his relatives have seen. “They told me about the rest: that his head was cut off and they played soccer with it, kicking it at the wall with their feet.”

Looks like Russian missiles have hit a farm in Poland, killing 2 people. Correction: a grain drying bin not a farm.

See chitchat on Twitter that parts of debris might be an air defense missile. So could be a Russian missile that was intercepted and fell into Poland? Or a mis-fire of an air defense missile? Long way from knowing what actually happened just yet.

    Article 4. Not 5.
    Article 5...

if you are referring to the S-300, it can be used as a ground attack missile as well.

key here is "attacked" as in "intentional and knowingly" - while that cannot be completely verified either way, its most certainly a mistake of some sort. So Article 4 is the more appropriate measure.

And you cant invoke articles outright, steps have to be taken before you get to actual invoking of an article. So we will see in coming days how this is handled.

So, seems like it may have come from Ukraine. So glad we have Biden, instead of Trump. He was calm and toned down the rhetoric.

It's refreshing to see what a true leader is capable of and speaking truths. This is how you garner support globally.

Too easily, they could have used this instance to invoke article 4 or 5, but instead, thru analysis and honesty, we get the actual truth and are able to degrade the whole US/West/NATO are war mongers.

The AP article quoted an unnamed intelligence official. I'm reminded of this video about the CIA admitting to laundering US propaganda through the US media.

Except that it was the Polish who said it was a Russian missile, and the US who did an investigation and determined that was not the case.

    In one day.

Since Biden and the Democrats are allegedly hellbent upon creating a nuclear WWIII you would think they would have instead used this as the jumping off point.
