This could go in several threads but deserves one of its own. Apparently, the suspect got into the home and was looking for the Speaker. The police saw some of the attack and the spouse is in surgery. Social media accounts point to him being an election denier. This is pretty forked up.

ccording to court filings, David DePape told police that he intended to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage, interrogate her, and break her kneecaps if he believed she lied to him.

But when he arrived at the Pelosi household in San Francisco in the early morning hours on 28 October, he woke up her husband, threatened to tie him up with zip ties, and struck him in the head with a hammer, knocking him unconscious for three minutes in a pool of blood from his fractured skull.

The details of the attack on Paul Pelosi are outlined in several court documents based on 911 calls, police video, surveillance footage and interviews with Mr DePape himself, who reportedly told officers that he was “sick of the insane f****** level of lies coming out of Washington DC” and intended to send a message to members of Congress that there were consequences for their actions.

But within 48 hours of the attack, the case of a man who appeared to be immersed in toxic, online-driven conspiracy theories who nearly killed the Democratic House Speaker’s husband was thrown into chaos by the same far-right ecosystem that fuelled the attack.

Rather than dismiss debunked conspiracy theories that have deflected blame, right-wing media figures and GOP officials have given them a platform and used them against their political rivals.

And instead of condemning an act of violence and the potential assassination of an elected official, they have openly mocked it.

In the conspiracy universe, there was no home invasion, Mr DePape is Mr Pelosi’s leftist gay lover, and a far-reaching plot involving Democratic officials and mainstream media is covering up the facts to protect Ms Pelosi.

Those baseless claims – debunked by Mr DePape’s own alleged statements to police, as well as his own apparent online footprint and interviews with his family and neighbours – have been widely shared by influential right-wing figures and media outlets.

Other conservative influencers legitimised the claims by introducing questions that were either already answered in court documents or based on speculation from bogus sources…….

A troll is anyone they constantly disagree with. They have to resort to insults because they can't believe someone would think like us. Also, they know sometimes we are being sarcastic and they label that trolling as well.
Not all, but most the left has no sense of humor anymore. Watch late night.

They are old, and never invested stuff like shatter alarms.

I mean what is your theory then?

A very likely scenario, Paul probably didn't want the guy to get shot, and thought he was mentally unwell. The police walking in is also an immediate escalation of the situation to the perp. His fight, or flight would have kicked in.

I don't understand how this thread ended up this long. All the right wing posters could have been decent human beings said something like: "Political violence is awful. This has a history of happening to both sides, and it's tragic every time. My thoughts, and prayers are with his family." /end thread
I thought you guys decided 'thoughts and prayers' are a hollow gesture worthy of ridiclue? When did that change exactly?

Seriously, your reading comprehension sucks, you need to get that examined!

That is exactly what @J-DONK was looking for from you all, instead we got ridicule, stupid conspiracy theories and moronic jokes.

And the guy’s lawyer will use R disinformation as a defense: (from the article linked above)

“According to federal charging documents, Mr. DePape was enthralled by the conspiracy theories that have portrayed Ms. Pelosi as an enemy of the country. His online activities show him ranting about the 2020 election being stolen, seeming to deny the gassing of Jews at Auschwitz and claiming that schoolteachers were grooming children to be transgender.

His attorney has said he planned to argue that Mr. DePape was so influenced by disinformation that it should be considered a mitigating circumstance.”

IOW, the GOP literally drove him insane.

If they haven't heard it from the corporate press, then they claim it's a conspiracy theory. It doesn't matter what evidence or proof you show her. She will always deny that its happening or put her best effort at spin.

It's laughable that the same people who denied, downplayed, excused the BLM riots, looting and burning of cities now try to act like January 6th was worse than 9/11 or Pearl Harbor.
January 6th actually did far more damage to the underpinning of this country's government than 9/11 did. Never in his wildest dreams could Bin Laden think an attack on Congress would work.

Hunting is now a sin? Can you show me when that became a thing?
Hunting magnificent animals like lions and elephants, where you're not hunting for the meat, is a thing of the past. Frankly, I don't know how anyone can do it.

Pearl Harbor was worse, and another nation was trying to defeat us. 9/11 was worse from a standpoint of deaths, and because it led to an over reaction to the terrorism threat. January 6th was horrible because it was traitors trying to overthrow our government election. What makes it potentially worse than the others is that nearly half of Americans support the party that would try to finish the job that those traitors tried. At least Americans were United against Japan and Al Queda, which meant we were bound to win. Republicans may achieve what Japan and Al Queda could not.

Assuming that Paul Pelosi was in danger from DePape, why did Pelosi go back by DePape when the officers arrived at the door & why did Pelosi not lock himself in the bathroom when he called the police?

A network source told CNN it pulled the segment after the source of the report’s information was found to be unreliable.

“The decision was made to remove the segment after it was determined, shortly after it aired, that the main source for the information was unreliable regarding the question of the circumstances that the police encountered when they arrived at the house, specifically what the police saw and how far the attacker was from the door,” the source said.

In the wake of the attack, prominent right-wing media personalities have pushed a number of false conspiracy theories about the assault.

Here’s the thing: SFL was taken in by some disinformation that was amplified by his favorite sources. That could happen to anyone. Will he come back to this thread and admit he was misinformed? That’s the question.

    Hopefully this isn’t paywalled:

Since Twitter has fired most of the staff that was responsible for monitoring misinformation, I think the TOS for this site should ban Twitter links. At this point, I wouldn’t trust Twitter information.
