Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

"We can't do that to the country",

"A trial would tear the country apart",

"For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

Comey said at the time that they didn't find evidence of "evil intent" with Clinton.

I highly suspect that they have strong evidence of evil intent with Trump.

Most likely because Hillary cooperated "fully" with them, and more importantly, stuck to one plausible story about what happened, and didn't change to something completely different when someone tried to show why that story wasn't true.

Isn't his current lawyer some lady who basically operates out of a strip mall office? I don't know if that's literally true but looking at her resume and cases she has handled doesn't exactly scream competence.

He seems to have a few - they're all fairly young women. I think Alina Habba is the main one right now. She's 36, runs a 5-person firm, and clerked for a county judge in New Jersey.

She goes on the news a lot - which you typically wouldn't see quality counsel do, but she's clearly way over her head. She may be able to handle a sound bite and that's probably why Trump hires these kinds of people to be his "lawyers".

I would be utterly shocked if she was able to give Trump quality counsel to navigate the issues he's facing right now. And I think experienced trial lawyers at DOJ, the NY AG, and the Georgia AG would destroy her. She's not even capable of realizing how under-prepared she really is.

So you're saying she works at the prestigious law firm of Dunning Kruger?

I suppose - but I can't blame her for taking the gig, she clearly has confidence.

I just hope she has the judgment to avoid getting disbarred or committing a crime, because those are basically the stakes when you take Trump as your client (along with maybe not being paid).

    Though she probably doesn't:

It was a managed services company that deleted the emails after the subpoena. It's been awhile, but my memory is there was one phone call from a HRC staffer to the hosting company after the subpoena, and the emails were then deleted. If you are the FBI, you would need someone at the hosting company, and then the HRC staffer to both flip.

That's by far not the biggest scandal involving a private email server. Republicans have been using private email servers going back to gwb43.com. That was a huge scandal with millions of emails lost.

On of the biggest gripes I have with conservatives is the inconsistent application of their own supposed superior morality. It's not the FBI inconsistently applying the law.

I'm personally down to have a wide ranging, and deep dive discussion about the Presidential Records Act, but I warn conservatives now that "their side" has violated this a lot in the last 20 years.

I think it's fair to critique the use of private email servers, but you can't only apply this to Democrats.

In the last week the excuses have gone from:

I didnt take anything. Witch hunt.
I had stuff but I gave it back. Witch hunt.
They found stuff but there wasn't anything classified there. Witch hunt.
They found classified docs but they were carried in by the FBI agents in their backpacks and planted. Witch hunt.
THOSE ARE MY STOLEN CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS GIVE THEM BACK!!!!!

And yet there are those right here in this thread and around the country STILL supporting him at all costs.

Some of these documents, why in the world would anyone take them??? There is no good reason for a former president to have these docs in his home. None. He must have a reason, and none of the reasons are good.

Relief of debt or other financial deals in trade for secrets??? The mind wanders.
