Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

"We can't do that to the country",

"A trial would tear the country apart",

"For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

This would really be valuable information. Imagine if he could tell any dictator around the world who the US intelligent souces were?

That tweet is misleading. It says that "lists of covert agents and informants" were in the items, but the article they link to refers to "documents with the potential to reveal U.S. intelligence sources, including human sources on the American government payroll."

So, it doesn't sound like it was actually lists, but rather documents that somone could use to to figure out some of our assets out there.

Does it sound like something he would say? Has he backed off the accusations? There’s your answer.
    Trump 2020: An Election Odyssey

D.J.T. 9000: "Look Merrick, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over. I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you."

Merrick: You can help by remaining silent and refrain from lying

    D.J.T. 9000: "I'm afraid I can't do that Merrick"

Trump says attorney-client privilege and executive privilege so give it back.

That’s not how it works, and saying it’s executive privilege pretty much admits that it’s presidential records act material that he shouldn’t have had.

(what a totally random time for him to be bringing this up)

Sen. Rand Paul called for the repeal of the Espionage Act after it was revealed that the Justice Department is investigating if former President Donald Trump potentially violated the Act.

"The Espionage Act was abused from the beginning to jail dissenters of WWI," tweeted Paul. "It is long past time to repeal this egregious affront to the 1st Amendment."

A key facet of the act — Section 793 — is concerned with "gathering, transmitting or losing defense information," which relates to any document relating to national defense that "through gross negligence" was "illegally removed from its proper place of custody ... to be lost, stolen, abstracted, or destroyed."

If there are no laws against espionage, then you can’t commit espionage. Brilliant!

They wouldn’t be in jail though. They would be at the jail. If Trump leaves his cell they would have to accompany him. They aren’t putting Trump anywhere but at one of the “country club” jails anyway. What you say may very well be true, but where did you read it?
I did not read it. I asked a coworker who is a retired military officer. All former POTUS have 24/7 secret service protection around the clock. Once again it will have to be house arrest. They will not put an armed SSA in jail

I'd be ok building a prison just for him. No TV, no internet, and no other prisoners.

George Conway, a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, said he believes that the Justice Department's investigation of top-secret documents kept at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence could land him in jail.

Speaking to CNN's Jim Acosta on Saturday, Conway said he thought the probe — which involved the FBI searching Trump's Florida home last Monday for classified documents — carried a high likelihood of the former president being prosecuted for his actions.

"I think the shortest distance between Donald Trump and an orange jumpsuit is this investigation with the documents," Conway said.

"We haven't heard anything remotely approaching a rational, logical defense," Conway added............

Former President Donald Trump seems to believe that running for president again might allow him to wriggle out of possible criminal charges, but one national security expert argued that only makes him more likely to be indicted.

The twice-impeached former president appears likely to announce a third White House campaign, and he reportedly thinks that might help him escape criminal charges for the Jan. 6 insurrection and other efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, but conservative Paul Rosenzweig argued in a column for The Bulwark that running for office puts more pressure on the Department of Justice to prosecute him.

"In many ways Trump is an idiot savant," wrote Rosenzweig, a former deputy assistant secretary for policy in the Department of Homeland Security. "Despite his manifest flaws he has shown an uncommonly effective ability to define a political movement and capture its energy to his own political benefit. His continuing control of Republican primaries is evidence of his ongoing influence over American politics."

"But even idiot savants make mistakes," he added.

Richard Nixon was pardoned by his predecessor Gerald Ford on the assumption he would leave politics for good, and Bill Clinton also evaded prosecution by agreeing to step back from public life, but Trump instead has remained the unquestioned leader of the Republican Party and its frontrunner for the 2024 nomination.

"If Trump had chosen to retire to Mar-a-Lago and play golf or even if he had retreated to his resort and continued to exercise influence over the Republican party but chosen not to run again for office," Rosenzweig wrote, "I suspect that Attorney General Merrick Garland would have welcomed the excuse to forgo a prosecution of Trump."..........

I’m not sure the DOJ would/should overlook Trump’s theft of classified documents, even if he promises he will stay out of politics. First of all, his word is garbage. Second, this is far more serious than what Nixon or Clinton did.
