This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

So far, Dr. Oz has resisted Trump’s efforts to get him to just declare that he is the winner and that if he doesn’t end up the winner it’s proof of fraud. Of course, Trump is declaring that himself, lol.

    Of course.

Just how far will Republicans go to thwart the will of the people?

South Dakota is one of only 12 states where, a dozen years after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Republicans are still blocking the expansion of Medicaid.

But Medicaid expansion is popular among South Dakotans, who are on the cusp of approving it this year by a ballot initiative, the same tool used to overcome Republican lawmakers’ obstruction in six other states.

So Republicans in the South Dakota legislature came up with a novel solution: They are moving to enshrine minority rule in the state constitution.

Worse, they are attempting to force through their constitutional amendment imposing minority rule by holding the vote on a day when only hardcore Republican voters are expected at the polls.

South Dakota’s GOP-controlled legislature put its Medicaid-expansion-killing amendment on the ballot for June 7, the state’s primary Election Day.

Because almost all the contested primaries next week are on the Republican side, this essentially stacks the vote so that Democrats and independent voters won’t cast ballots.

The main financial backer of this assault on democracy? The GOP megadonor Koch family’s Americans for Prosperity…….

So next Tuesday, a simple majority of (mostly) Republican primary voters will have the power to end majority rule in South Dakota, in perpetuity.

The Senate Democratic leader, Troy Heinert, called it “a systematic assault on the will of the people.”

Even some Republican opponents of Medicaid expansion balked at the sleight of hand; “in bad faith” and “unfair to most people who are following the laws” is how state senator Michael Diedrich described the primary-day vote……

Here is a Republican Senator (Ben Sasse) I would like to learn more about.
    Read the article.
He is not in Trump's camp.

Global superpower. Interesting term. What, exactly, does that mean? As for weirdos dividing the country? The country was divided long before the advent of Trump. He simply ripped the bandage off that was hiding the infected wound.

These folks know that in order to truly rid the R party of Trumpism, we have to vote for democrats.

I've followed Sasse for a while. He's a good guy even though I don't agree with all of his positions. That said, he would get about 2% of the vote in the 2024 GOP Primary in the era of Trump. What's funny is, in a world where Trump never tainted the GOP, Sasse would be a leading candidate.

I actually do not think that Trump tainted the GOP. Those who supported him likely were either Republican voters already or, even more likely, were non-voters who bitched about the things that Trump made socially acceptable. For too long the Republican Party espoused agitprop that can only be described as near meaningless. Limited government means what, exactly? The financial crash which has long history of development had, as a center-piece, deregulation ie limited government. Limited government is a buzzword, noise, which has no meaning especially in light of a massively interconnected world of transnational corporations that end up deciding what laws, regulations and rules are passed and how they can either be dealt with with minimal negative impact or avoided altogether.

But beyond that we are seeing the unraveling in real time of American theomythology including exceptionalism.

Fair enough. By 'tainted' I mean he took what was fomented in the background to the mainstream ideology of the GOP. It can no longer even pretend to be a party of ideas. There is no going back. The old guard had their chance and could have voted to convict him in the Senate. Just a dozen votes was all they needed and they had it... but in the end they were too afraid of the political fallout. And now Trump has consumed them.

Yep, they had more than one opportunity to do so.

Agreed. They sold their alleged souls. They knew what Trump did and they flat out didn’t care.

Just in case some people aren’t clear what the agenda is:

I never heard of Christian Fascists or Christians wanting to take away rights.
Usually it is the rights of Christians that are suppressed. Let's use madaboutpolitics as an example.
I would venture a guess that if I was trying to make a point on here and I quoted something Confucius said I bet the moderators on here would let it go.
If I was trying to make a point in a back and forth debate on here and I quoted Mahatma Gandhi to back up my claim, the moderators would likely leave it up.
Yet if I were go into the Bible and quote Jesus......wow! A bunch of you would flag my post and it would be removed. Confucius and Gandhi are ok but Jesus is not.
Probably you never thought of it that way before.
I just thought it might be useful for me to point that out.

@DaveXA ...I've come back to my post to point out that above and below here I've included examples.
My other favorite sites are the same.
I could not quote Bible verses on wdwmagic.com or Tripadvisor.com
Thread posters are free to find fringe group and call them fascists.
Maybe someone in the legal dept. will get nervous and take it down...but only "maybe"... and only because I pointed it out.
Let's face it...Anything said about Islam would IMMEDIATELY be taken down here.
Imagine if someone posted about "Islamic Fascists" on here?
I don't think that would be left up...it would be removed.
That's just the way it is.
I've spoken in clear English and I have no desire to engage on this topic anymore.
I'm sure people will quote me and have their say.
Yet, I've had my say. I will not post on this topic again.

I don't really see that at all. Examples?
