This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Possibly to them it is just not worth the aggravation. THEY (different than some of you) possibly feel like I do....that Trump is not a threat. He's not gonna win the nomination. As I said, the silent majority do not want him. Those on here who are obsessing about him are wasting their time. Wasting my time too. He's not gonna win anything. I don't have to let the Trump obsessors waste my time. I have a choice. I can not log in. That's what I'll do.
Sometimes posting on here is just aggravation.
I'm not gutless...BUT I AM bored of seeing the same stuff again and again.
In the upcoming months it will be one Republican after another after another stepping forward and saying: "I'm my own person...and for me, former President Trump is NOT the guy I want to associate my political career with".
It WILL happen. You can all sleep well at night.
The mature ones on here will say: "Steve, I have to hand it to you, you were correct all along".

I think I DO have a clue what I am talking about.
Why would the MAJORITY of Republican voters want to vote for this guy?

The majority of Republican voters are not paying attention like we are. IF Trump was a candidate in an actual upcoming election, TV commercials would be run with clips of him saying complimentary things about Putin. At that hypothetical future time...Trump would be done ....a loser.

Donald Trump is who he's always been. His presidency was what many people feared it would be (and frankly exactly what many others hoped it would be)

    My question is this:

Why was what you say above NOT the case in 2016 primaries?

Why was what you say above NOT the case in 2020 when 12 Million MORE people voted for him?

Why was what you say above NOT the case post January 6th? Vote to impeach and the GOP would never have to worry about candidate Trump again

And if you do have reasonable and valid answers to these questions, why are you so certain that what you say above is the case NOW?

do you know this place, surprised or sounds about right?
Sounds about right. Apparently they are not a very good employer -- numerous stories from former employees who said they were treated like shirt. Plus ther took the PPP money (and I believe even had the loans forgiven, so free government cash) yet didn't use any of it for employees or for price reductions.
Ate there a couple times years ago, as I heard it was very good. Got a steak once, it was meh (which IMO is hard to do for a steak for goodness sake) and way overpriced. Haven't eaten there in years, but that was because I didn't think the food was that good.

In the midst of "historical inflation rates" Texas Republican Gov Abbot choses to engage in stupid partisan games which will lead to more supply chain issues. Mind you, there are already processes in place to address the issues he claims he is fixing.

He has directly contributed to hundreds of millions dollars of lost goods and the cost to US consumers will be surely felt in the coming weeks. Just another example of the stupid policies being implemented in an effort to score political points.

    About the Ohio Senate race
    ======================
Politicians say a lot of fantastical things in their campaign ads, but we now have an early front-runner for the most ridiculous claim of 2022.

And it shows that whatever voters think they’re going to get from the next Congress, they’re probably wrong.

It comes to us from the Republican primary for Senate in Ohio, which until last week was a contest of which Trump lickspittle would abase themselves in a sufficiently humiliating fashion to win the former president’s endorsement.

That competition was won by author J.D. Vance, whose reinvention as a Trumpist culture warrior — complete with an embrace of the “great replacement theory” that Democrats are importing non-White foreigners to destroy the country — was apparently enough to win Trump over.

Which must have been crushingly disappointing to Josh Mandel, who no doubt thought he was doing all the right things. He posted a video of himself burning a surgical mask, playacted as a tough guy and presented himself as “pro-God, pro-gun, pro-Trump.”

Without Trump’s endorsement, Mandel had to find a different tack.

How about inflation, an issue clearly on voters’ minds? And why not have his ally Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) make the pitch?
Cruz and Mandel are kindred spirits, people whose burning ambition carries them up the political ladder despite their intense anti-charisma.

Cruz and Mandel evoke a powerful repugnance; watch them and you’ll promptly find yourself saying, “I despise that guy and I barely know anything about him.”

So here’s the ad they created:

True to form, the very first thing out of Cruz’s mouth is an absurd falsehood: “Want to stop Biden’s inflation? Send someone who’s done it before.”

Wait — Mandel has stopped inflation before? Of course not. But Cruz does say that Mandel increased transparency when he was state treasurer, which is perfectly fine but doesn’t have anything to do with inflation.

Cruz then closes with a repeat of the claim: “End Biden’s inflation? Send Josh Mandel to Washington.”

Of all the over-the-top claims we’ve seen in campaign ads so far this year, this might be the most preposterous. Are we supposed to believe a single freshman senator is going to “end” inflation in America?

Is one backbench senator going to repair global supply chains, accelerate production of computer chips, reduce demand for consumer goods, increase the supply of construction materials and bring down international shipping costs?

And if one senator is capable of all that, how come Cruz himself hasn’t done it, with all the majestic powers of his office? Is he just waiting for Mandel to get elected so he can take care of it?…….

...Is one backbench senator going to repair global supply chains, accelerate production of computer chips, reduce demand for consumer goods, increase the supply of construction materials and bring down international shipping costs?
They know their audience and they know that they will believe anything that they say. I'm willing to bet that well over 80% of Republican voters know that Biden and the radical left is solely responsible all of the above.

I am unsurprised at any of the lunacy. People want inflation stopped? Well, there are two things that can be done:

    1) Crash the economy. Raise interest rates sky-high like Volcker did. Of course, this merely kick-started the fear side of the greed fear response.

    Or

    2) Impose price freezes. Which will never happen.

The first strikes at the fear side of greed/fear but there is little that can be done on the greed side.

Somethings must be noted. The political economy has contained within it various unstable structures. Things like diminishing profit and tendency toward monopoly/oligopoly tend to cause upheaval. Competition is NOT something that is wanted by wealth. Elimination of competition is sought. Agitprop is utilized by power holders.

Sigh. This whole thing has become depressing.

Will this backfire on DeSantis and Republicans? It seems he gets everything he wants in Florida with no push back or opposition. I'd hate to see what he would do to silence the free speech of opponents with the tools of the Federal government in hand. Can't believe all those people crying about censorship of big tech aren't focusing on and fearful this actual censorship by a state government. Wait, no I'm not...

(CNN)Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis escalated his weeks-long feud with Disney on Tuesday, challenging lawmakers to eliminate the special status that allows the entertainment company to operate as an independent government around its Orlando-area theme park.

In a bombshell announcement dropped just hours before lawmakers returned to Tallahassee for a special session to finalize new congressional maps, DeSantis changed the agenda for the week to also include a review of "independent special districts that were established prior to November 5, 1968." That would include the Reedy Creek Improvement Act, passed by the Legislature in 1967 to help establish Walt Disney World.

A bill filed by a Republican lawmaker soon after DeSantis' announcement would dissolve Disney's special district on June 1, 2023.

DeSantis also wants lawmakers to eliminate a carve-out for Disney in a state law that allows people to sue Big Tech companies for censorship. A federal judge has blocked the law but Florida is appealing the ruling.
