Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

    Trans women:

These people pose no threat to anyone. Just let them live their lives.

Which gets to the reason why I asked the questions I did. If you believe that trans women are just mentally ill men dressing up as women, like @Farb does, then it makes since to believe that inclusion of trans women in female sports is an attack on "real women". Just like if you believe that homosexuality is intrinsically evil then you're likely to see LGBTQ inclusion or discussions at schools as inherently dangerous to children's welfare. And your likely to see diversity and inclusion in general as some devious, evil plan being propagated on everybody. It all fits.

That's a problem for me, that people are replying to me as if I was Farb. I am not Farb. I don't think trans people are mentally ill, nor do I think including trans women on female sports is an attack on "real women" ( I guess "real women" depends on the definition one gives it).

I do, however, think it highly unfair for the female of our species, even more so when one considers what the female of our species has endured and continues to endure in all global cultures and societies, as it is that very physical/biological nature that has lead to their treatment.

Have you ever seen me argue against trans men playing in men's sports? In that instance, the disparity mostly works against the trans person. I think one could even make the case that a trans division in sports will be more fair to trans men.

You seem to be in the middle some where. Maybe what I'd classify as the old liberal, anti-woke group. What I like to call the Bill Marah club, although I have no clue what his thoughts are on transgender female athletes, lol. But I don't really know. Personally, for me, the whole "woke" hysteria has lost all meaning and doesn't move the needle for me at all. I mean, when DJT calls Mo Brooks "woke", you know the word is meaningless.

I am not really in the middle. I do, however, have a strong opinion about one specific aspect within a very large topic. However, it seems that one strong opinion about one specific aspect within a very large topic has landed me on the transphobic and bigot side. So be it.

Well, count me as having been under the wrong assumption that you basically had the same view as Farb. I apologize for the error.

I guess I’m willing to let the sports authorities work it out. I do think the laws that are being passed in the states are horrible laws which target trans children and will make their lives even more difficult than they already are.

And putting up the 6th best time in an NCAA swimming event is "ordinary" or "average" or of "medium quality."

There are ~3,800 men in Div I NCAA programs, and ~11,000 in all divisions... and having the 6th best time of all of them is "ordinary" or "of a middle quality."

You're complaining about being compared to Farb (which BTW I have not done nor will I) yet making your stand on this particular hill? :idunno:

    After your edit...
I'll even call Thomas a very good swimmer, even though within the context of NCAA competition, Thomas is nothing extraordinary
So now it's not "within the context of NCAA competition" (your words *and* your emphasis) but compared to one of the best swimmers *ever*.

Deliberately deadnaming and moving the goalposts, yet complaining about being compared to Farb. :9:

LOL. Was not making a point about height, only about the #2 and #3 winner should be #1, talking about living their life to the fullest.

Funny though you bring up the biological difference of the athletes in the photo. LOL
The person you got the photo from was making a point about height.

It's why they cropped the photo.

There’s no other reason to show that photo other than to point out the size difference which isn’t even as much as this photo implies

    Educate yourselves.

Do trans girls and trans women have unfair advantages over other girls and women? It depends.

Anyone who claims to know the one true answer to that question without asking a series of follow-ups is simply lying. Allow me to explain…

    • Which sport(s) are we talking about?
    • Did the trans athlete undergo a testosterone-driven puberty?
    • How long has this hypothetical athlete been on hormone replacement therapy?
Because if you’re talking about a 6’10” trans woman who went through a regular testosterone-driven puberty and has been on hormones for 6 months, we can probably all agree that this hypothetical person would have what many would consider an unfair advantage in sports like basketball or volleyball.

But does that same hypothetical athlete have an unfair advantage in gymnastics? Maybe not. That’s why the question of “which sport” matters. Similarly, trans girls who never went through a testosterone-driven puberty (something many states are trying to force them to go through, causing the type of unfair advantage in athletics those same activists and lawmakers claim to care so much about) don’t have any inherent advantage at all in any sport.

Let’s be clear about something: there is absolutely no reason at all to ban trans girls from playing on girls’ teams (and trans boys playing on boys’ teams) in grade school.

No possible reason other than to signal that these kids are “other” and should be treated as such by their classmates, that is. God forbid that other students and teachers just accept trans kids for who they are! *gasp* The people pushing for bans on trans kids in sports aren’t people who otherwise support trans kids (or trans adults, for that matter). No, no. Hardly. The people pushing for bans on trans kids in sports would very much like for everyone to delegitimize trans identities, entirely.

Look @Farb, Putin agrees with you.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been criticized before for twisting history to suit his narrative, claimed Friday that the West was trying to cancel Russia, comparing this to Nazi book burnings. He even roped in the name of “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling as an example to support his cause.

“Not so long ago, they canceled children’s author Joan Rowling whose books were spread all over the world in the hundreds of millions of copies, because she did not please fans of so-called gender freedoms,” Putin said, speaking by video at a ceremony to award Russian literature and culture prizes."

And? The creator of gender theory was John Money, does that mean everyone who agrees with you are pro-pedophilia?

I said: "Why? Well, we're trying to allow trans people to live as full a life as possible. That doesn't mean we won't run into difficulties along the way but we'll work through those."

    Note the last sentence.
Do you think that Emma Weyant will get another shot at a national champion? Why do we have to work through something so absurd?

And? The creator of gender theory was John Money, does that mean everyone who agrees with you are pro-pedophilia?

I thought Money was one of your heros being that he was a big fan of conversion therapy.

Chemical castration? You know that there is no hormone therapy for anyone under the age of 18 in this country. So your remark about what I support is a straight up lie. I would’t even dignify this smear, but it is a new low, even for you.

Yes, I call elementary schoolchildren “children”. They are the ones being targeted by your side with these laws. There aren’t any laws concerning NCAA or Olympic competitions, that I’m aware of. They are all targeting school children. That’s what you are supporting.

Do you feel that people are promised the right to win? In life or anywhere?
Not sure it is a 'lie': https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/...ion-medical-risks-are-both-known-and-unknown/

The Endocrine Society’s guidelines suggest starting puberty blockers for transgender children when they hit a stage of development known as Tanner stage 2 — usually around 10 or 11 years old for a girl and 11 or 12 years old for a boy. The same guidelines suggest giving cross sex hormones — estrogen for transgender girls and testosterone for transgender boys — at age 16. However, doctors caution that estrogen and testosterone, the hormones that are blocked by these medications, also play a role in a child’s neurological development and bone growth.

You think 'my side' is targeting trans people. I am fine with that. In reality, I am standing up for kids and women that cant say anything publicly because of the exact same thing that is happening on this thread. They would be beat down with accusations, name calling and personal attacks.

Don't want to be labeled transphobic, don't deadname people. It's a dick move.

Who said they were a threat? I can't imagine anyone being threatened by a trans person.

Yes, I can easily tell which one is male and female. All but 2 honestly. Do they have a procedure to remove an adams apple? If not, 1 has be photoshoped.
