I was looking for a place to put this so we could discuss but didn't really find a place that worked so I created this thread so we can all place articles, experiences, videos and examples of racism in the USA.

This is one that happened this week. The lady even called and filed a complaint on the officer. This officer also chose to wear the body cam (apparently, LA doesn't require this yet). This exchange wasn't necessarily racist IMO until she started with the "mexican racist...you will never be white, like you want" garbage. That is when it turned racist IMO

All the murderer and other insults, I think are just a by product of CRT and ACAB rhetoric that is very common on the radical left and sadly is being brought to mainstream in this country.

Another point that I think is worth mentioning is she is a teacher and the sense of entitlement she feels is mind blowing.

I bet these companies posted black squares on their facebook page last year and congratulated themselves for their commitment to social justice
    ====================================================

............She was told she didn’t qualify because she was a contractor, not a full-time employee — even though her boss told the lender she was not at risk of losing her job. Her co-workers were contractors, too, and they had mortgages.

Crystal Marie’s co-workers are white. She and Eskias are Black.

“I think it would be really naive for someone like myself to not consider that race played a role in the process,” she said.

An investigation by The Markup has found that lenders in 2019 were more likely to deny home loans to people of color than to white people with similar financial characteristics — even when we controlled for newly available financial factors the mortgage industry for years has said would explain racial disparities in lending.

Holding 17 different factors steady in a complex statistical analysis of more than 2 million conventional mortgage applications for home purchases, we found that lenders were 40% more likely to turn down Latino applicants for loans, 50% more likely to deny Asian/Pacific Islander applicants, and 70% more likely to deny Native American applicants than similar white applicants. Lenders were 80% more likely to reject Black applicants than similar white applicants. These are national rates.

In every case, the prospective borrowers of color looked almost exactly the same on paper as the white applicants, except for their race.

The industry had criticized previous similar analyses for not including financial factors they said would explain disparities in lending rates but were not public at the time: debts as a percentage of income, how much of the property’s assessed worth the person is asking to borrow, and the applicant’s credit score.

The first two are now public in the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data. Including these financial data points in our analysis not only failed to eliminate racial disparities in loan denials, it highlighted new, devastating ones.

We found that lenders gave fewer loans to Black applicants than white applicants even when their incomes were high — $100,000 a year or more — and had the same debt ratios. In fact, high-earning Black applicants with less debt were rejected more often than high-earning white applicants who have more debt.

“Lenders used to tell us, ‘It’s because you don’t have the lending profiles; the ethno-racial differences would go away if you had them,’” said José Loya, assistant professor of urban planning at UCLA who has studied public mortgage data extensively and reviewed our methodology. “Your work shows that’s not true.”...........

I more than 40 years ago my mortgage application was ignored and not considered. The realtor told me that in the area there was a high rate of loan default among people with Hispanic surnames so I got stereotyped. They never even looked at the application, they just set it aside. I know how it feels. I learned my lesson from that experience.

    Guess I'll put this here

This article is specifically about Muslim Americans but speaks to a larger issue

Many of these people had been accepted (or as some here would say they 'assimilated' in to American culture), they came from a 'good' family with a 'good' home life, lived in a nice home in a nice neighborhood, went to a good school, got a good job and lived a good life

(And many also were born here and didn't need to 'assimilate' into American culture - they were American culture)

They were shielded from the worst and most blatant examples of racism and from the outside looking in would say that they were fully accepted, many from the inside would have agreed

Then Sept 11th happens and the rug of acceptance was yanked from beneath their feet

The acceptance they thought they had and thought was secure was really hanging by a thread

Muslim doctors who'd treated people for years were getting yelled at by those same patients
People stopped going to stores with Muslim owners, the stores would get vandalized and many more examples

And there's really only two possibilities

    1. They were accepted. But 9/11 changed how they were viewed, and that view changed immediately

    2. They were never really accepted. they were 'allowed' to be American. They were treated as well as polite society expected, but once there was a plausible reason to publicly pull that acceptance and say what they always really thought, they did so

And it's not just Muslims and 9-11

    It's Covid and Asians

It's the prejudice that Trump made people feel comfortable expressing

You can do everything the 'right' way. For some you can add not being a 'complain about racism' minority

But as soon as some event happens you find out exactly how much of an 'other' some people really think you are, and always did

NEW YORK (AP) — A car passed, the driver’s window rolled down and the man spat an epithet at two little girls wearing their hijabs: “Terrorist!”

It was 2001, mere weeks after the twin towers at the World Trade Center fell, and 10-year-old Shahana Hanif and her younger sister were walking to the local mosque from their Brooklyn home.

    Unsure, afraid, the girls ran.

As the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks approaches, Hanif can still recall the shock of the moment, her confusion over how anyone could look at her, a child, and see a threat.

“It’s not a nice, kind word. It means violence, it means dangerous. It is meant to shock whoever ... is on the receiving end of it,” she says.

But the incident also spurred a determination to speak out for herself and others that has helped get her to where she is today: a community organizer strongly favored to win a seat on the New York City Council in the upcoming municipal election.

Like Hanif, other young American Muslims have grown up under the shadow of 9/11. Many have faced hostility and surveillance, mistrust and suspicion, questions about their Muslim faith and doubts over their Americanness.......

So a white lady in a monkey mask throws eggs at a black politician? Racist or no?

It seems the racist left doesn't know how to handle a black guy that has a different political opinion that is running for office.
    She's a racist.

Larry Elder is an Uncle Tom.

All black people aren't expected to think alike. There is honest disagreement, then there's self-hate. Elder, who believes reperations should be paid to families that had their slaves “taken from them” after the Civil War, crossed over to self hate a long time ago.

I mean, all Latin Americans don’t have to agree either. However, if someone changes their sons surname to something not Hispanic and brags about their children marrying white people they have also crossed the self hate line.

While those words in no particular order fell out of his mouth, if you read or listen to the actual discussion he said an argument could be made and he would be correct. An argument could be made for reimbursement. They were actually discussing the fact that the Brits reimbursed their slaveowners for loss of property. So, maybe self hate is in they eye beholder

I watched the entire interview. They were actually talking about reparations for black people and Elder started talking about how the British compensated slave owners and so you don’t want to open that can of worms (his words).

I enjoy watching that kind of self loathing. Self hate is definitely in the eye of the beholder, and I beheld it.

Right so he didn't say he supported that. Glad we agree.

Thanks for the low blow STB!
I changed my son's name after a Polish American told me that was a possible solution to surname discrimination.
My daughters were born in the USA and they integrated, so be it. My son also integrated. I did not have to coach them to do that.

Stingers with malicious intent are not cool STB.

BTW, I actually think descendants of slaves are owed additional reparations. Affirmative Action is often used by non-descendants of slaves (highly educated Africans, white women, and Hispanics). Thank God they do not give AA to Asians anymore.

Perhaps you should have just decided to not let it bother you. I hear that's a good way to make discrimination and racism go away.

I like stingers. Aren't you the guy who took a shot at a man's wife just a couple of pages back? Physician heal thine self. I find your takes on what you call assimilation the absolute epidemy of self-loathing, but you do you. I'm not trying to be malicious, this is pity you're sensing. I feel sorry for people who run from their identities and are so swollen with ethnic envy that they go the passe blanc route.

I don't think anyone is due any additional reparations. It would be almost impossible to even properly determine who is entitled to them and who isn't. Like most subjects, I suspect you actually don't have a very good idea of how Affirmative Action works.
