I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

I don't think Joe Biden should involve himself in this at all prior to inauguration. Let the existing players/congress hash this out.
As far as Joe is concerned, he probably doesn't want impeachment especially if it will tie up the Senate when they should be busy confirming his appointees. This calls for some good old fashioned 3 martini lunch deal-making between Joe, Nancy, and Mitch/Chuck. "Sign off on my cabinet and ol' Joe will call off the dogs"

Ok, here's his actual statement and it's not as bad as it was presented by the media, still it is rich coming from McCarthy.

McCarthy is an archetype of the Republican leader who needs the boot. He calls for unity and laments division after he has done everything he could to increase division: supporting Trump's unPresidential behavior from day one, letting all the lies flow unchallenged for four years, supporting the election fraud fraud, and signing on to that ridiculous Texas law suit. Even after the mob insurrection, he continued to oppose certification. I rarely condemn politicians as people, but this goes well beyond politics to character. McCarthy is a tyranny-enabling, lying, mealy-mouthed, two-faced, ruthlessly opportunistic, unethical, anti-rule of law piece of shirt. Right up there with Hawley, Cruz, Graham and a few others.

Thank you, Bakersfield, for supplying such high quality Congressional material. Job well done.

Indeed, I'd rather see them spend political capital on getting appointees, judges and others confirmed, and deal with the Covid epidemic including stimulus and assistance for those who need it the most and maybe an infrastructure package. The prosecutions and legal stuff can be litigated in the courts and let the 3 letter agencies handle all that.

They are responsible for creating the monster.

This is like the villagers letting dr frankenstein keep the monster.

Need to kill the monster. Make it where he can never do anything political again.

Here is the only deal I'd offer...
Have every Republican Congressman and Senator give statements to the validity of the 2020 election followed by a condemnation of Trump. Vote for Biden's cabinet. Remove the treasonous 8 Senators.

why is it always the Dems that have to be the adults and compromise for the good of the nation?

Republicans don’t ever have to do shirt For the good of the country. Did they deny Merrick Garland for the good of the country? Did they rush through Barrett for the good of the country? No, they didn’t.

McCarthy knows damn well what a vote means. It means you either side with a seditious liar who started the only domestic attack on our Capitol or you piss off his idiot followers.

Impeach his arse if for no other reason than to get these butt crevasses on record with what they stand for.
Because democrats believe in government, republicans don't. When they are the ones that will just break government, you have to be the adult in the room.

I can't find who said this, but someone said Biden should call McConnell and work out a deal about his picks.

not sure if he did that, but...

The Senate has yet to take action on any of Biden's picks for his Cabinet, and the president-elect is poised to take office Jan. 20 without a single agency leader confirmed to their role. Democrats have pressed for holding hearings before the inauguration. At least one hearing, for Defense pick retired Gen. Lloyd Austin, is set for Jan. 19.

"It's my expectation and hope that the Senate will now move to confirm these nominees promptly and fairly," Biden said in Wilmington, Del., at an event unveiling his picks for Commerce and Labor secretary and the head of the Small Business Administration.

"That is especially the case for the nominees of secretary of State, Defense, Treasury and Homeland Security. I nominated them back in November," he continued. "Given what our country has been through the last four years — the last few days — given the threats and the risks in this world, they should be confirmed as close to Jan. 20 as possible. There should be no vacancies at State, Defense, Treasury and Homeland Security. We have no time to lose with regard to the entire team."

Don't remember if this was covered, but Boris Johnson came out pretty strong against Trump on this. He was criticized earlier for only coming out against what was going on, but not discussing the President.

Perhaps stung by the criticism, Johnson finally went further at his Downing Street late afternoon press conference when directly confronted about the issue. He said: “In so far as he encouraged people to storm the Capitol and in so far as the president has consistently cast doubt on the free and fair election, I think that what the president has been saying on that is completely wrong. I unreservedly condemn encouraging people to behave in the disgraceful way as they did in the Capitol.”

Until then the clearest denunciation had come from the former foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt, who said: “America is the world’s biggest, most important democracy, a shining light on the hill for freedom. President Trump told a crowd to march on Capitol Hill & turned on his vice-president for upholding the law. He shames American democracy tonight & causes its friends anguish but he is not America.”

    Charges are coming out...

Prosecutors also revealed the name of a man they said had brought multiple weapons to the protest. Kohl said that police searched a truck belonging to an Alabama man named Lonnie Coffman and found two handguns, an M4 carbine assault rifle and 11 Molotov cocktails that included "styrofoam material that essentially constitute homemade napalm."

Kohl said that the Justice Department is still in the early stages of its investigation and is committed to a thorough review to find out who else could be charged for their role in the riot.

"We literally have hundreds of prosecutors and agents working from three command centers on what is really a 24 seven operation," he said. "It is active, it is fluid, it's evolving."

The Justice Department is expected to release charging documents later on Friday.

Because democrats believe in government, republicans don't. When they are the ones that will just break government, you have to be the adult in the room.
Sure, except by that analogy it's incumbent on the adult in the room to show the children in the room that there are consequences for their actions. The consequences should be reasonable, and fair, but there must be consequences.

Avoiding them in the interests of a quiet life does not lead to a quiet life. It leads to chaos. See: the lack of consequences over and over again, and all the chaos.

Because democrats believe in government, republicans don't. When they are the ones that will just break government, you have to be the adult in the room.
Then this endless cycle continues. They have to be held accountable for perpetuating this lie of election fraud. Then they need to stop lying to the American people, all the time!!!

Now I'm not saying elected Dems are the bastions of truth, but they are not the ones demonizing an entire way of life and that's what the Republican party does to everyone that is not a Republican. They label every democratic candidate as the most socialist of the socialist, the most radical whatever, etc. How about some honesty, maybe being honest with the people will lower the temperature.

So, until Dems call them out and hold them accountable for their lies, R's will continue to do so.

Biden just said that Congress is going to do what Congress is going to do. So in other words, "fork off, Kevin."

    (At least that's my interpretation.)

YEP! ."dont ask me - ask Congress. Im not stepping in their way and im CERTAINLY not going to at YOUR request".

    Just for the record
