I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Alright so what do you think the next move is?

This I am sure is not over by a long shot.

    They did not go home.

All I hope is the people in security treat then at least as harshly as the peaceful protesters from earlier in the year.

The lack of contrition, and empathy is expected. I think at least half of the GOP in congress are psychopaths.

I hope it sets in after tonight there is no working with the GOP. I thought Biden was insane to even suggest it.

I was listening to the senators speak on the way home from work last night. Several republican senators raked Trump over the coals. Mitt Romney received a ovation for his.

Until January 20th, I expect more chaos...

Rumor is they had to threaten him with the 25th Amendment to get him to say even that.

He needs to be removed from office now, whatever way they can figure out.

It was pretty close to the actual question, shocking that so many Rs think breaking into the US Capitol is just fine.

Curiously, just over 20% of independent voters - and 20% of all voters - supported it as well.
And REALLY curiously - 56% thought that the election was swung by fraud :D

There’s no such thing as hyperbole after yesterday.
I think that is an exaggerated statement :p

Yeah, I think it’s pretty obvious to everyone that Trump thinks his powers as President are more expansive than they really are. He’s been pretty candid about his wishes to be an autocrat.

The word “literally” is being abused a bit, but Trump certainly wishes he were king, for sure.

"Pretty obvious to everyone..". As in... "pretty obvious to everyone who wants an excuse - ANY excuse - to criticise Donald Trump". If he was so candid, could you give me an example of where he wished to be an autocrat ?

Mind you, in his previous role as CEO of the Trump Empire, he didn't have as many restrictions on his actions as he does now, that is true.

    Literally ? Really ?
I don't THINK so, somehow. That sounds like vacuous hyperbole to me ?

He's a republican and disappointed by the election results. He still called Bidens victory as legitimate. Listen again. He's saying Congress should never overturn the will of the voters. It's pretty much the only thing I agree with him over the last 4 years

no, he believes he is king. He stated directly, that the constitution says he can do whatever he wants.
