There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

Broward getting the vote in early. Hope that means we aren't on the National news.... Early voting hasn't started, so only mail and two drop off locations are open now. Later, they'll have multiple drop off locations.

Dropped mine off Yesterday. Waiting for the SOE site to show that it's been received and counted.

Oh, and to put this into perspective, Broward county has 1.25 Million registered voters. So, almost half have requested mail in ballots.

Seems that about half of Democrats requested mail in ballots, and about a third of Republican voters, and a third of independents.

(I wonder if Trump is going to tweet about this wide-spread mail fraud?)

California Secretary of State Alex Padilla's office has received complains about what appear to be unauthorized ballot drop boxes in Los Angeles, Orange, and Fresno counties, and it appears from social media posts that California Republicans have set them up to collect ballots, The Orange County Register reported Sunday night. The metal boxes, which purport to be "official," have been reported at local political party offices, churches, and headquarters for GOP candidates.

Our ballots arrived Saturday, we filled them out last night, dropped them off this morning. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

    Yes, that's completely illegal.

    Florida uses this generic warning/info.
    "

    Returning a Vote-By-Mail Ballot
If a voter cannot mail or personally return his or her Vote-By-Mail ballot, someone else may return it.

If you decide to vote by mail using a Vote-By-Mail ballot, please consider the following:

*Do not allow anyone to assist you in voting unless it is a family member or trusted family friend.

*Do not allow anyone else to fill out your ballot and remember to sign the voter certificate after you seal the envelope.

*Do not give your ballot to a stranger - mail it yourself and make sure it is received by the elections office no later than 7:00 p.m. on Election Day or deliver it yourself.

    "

    I saw that this morning

I’m curious where these boxes where placed

If they are in heavily democratic/minority areas well, you’d have to question why the GOP would put them there

(We’d know the answer to that question, but it still needs to be asked out loud)

They’re putting them outside churches and gun stores among other places. They aren’t trying to make votes for Democrats to disappear, they’re trying to create situations where the legitimacy of the elections can be called into question. This type of stuff will only get worse until there are consequences.

It shouldn't have to be like this, but God bless anyone willing to stand in line that long to vote.

It isn't an accident or just bad planning. It's planned and purposeful. Republicans gleefully engage in voter suppression activities and their only purpose is to discourage as many people as possible from voting. Hearing that people had to stand in line for 5 hours to vote is music to their ears because that will typically only discourage other people from voting. That may not be the case this election, as people are really motivated to vote, but those images linger and effect future elections too when voters aren't as motivated.

And remember those big counties all vote blue, and is where the majority of the minorities live.

Which is expected tactics from the GOP but how are they being held up the the courts?

I know that the politicians can explain with a straight face and zero shame why this is the right and proper thing to do but the courts should smack this down, I'm surprised (maybe I shouldn't be) that this is being allowed to continue
