For anyone who doesnt think it’s ok to be mean to the president right now.. it actually IS ok to be mean, and i would argue that we are obligated to make fun of him right now.

Trump is fine, if he wasn't Pence would be the temp POTUS and they'd tell us.

I'll have to disagree on that one. Trump never wants to project weakness so the only point where the senior staff would feel compelled to let the public know is if he was unconscious/on a ventilator.

Also, you know, the evidence from the last 24 hours...Where the administration has repeatedly lied, deceived, and refused to be honest about the condition, events, and timeline of Trump’s diagnosis and progression.

Personally, it would give me pause to turn my default setting to “trust the WH to be honest and transparent.”

The president can have a significant Covid infection that requires treatment and hospitalization - and still be completely within his faculties as president. Power doesn't have to transfer unless the president is truly incapacitated (even temporarily, such as in the case of general anesthesia). Now if he's drugged up or something, that's a concern. But from what I have read, even moderate cases primarily come with symptoms that do not actually incapacitate the person nor call for drugs that do. Intubation, of course, is another matter, but that's not happening (not yet at least).

And what we know about Trump, he isn't going to agree to relinquish authority to Pence unless he really needs to. He's tweeting (presuming that's actually him), and he walked to the helicopter yesterday - he may not be "fine" but it's also really unlikely that he's incapacitated at this point.

Oddity of the phrasing aside, looks like the admin is shutting down public statements for the day to likely work on that incompatible narrative they have put out there.

On another hand it’s also pretty forked up if true to deny the public updates about the the president so they can craft the best optics.

I think what's really driving this is the timeline of whether Trump traveled and went to events while knowing he had a Covid infection. That would be really problematic - it's criminal behavior in many states.

Of course, there's documentation. He's got lab work. And they had to get approval to use the monoclonal antibodies.
