    The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

    Trump's African American has a change of heart
    ====================================
    The man once dubbed Donald Trump’s “African American” said he no longer aligns with the ideals of the conservative party or the man at the helm. Speaking to CNN, Gregory Cheadle documented his life since being given that peculiar title and explained why he may vote for Joe Biden on November 3.

    Four years after the 2016 campaign event where Trump shouted him out, Cheadle admits his political views have shifted. At the time he considered the recognition some deemed racist a “joke,” but told CNN, "Then the joke turned sour." He claims he lost friends, a romantic relationship and went into hiding...................

    Some rare (but pretty mild) GOP pushback
    =========================
    Senate Republicans on Thursday forcefully rejected President Donald Trump’s suggestion that the 2020 election results might not be accurately determined, but largely declined to address previous bipartisan conclusions that such rhetoric aids foreign adversaries.

    Trump, who has frequently made comments that undermine confidence in the electoral process and once suggested delaying the election, tweeted on Thursday morning that the “result may never be accurately determined, which is what some want.” ........

    “It’s just not accurate,” Senate Intelligence Committee Acting Chairman Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said when asked if Trump’s comment was inappropriate.

    “I don’t think we’ll have inaccurate election results,” Rubio added. “They may take a lot longer than they ever have because of the amount of mailed ballots that are going to come in and so forth. But I don’t have any concerns about the accuracy of the election.”...............

    Either these guys are stupendously dumb or they're mealymouthing to maintain deniability.

    the “result may never be accurately determined, which is what some want.” .

    The "some" is DJT himself and the 'never accurately determined' part is exactly what he's doing his level best to achieve.

    Do you not get it, Marco? Are you seriously that stupid? Here, let me introduce you. See that pudgy orange guy over there? That's Donald Trump. You may want to get to know something about him sometime because he's killing your constituents and trying to hopelessly FUBAR the election.

    This whole thing is pure PR. There are a few flat dumb things about it.

    First, what role does the Fed have in pushing and mandating this? All of those folks who were so insistent on "activist" politicians and "culture warriors" pushing Common Core or whatever else show that it was never about principle. It was just about partisanship. I don't know how this is going to be enforceable, unless they tie it to funding - and that will be a HUIGE mess. So I suspect it's for show and that's about it.

    People were so put off by the 1619 Project and this is supposed to be the answer to assuage their discomfort. Safe spaces, and all, you know. But there's nothing to it.

    Secondly, who's putting this together? The folks I saw associated didn't exactly read like a Who's Who of American History or have a ton of scholarship. If people are going to lose their minds over historians creating curriculum they don't like, that removes their sense of superiority and entitlement then shouldn't they also lose their minds about even less credible people pushing agendized history?

    Yes. But, once more, it's not about the principle of history - it's about the accommodation of the perturbed at the slightest hint of de-centricity.

    Finally, and I think most importantly, people that think this is important or needed have *absolutely no clue* what history education actually looks like in the classroom. It's still uber patriotic. There's a ton of jingoism and empty platitudes abound. Global and interstellar manifest destiny. Bringing freedom to the world. American Dream. Meritocracy. We've made a *few* strides. Some large, some small. But the core of the subject has been largely untouched.

    Yet another reason this strikes me as entirely optics. It's an unenforceable policy version of Trump hugging and caressing the flag that shows he loves America. It's symbolic, but there's nothing of substance behind it - in terms of intent or content.

    Dumb waste of time and resources designed to placate eponymous 'snowflakes' who need their place in American History restored, the place that taught them incomplete pictures and taught that all Americans are equal, but some are more equal than others.

    Not to mention, it essentially becomes a vehicle for statist propaganda.

    So today Trump announced an aid package for Puerto Rico for Hurricane Maria (it happened three years ago). After the hurricane, Trump had called San Juan's mayor "crazed" and that the island "only takes from the USA".

    During his remarks announcing the aid package, Trump said:

    And this. 😂

    He seems exhausted or depressed in that video. I've never seen him like that.

    what you see is a glimmer of what happens when he realizes what he is reading - its LOL time.

    Watch his facial expression and body just as he starts talking how bad Biden was for PR under previous admin and then reads "in 1996...."

    its comical. And HE KEEPS GOING lol

    I've seen Trump read before on numerous occasions. There was something noticeably different this time. Even when attacking Biden and praising himself with superlatives, he had noticeably less energy and animation than he normally does.
