The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

what I don't understand (or maybe I do and the answer is that simple) - Trump was given a *GIFT.* That sounds harsh to say, I know, in the midst of a viral pandemic. What I mean, is he was given a crisis without having to go to war on another continent. He wanted to be a wartime President, because he knows the inherent advantages of one when it comes to re-election, as a President who presided over a successful 'war'

I don't even think he had to *do* that much.

    • Be a decent human being.
    • Scrape up a modicum of empathy and let that lead. Embrace the science and let the science lead.
    • When crops were being destroyed and storehouses of potatoes were going to waste, tell the nation you're going to find a way to feed the hungry and out of work with a supply line, because that's what America does.
    • Wear a mask. Tell people to wear a mask.
    • Tell people that COVID testing and treatment won't cost a dime, so don't sweat employment-based insurance (which should, I've long believed, needs eliminating anyway). Don't show up to work, to get sick, because you need treatment for a sickness that makes you more vulnerable or if you contract it.
    • Be explicitly, rhetorically supportive of schools and not threaten them.
    • Acknowledge the disproportionate impact is has on Blacks
    • Support schools - don't threaten them
    • Provide actual support and compensation that will sustain families and allow for an actual shutdown instead of using it as an opportunity for more corporate grift
And these are things obvious to me, and I'm no politicians. I'm just some random dude. So there's probably a ton more.

He could have *walked* back into the White House - I firmly believe that. I don't think it would be close. Incumbent during a national crisis? I mean, I don't think the path gets paved much better than that.

Instead, he did, like, the direct opposite of each of these.

He's just... so heartless. And dumb.

I agree this shouldn’t have been that hard. I mean, it would have taken some hard work, some organization and compromise within government. Some negotiating skills. But if people see you genuinely trying your best they will pull together in a crisis. Similar to Gov. Cuomo, who made mistakes but was working hard in a terrible situation.

But, he’s incapable of doing those things, Ayo. You might as well ask a dog to compose music. He cannot do anything to benefit those who he feels are not his base, or that doesn’t benefit him in some way.

He’s not only stupid, he’s conceited and mean. He wont be able to do anything simply to benefit others. He’s literally been wrong about everything during the pandemic. And he hasn’t learned from his mistakes at all. Our numbers are shameful.

Oh it was a layup. All he had to do was wrap himself in the flag, remind us all of American exceptionalism, and how we always pull together during crisis- America was MADE for crisis! and go on his tours wearing a MAGA mask and visiting state capitols for photo-ops. That’s it.

He would have had walked to re-election and a mandate so scary, I shudder to think frankly.

I'm just now hearing about this.

"I'm in the country to go to school"

"Your school just switched to online classes for the pandemic, so you don't really need to be here anymore do you?"
    ===============================================================================

On Monday, the federal Student and Exchange Visitor Program announced, “The U.S. Department of State will not issue visas to students enrolled in schools and/or programs that are fully online for the fall semester nor will U.S. Customs and Border Protection permit these students to enter the United States."

“Active students currently in the United States enrolled in such programs must depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction to remain in lawful status,” the announcement said. “If not, they may face immigration consequences including, but not limited to, the initiation of removal proceedings. ”

A spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not immediately respond Monday to messages seeking comment.

An outpouring of questions and concerns followed the announcement, with one expert describing blindsided university officials holding emergency conference calls, contacting her on social media and even her son’s email address as they frantically sought answers................

Tweet storm is a coming if the SCOTUS sides with the district courts...
I doubt that the Supreme Court will affirm the district courts' rulings. I expect the five conservative justices to tie themselves into legal knots to find a way to protect Trump, motivated solely by partisanship.

I could see them splitting at best, saying that Congress has the right but holding off the NY supeona.

I just read something the other day that said he is losing a lot of support among suburban women in particular

I read something similar but I do not believe it. I think millions of people who are saying they will not vote for him again will never be able to vote for a D. I think publicly they will say he lost their support but on voting day will vote for him anyway.

It's gonna be a nail biter.

So, even if you ignore the heartlessness of using these students as pawns to pressure colleges, it makes zero sense economically.

    They are just idiotic.

Really if you actually had to pay for your own anything you would realize that no matter what a education costs it costs people from other countries a ton compared to an American. If rich people stay here for online classes and pay for everything by God let let their parents pay them.

I was busy working earlier, but yeah, he snapped.
