The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

Ladies and Gentlemen - the president of the United States of America

    Looks like he got denied...

there's no way to spin last night. None. Utter failure. Trump's PR team is a reflection of Trump. A ton of bluster (the Death Star metaphor, e.g.) but not a lot of substance. Post-failure flailing and blaming. If he can't muster more emotion than this, it's trouble. Without a Hillary to frothify voters, how else do you stir up the paranoia?

I suspect we'll see and hear more about immigration and 2A and crime/law and order

"Make America Great Again" when you have been in office is detrimental. As is "Transition."

But how much will last night's debacle actually matter? Or what does it actually signify? We'll see...

His sloganeering really is rather absurd.

It seems clear the plan was to transition to “Keep America Great,” beating people over the head with superficial numbers and gaslighting, but that sort of doesn’t work as well once you are the owner of the worst pandemic response in the world, an economy looking down the barrel of a depression due in part to your mismanagement of the virus and across multiple adjacent sectors.

Yep. The look as he walked back to the White House tells it all...

(Kudos to the Lincoln Project for the continued trolling.)

Looks like all the Biden campaign has to do is sit back and let Trump implode. Last night couldn't have gone worse for him. Yeah - 1,000,000 requests for tickets and dude only got 6,200 people to show up.

On April 15 is was a 3 point race in Biden's favor and now it's over 10.

And the double-digit lead is from a FOX News poll. That can't be good.

I say ignore the polls and keep the pedal all the way down right through November 3rd. Don't let up until January 21, 2021. Trump needs to not just be defeated, he and everything he stands for must be humiliated for all the world to see.

Gotta be careful with national polls though.

They were almost perfectly correct in 2016, and reflected the popular reality, people liked and chose Hillary over Trump....Doesn’t matter though if the electoral math isn’t in your favor.

I think a number of state polls show more favorable to Biden than Hillary in 2016, so that is a good sign, as is the deviation from 2016 where people that dislike both candidates heavily lean Biden(in 2016 it was Trump that got that benefit), but I am just hesitant to read much of anything into national polls..

Especially as my faith in humanity, and in particular the people of this country, continues to reside in the gutter.

Completely agree. The one thing that Trump doesn't have going for him right now is momentum. He's losing it and losing it quickly. The anger against the Republican establishment has turned in to uncertainty and most know Trump has handled the pandemic situation terribly.

Biden isn't the strongest candidate, but (and I hate to say this) he's also not a woman. We have to realize that a big part of the hatred for Hillary was due to sexism and the idea that a woman was incompetent as a leader compared to Trump. I heard it time and again in 2016.

    guess I'll put this here
    =====================
The U.S. Agency for Global Media is a federal office most Americans don’t think much about. It oversees a collection of news agencies, most famously the Voice of America, whose job it is to represent America and American values, including liberty and democracy, to the world.

As of this week, it’s being run by a former associate of far-right former Trump adviser and wily propagandist Stephen K. Bannon.

When conservative filmmaker Michael Pack was finally confirmed by the Senate on a party-line vote (with the exception of Sen. Joe Manchin III (W.Va.), the only Democrat to vote for him), Democrats warned that he would turn the agency (formerly known as the Broadcasting Board of Governors) into a mouthpiece for Trump propaganda, while Republicans dismissed that idea as preposterous.

But Pack wasted no time. In what is being called the “Wednesday night massacre,” he moved quickly to clean house and consolidate power, as NPR reports:

Pack swiftly sidelined most of the agency’s senior leadership by stripping them of their authority. He also fired the chiefs of the government-sponsored broadcast networks for foreign audiences that his agency oversees, including Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty; Radio Free Asia; Office of Cuba Broadcasting, which oversees Radio and Television Martí; and Middle East Broadcasting Networks, which runs Alhurra and Radio Sawa.
That came after the two top editors at VOA resigned in anticipation of Pack’s arrival.

Now it’s possible that he will replace all those people with fine journalists committed to the agency’s mission of providing honest, fair and thorough news reporting that represents not the person sitting in the White House at a particular moment but all of America.

But does anyone really think that’s what will happen? Or is it more likely that the the agency will become a stronghold of Trump partisans?..................................

Didn't he do the same thing last year with another artist's music at his rallies? I doubt there are many people/bands out there with songs well known enough to be campaign songs that would allow Trump to use it.

According to this, there have been several: https://www.vulture.com/2018/11/the-history-of-musicians-rejecting-donald-trump.html

Neil Young, REM, Twisted Sister, Adele, Elton John, Rolling Stones, Queen, George Harrison/Beatles, Pavarotti, Steven Tyler/Aerosmith, Prince, Pharrell, Rihanna, Guns and Roses and now Tom Petty.

In that article it had a link to artists that have also declined to perform at his inauguration: https://www.vulture.com/2016/12/musicians-who-declined-trumps-inauguration.html

I would think at this point, the Trump campaign team (and any political team to be honest) would have the foresight to get approval ahead of time for music they can use.

It's Queen, REM, the Stones and Neil Young that I remember specifically now that you listed it. Probably because I am a big fan of all of those bands/artists.

I mean, I think every campaign I can remember going back to Clinton's first run when he had "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" as his campaign song that has had an official song, it was approved by the artist to be their theme song for the campaign. Just goes to show how self-important Trump really thinks he is. Of course he doesn't need permission, because he's Donald Trump.

I suppose since all they get is a cease and desist letter, and the "news" of it cycles out almost overnight, there's really no downside to just playing whatever you want. Just put on what music you like and want to play at your rally, when the letter arrives the next day, take that artist off your list.
