Looks like it's alive and kicking to me... Sheezzzzzz.. Really...

The farmer-owned dairy cooperative, which produces butter, cheese and other milk products, has dropped the Native American maiden image from its packaging, opting instead for just a landscape.
The logo, which has been the company’s label for nearly 100 years since it was founded in Minnesota in 1921, has been called “racist” and criticized for its use of the “butter maiden.”

Allow me to suggest that you go lecture somebody your own age.
    Ageist!

And: we both know that with age does NOT come wisdom. Some people maybe, but most... not so much.

And you're showing a lack of facts.

Native American artist Patrick DesJarlait, of the Ojibwe tribe, redesigned the packaging in the 1950s to foster “a sense of Indian pride,” the Minnesota Reformer reported.

His son, Robert DesJarlait, told the outlet that the image — which has been slammed by many as “racist” — has become a “paradox” for Native Americans.

“He was breaking a lot of barriers . . . Back in the ’50s, nobody even thought about stereotypical imagery. Today it’s a stereotype, but it’s also a source of cultural pride,” DesJarlait told the outlet.

So, before I respond to Joe, I would like to respond to you. First, what does my age have to do with anything? Why is that relevant? It is a tactic you use quite often and its hollow. Is someone in their 30s uneducated? So, because Joe is twenty years older than myself I am unqualified to say anything to him.

Another tactic you use is labeling someone's perspective "lecturing" or "making demands" when you disagree with the content. I make posts, offer opinion, ask questions, make statements, pass judgements and offer insight like everyone else. That doesn't have an age limit.

As to your article, your facts, it is laughable. "Back in the 50s, no one even thought of stereotypical imagery." YOU DON'T SAY?! Wow, during that progressive time of 1950, no one thought that imagery of a Native American woman may be considered offensive to some. You know, I think my father and mother and grandfathers and grandmothers and all of my aunts and uncles and all of their family members may remember 1950 a bit different than you DD. You know,, since 1950 is the great barometer for cultural progression in 2020. That image is a source of cultural pride FOR THEM. We respect that. Like I respect Joe's view on the flag. But I don't share them. And I'm not wrong for not sharing them. And if Mr. DesJarlait's countrymen and Lake O Lakes feel differently, that's their right too. No one is a wussie for their perspective. Get the point now? Or was my 30 year old vocabulary to pedestrian for you?

Speaking of, you have some nerve attempting to wag your finger at ANYONE on these boards about lecturing people. You who's reputation is peppered as someone who spends most of his time pontificating his wisdom, imparting your jewels of knowledge to the unworthy, less aged and incapable. Here's the thing DD. This board, this format, the anonymity, is the great equalizer. You could have spent a lifetime flying in choppers all over Europe, grenade in one hand, the Bible in the other, liberating every city across Asia whilst wearing underwear given to you by JFK himself, who called you the ultimate American patriot while you two shared cocktails in a hot tub while comparing stories about horse back riding and government oversight, all the while, I'm some poor 30 year old negro who grew up in a shack, that I still live in, in Podunk, Louisiana.

None of that shirt matters my friend. Here, ideas, are the great equalizer. Because the truth is, you don't know my life experiences, what I've learned, what I've been taught, what I have experienced, where I have been or what I have done. So who the fork are you to tell me what im qualified to speak on or lecture someone over? So, keep in mind that while you are pointing your one finger at me about lecturing people that there are three more pointing back at you, Mr. Let Me Tell You About My Life Every Chance I Get No Matter How Relevant It's To The Topic. Because we all know your wife's horseback riding and your military service is super germane to everything discussed on these boards.

In short, bro please. Oh, I mean sir. Don't want some quip about my ebonics usage and how your daughters are so hip.

First off... My heritage, culture and perspective is not more important than anyone elses. They should all be equal.. So with that said...

Great. So stop acting like it does. Why are they wussies and soft? Why can't you leave it at "I don't have a problem with it" or "I don't see it as ______ ." We have can have a discussion on that. But, when you attempt to further dismiss or marginalize that perspective, what room have you left for that person's perspective, other than to summarily dismiss it out of hand. You don't even attempt to understand a different perspective. You say I'm right out of the gate which makes them wrong. How is that not putting your values above their's?

While the North Dakota state Rep. Ruth Buffalo (D) told the Pioneer Press that the classic Land O’Lakes imagery goes “hand-in-hand with human and sex trafficking ... That has nothing to do with Racism...

And Brandon Marshall said the Saints are done. So? Why always operate to the lowest common denominator. Why can't it simply be, in 2020, most of these images were created as negative caricatures and, even, if that specific image isn't or isn't as egregious as some others, if an entity decides to disassociate itself with image, then pound for pound, that's a good thing.

Take the Cleveland Indians and Florida State. I think we can all agree that Chief Wahoo is overtly racist. There is nothing honorable about that image. It shouldn't be used. However, with Florida State, it's different.

“For almost 70 years, Florida State has worked closely, side by side, with the Seminole Tribe of Florida in a relationship that is mutually supportive and built on respect,” says Browning Brooks, the assistant vice president for university communications at Florida State University.

The university, whose athletic teams are known as the Seminoles, embraces its relationship with the Seminole Tribe of Florida and considers members of the tribe community partners. The tribe’s involvement is critical to the success of the university, say officials, not just a group of people whose name might conjure up inspiring imagery for student athletes on a war path.

“This may be splitting hairs,” Brooks says, “but we do not have a mascot.”

The student who portrays the great Seminole warrior Osceola and rides the Appaloosa horse Renegade during football games must maintain good grades and demonstrate personal character. Portraying Osceola on game days is a great honor and one that is supported by members of the tribe, the women of which sew the garments worn by the Osceola actor, according to the university.

But, what if one day, either the tribe or university said, you know, after recent consideration, discussions with blah blah, whatever, we have decided to stop using certain images because we now find them offensive. Or, xyz group finds offense and we respect their stance.

Why would they be wussies for that? Do we always need to have the majority's blessing on something before a group decides, "eh, let's not anymore." It may not always be popular to do something respectful but it can still be the right thing to do.

No it's not... Civility and good manners is when you say "Yes Mame" and "No Sir" Please and Thank you...

Politically correct is when you take an Indian Maiden off the packaging of butter because you are afraid someone is gonna be offended and not buy your product.

Or you don't put an American Flag on a T-shirt so somebody doesn't get offended.

Big Big Difference... Nice try though at taking a shot at Trump instead of our society for becoming a bunch of Cry Babies.

Joe it probably has to do with the Indian girl having not a damn thing to do with lakes or butter or cattle. Or we're native Americans known for dairy farming and manufacturing dairy products? Nope not at all. Infact cows were brought to north America by Spain just like horses were.

The company is actually a farmers co op. If almost four thousand farmers just want a lake and no girl on it and YOU have a problem?

Are you gonna be all up in arms if they dump snap crackle and pop?

Like you Joe but this whole thread is just plain dumb.

That girl on hte LOL butter looked no more like an Indian Maiden than white Jesus looks like an Israelite.

And, Chef Boyardee was a man named Hector Boiardee who was a real man who put his own face on his own brand after changing the spelling so that Americans would more likely get the pronunciation correct.

Your outrage is pitiful and manners are not just pleasantries in greeting.

Yeah, lets take a little trip back in time. 1946, the disney movie song of the south comes out. just one of many examples of the time:

When “Song of the South” was released in 1946, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People called for an open protest and boycott, galvanized in a manner unseen since the debut of D.W. Griffith's 1915 love letter to the Ku Klux Klan, ”The Birth of A Nation.” The NAACP argued that “Song of the South” helped “to perpetuate a dangerously glorified picture of slavery" and gave “the impression of an idyllic master-slave relationship which is a distortion of the facts.”

Some may think this is another ridiculous silly thread. To those people I ask you this:

Don't you think the timing of this rebranding is suspicious?
No, it's a lead up to their 100 year anniversary, which is in 2021.

I literally have no idea what you’re talking about.

I think a discussion can be had on some of the drawbacks of political correctness, but I don't think this is a great example of it. It's a branding decision that doesn't infringe on anyone's rights, so why get upset over it?

Because there's nothing else going on to talk about right now. So of course we should have a debate about a goddam butter logo.
