The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

In any of the examples you cite, was the presidents private business benefitting from these expenditures?

Not only is Trump doing this far more often than any president ever has (probably more than most combined), but some of that money is going into his pocket.
I'm not old enough to remember a lot of these. Did the government have to give money to businesses owned by those former presidents in order to have the necessary space for the support staff and protection detail?
    Very similar questions.
I'd suggest starting with the Warm Springs, GA, accommodations made for FDR. Don't assume anything and draw your own conclusions.
Then, look up the security detail for Eleanor Roosevelt, who outlived her husband by two decades and long outlived any personal threat to herself.
There was a book and a movie written about it.
There are plenty of other examples of the taxpayer dime being used to make accommodations and install security measures for personal retreat residences for presidents and first ladies, but FDR's case is both intriguing and interesting. He's a president everybody should get to know.

How about you explain to us how it is comparable to what Trump is doing, if that is what you’re implying.

    I was as kid.

Pretty observant kid. You were like 5 years old if your posted age is correct.

Personally, I had just turned four when the assassination attempt on Reagan went down. Let me lecture these whippersnappers on here about how all that went down and what really happened because I was there. Kids today don't have the experience of how the world works.

(insert long-winded meandering off-topic anecdote here)

Finally, I definitely agree with you the Trump spending is a total apples to apples comparison to any other president. Nothing unique about it whatsoever.

Good talking to you as always, DD.

Ever since the bogus Koran Flushing story that ended with people dying in riots in the Middle East, I don't read Newsweek or recommend it as a news source. It's now part of the Newsweek/Daily Beast family. The name says it all.

Did you miss the part where they say they are also high on Factual reporting based on proper sourcing and a reasonable fact check record? Just because they lean left on story selection doesn't mean they're wrong or inaccurate.

Sweet graph who puts it out?

    What way do they lean?

How about you post a link to them kinda want to know what they say about pajama media and others posted here.

Do you have anything else Newsweek did that was horrible and wrong in say the last 15 years?
You're really never heard of Media bias fact check? Use them all the time. Pretty good organization overall.

You made a claim, I am asking for verification: did any of the situations you mention involve government funds being spent in a manner that allowed the president to directly make a personal profit?

Of course they didn’t and DD also never acknowledged the point that chuck made that the main reason Trump gets crap about this stuff is that he’s been an immense hypocrite about all of it.

It’s never Trump’s fault, it’s always the meanies in the media, don’t you know.

The background information on the subject of U.S. Presidential History is substantial.
I suggested starting with FDR, but you could skip ahead to all the money that was spent on security and the Kennedy compound in Martha's Vineyard or the Bush compound in Kinnebunkport, Maine.
Read about security expenditures for presidential retreats and draw your own conclusions.
You seem to have already drawn a conclusion about the current president.

How much of that money was going back into the President's pockets in those past examples?

You keep pretending it is the same, when it is absolutely not the same thing.

You refuse to explain how it is the same, you just tell us to research it ourselves, but we can't research your opinion.

    Explain your thinking to us.

    My opinion?
We are a nation traumatized by the deaths of Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, and Kennedy.
    My opinion?
We spend whatever we have to spend for presidential security, including personal retreats.
    My opinion?
The only time this becomes an issue is when the political opposition wants to stir the pot about how much we're spending on presidential security.
    My opinion?
Accusations about presidents profiteering off of their position are as old as George Washington.
    My opinion?
If you're not aware of that, you need to research presidential history and draw your own conclusions.

Surely you have to understand why it's different, and often why it's always different with Trump. Because he's been such an incessant blow-hard . . . he set the table and he deserves to be called out on it.
But my favorite are the ones where he said he wouldn't play golf.

His voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.
I never watched his TV show because I simply couldn't stand the man.
I've never owned a MAGA hat.
I've never attended a single rally.
I've never donated a single dime to his campaign.
    I hate his HAIR!

Why bother typing so many words to avoid the point.

It’s been nice talking with you. Have a great week.

That's all fine and good, but you were deriding the criticism that Trump gets over his golfing an attending of sporting events as nothing but partisan behavior regarding typical presidential activity. My response was directed to that line of thinking - and noting that Trump has brought the criticism upon himself in a way that past presidents have not.

Saying now that you don't particularly like him is sort of beside the point.

I did not avoid the point, but it's been nice talking with you too. Week's half over!

It all goes to the man's bombastic character, Chuck. I readily concede he's a jerk. I just don't see the need to repeat that he's a jerk, over and over and over.
