This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Guess Hilary owed Joe a favor :idunno:

    :hihi:
You laugh, but the RW idiot news is saying that they know who is intimidating these guys - and now they say there are 10 “whistleblowers”, and they cannot contact any of them.

Why will Rs not purge their party of these guys? At some point you have to admit they like having their support right?

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) sees the military in a dramatic leftward lurch that has hurt recruiting and combat readiness.
The third-year senator believes Pentagon leaders are forcing troops to read liberal books. That they are helping provide abortion services. And, in new remarks the past few days, that they are inappropriately driving “white nationalists” out of the service.

“They’re politicizing the military so much, they’re ruining our military,” Tuberville told reporters on Thursday, noting that the Army missed its 2022 recruiting goal by 25 percent. “Something’s going wrong in our military.”

These positions have placed Tuberville — whose military background consists of using war metaphors to inspire his teams during three decades coaching college football — in the spotlight as the leading conservative antagonist to the Defense Department.

It’s a particularly unusual twist because Republicans have for decades wrapped themselves in the patriotic mantle of supporting the military.
Republicans have spent months privately complaining about Tuberville.

It was perfectly fine to play to the TV bookers at Fox News with complaints about a “woke” Pentagon culture, which most GOP lawmakers consider, at best, a narrow problem.

But Tuberville has gone too far in actually picking a fight with the most trusted public institution in America, creating a one-man blockade of nearly 200 promotions among top Pentagon brass to critical military positions……..

Oh look there, Tuberville is still full of shirt! Shocking. Lol.

In the nearly two weeks since Daniel Penny was recorded killing Jordan Neely on a New York City subway with a minutes-long chokehold, the 24-year-old Marine Corps veteran has faced calls to be arrested, been denounced as a vigilante by activists and been labeled a “murderer” by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

But in the lead-up to the Manhattan district attorney’s office charging him with second-degree manslaughter, Penny has found a groundswell of financial and online support from high-profile Republicans such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Fox News personalities and conservatives on Elon Musk’s Twitter.

Many of them have rallied around Penny and hailed the veteran as a “hero” and “good Samaritan.”
“We stand with Good Samaritans like Daniel Penny,” DeSantis tweeted Friday night. “Let’s show this Marine … America’s got his back.”

“The Marine who stepped in to protect others is a hero,” tweeted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
A legal-defense fund set up by Penny’s attorneys on a crowdfunding site that has hosted fundraisers for defendants in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and Kyle Rittenhouse had raised more than $1 million as of Saturday afternoon.

Most of the money has come from anonymous donors thanking him for what he did and agreeing with his lawyers’ statement that Penny never intended to harm Neely, 30.

The right-wing response to the case suggests that Republican lawmakers and pundits could make Penny into the latest conservative talking point.

In the process, conservatives and right-leaning media outlets have described Neely — a Black homeless man who authorities say was described by witnesses as acting in a “hostile and erratic manner” — as “unhinged” and with “a long history of violent crime.”

The political right has seized on police statements that Neely had 44 previous arrests for offenses such as assault, disorderly conduct and fare evasion. (Authorities have not confirmed Neely’s record for The Washington Post.) Fox News host Greg Gutfeld said the manslaughter charge against Penny was “pro-criminal” and “anti-hero.”……..

I came here to post an article about this. In my eyes, it's what has become of America. Maybe it's because I live in a red state and work with, largely, uneducated people, but Penny's behavior is heroic to the majority of those around me. So many people are quick to dehumanize those who look different or have less money.

It’s a shame that all don’t view this as a tragedy. Whether Penny committed a crime will come down to how long he held the choke hold after Neeley stopped moving. I’ve heard he held it from a total of 3 to 15 minutes. If he held it 15, he murdered Neeley. If it was 3, then it may not even be a crime. I’ve read that marines are well trained, so they know how long it takes to kill someone. No matter what, it is a tragedy, and it is despicable to celebrate the killing. One can defend Penny by saying that he was a good samaritan, but at least temper it with condolences. In reality, most don’t know if what Penny did was good in any way, because the facts are not clear.

That tracks. I've read people have already donated 1 million to his defense fund.

And already victim blaming with Neely’s mental health and past troubles

Framing his death as either a good thing or no great loss

Makes me mad every time they do this (which is every time it happens)

Don’t know this motive or mindset but guess this can go here for now

This isn’t far from me, I was just in Fairfax last week

Notice they are still framing the kavanaugh thing as an assassination attempt but the whitmer thing as a kidnapping attempt

Police in Virginia on Monday named the suspect in a violent attack in which two staffers for a Democratic congressman were assaulted with a baseball bat, requiring hospital treatment.

Xuan Kha Tran Pham, 49, was arrested after the attack at Gerry Connolly’s office in Fairfax. Connolly told CNN one staff member was hit in the head while the other, an intern on her first day in the job, was hit on the side.

Connolly said the attacker, a constituent, caused widespread damage to the office, including shattering glass and breaking computers.

“The thought that someone would take advantage of my staff’s accessibility to commit an act of violence is unconscionable and devastating,” Connolly said in a statement.

He told CNN the suspected attacker “was filled with out of control rage”.

A police spokesperson, Sgt Lisa Gardner, said police were called at about 10.50am. Connolly was not at the office, Gardner said, adding that some staff members hid during the attack.

Acts of political extremism, including ones targeting lawmakers, have become increasingly common in the US…….

Cue the newest hero on the MAGA celebrity circuit: Daniel Penny, the former marine whose golden ticket to infamy was allegedly choking to death 30-year-old Jordan Neely, a Black homeless man with mental health issues on a New York City subway. Penny has been charged with second-degree manslaughter. He happens to be white, and is using self-defense as the excuse for his actions.

Sound familiar? Who can forget Kyle Rittenhouse, the AR-15 toting 17-year old who successfully claimed self-defense when he traveled out-of-state and killed two men, severely wounding another during a violent evening of protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Since then, baby-faced Rittenhouse has been a frequent guest on FOX News, and a repeat visitor to the MAGA king’s lair in Mar-a-Lago. His very first interview after the shootings was with the now-unemployed Tucker (will-work-for-lies) Carlson.

At the time, Republican lawmakers rushed to the teen’s defense, including Florida Rep Matt Gaetz, Arizona Rep Paul Gosar and the forgettable former North Carolina Rep Madison Cawthorn. (Recently, Cawthorn pled guilty for trying to smuggle a loaded handgun through security at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, his second such attempt.)…….

So it should come as no surprise that the same online business is now raising funds for Daniel Penny’s defense. The campaign, set up by the New York City law firm, Raiser & Kenniff, PC, states that, “Daniel Penny is, a twenty-four-year-old college student and decorated Marine veteran, facing a criminal investigation stemming from him protecting individuals on a NYC subway train from an assailant who later died.”

Money raised so far? $1.5 million from more than 20,000 donors. Christopher Ekstrom donated $500. “Marines like Mister Penny MADE AMERICA 🇺🇸 GREAT. Thanks for being a MAN! I’m sorry our sick society is punishing you.”

An anonymous donor, who contributed $1,001 to the cause, wrote, “Daniel Penny is an American hero. He had the bravery to stand up and do the right thing. No tears for the [man] who died.”

Republicans, always ready to appeal to the politics of division, have rushed to embrace Penny. Florida Governor and future presidential candidate Ron DeSantis tweeted, “We stand with Good Samaritans like Daniel Penny. Let’s show this Marine … America’s got his back.”

Georgia Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene characterized Neely as, “a violent criminal who should have been behind bars.”

On the fateful day when Neely and Penny’s paths crossed, the “violent criminal” was shouting that he was hungry and thirsty. He was crying out for help, help that never came. He did not deserve to die in such a brutal manner. The system failed him. We failed him……..

Yeah, that was all over the news here today. He put 2 people in the hospital with a baseball bat. Unreal. One of the staffers is an intern and was her first day on the job. Terrible. Ugh. People are so forked.

I thought they really, really, no really this time they’re serious, wanted to reduce the deficit? Make this make sense.

The thing that students won't be able to understand, and will have to be explained in detail. How Republicans had widespread support during America's second gilded age.

Where are the normal conservative posters to till us both parties are the same?

This is the ONLY legislation the party passed when it had complete control.

After all the idiotic statements about allowing the US to default, I’m happy to see #3:

…..But from the outset of the media spectacle surrounding the case, right-wing lawmakers and commentators have sought to focus Neely’s death as a failure of Democratic policy around crime while justifying Mr Penny’s actions.

“Penny’s case has been injected into the bloodstream of partisan politics,” Matt Dallek, a professor of political management at George Washington University, told The Washington Post. “A lot of conservatives can point to vigilantes like him and say, ‘They’re standing between us and the mob.’ It fits into a political narrative, and people like Penny are appropriated, whether they want to be or not.”

Several donors – including Kid Rock, far-right streamer Tim Pool, and Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy – have contributed huge sums to Mr Penny’s fund, which is run by his attorneys. Mr Ramaswamy donated $10,000.

“Penny is the Subway Good Samaritan and we are lucky to have brave souls like him who are willing to do the right thing,” said Mr Pool, who confirmed his $20,000 donation on 15 May.

“Thank you for protecting the citizens that day,” wrote another donor who contributed $10,000.

“Mr Penny is a hero. Alvin Bragg is a Peice of work,” Kid Rock wrote in a message with his $5,000 donation.

In his message supporting Mr Penny, Mr DeSantis also lashed out at Mr Bragg, the Manhattan prosecutor whose office is overseeing the case…..

Meanwhile, far-right commentators with large audiences on Elon Musk’s Twitter have sought to justify the killing of Neely on a social media platform that boosts the audience reach of far-right users who pay for “verification”.

Mr Musk has also called protests against Neely’s killing “disingenuous” and he liked a tweet calling Neely “worthless.”

Mike Cernovich called Neely a “psychopath who terrorized subway passengers.” US Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene called him “a violent criminal who should have been behind bars.” Her post was liked by Musk, who also liked a Twitter poll from another user asking “DidJordan Neely deserve what happened to him?”

More than two-thirds of those who voted in the poll believed “Yes, he had it coming.”

US Rep Matt Gaetz of Florida called Mr Penny a “Subway Superman.”

“The mob will relentlessly come after the marine who subdued Neely till his life is ruined, he’s killed or behind bars for life,” according to far-right pundit Tomi Lahren. “All for trying to protect his fellow passengers. We often see this exact kind of story where a violent vagrant beats, assaults, or rapes an innocent person, as onlookers do nothing..and we wonder why?”

On his broadcast, The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles said Mr Penny “should get an award for valor” and “a key to the city.” One America News host Dan Ball accused the media, Black Lives Matter, and “the antifa crowd” of “hyping it up to be George Floyd 2.0.”

During a YouTube brodcast, Steven Crowder stated that “Jordan Neely forfeited his right to live.”

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld described the manslaughter charges against Mr Penny as “pro-criminal” and “anti-hero”. Earlier this month, Fox News host Jesse Watters stated, without evidence, that Mr Penny confronted Neely “gently at first” and that Mr Penny “tried to de-escalate”, claims that have not been substantiated……..

This will be interesting. They will be forced to vote to keep a man with 13 or so criminal indictments.
