Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

"We can't do that to the country",

"A trial would tear the country apart",

"For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

Yeah, I always figured they had the goods with the phone records, but what we hear might not necessarily be viewed in the same light as what a judge and jury would. So, no idea. It's part of why I'm scratching my head on why it's taking so long.

Only thing I can think of is maybe they're dragging their feel to let the other litigation he's facing play out.
There is no need to rush it imo. Trumps legal team will be very busy for awhile

I think Willis has decided to take a big swing - she’s not just relying on the phone call and she’s not limiting her reach to Trump. I think she will indict quite a few people - including some fairly prominent GA Rs who participated in the effort to assert fake electors.

I also read where Rudy was involved in the illegal access to voter information that happened in one GA county that was facilitated by a county election official. And Trump was said to know they were going to attempt to gain access to voter data by extra-legal means. And that these efforts weren’t only related to the presidential election, but also the senate runoff elections.

Maybe, but the calculus changes dramatically if it looks like he's gonna get elected. It would be very difficult to get something to stick if he's the nominee and gets elected. You'd need to leave enough time for appeals and delays to get handled before the primaries are completed.

Not with state issues. DOJ yes, but I don’t think there is any issue with a state prosecution.

I don't necessarily disagree with this, but the focus needs to be squarely on Trump. If they get too caught up in all of the peripheral stuff, then that could risk letting the Trump team run out the clock by the time the primaries are completed. Maybe my concerns turn out to be unwarranted. Time will tell.

Why not with state issues? If Trump gets nominated and God forbid, elected, the state won't be able to do anything to him at that point. Dragging feet is exactly what the Trump team wants to happen.

Wasn't this reported weeks ago though?
Yes, but I imagine it will take time to take new depositions and negotiate terms of cooperation. Especially if it’s several people who all want reduced exposure in order to testify now.

Well, that should take days, not weeks if you're trying to get this done in a short period of time. And for her to say they won't finish until this summer seems more than a bit much to me.

Excuse my ignorance, but couldn't the taped conversation between Trump and Ga. Att. General
Brad Raffensperger be considered a smoking gun?

I don’t think that is the smoking gun.

I’m not sure a prosecutor could prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump, in his really good brain, wasn’t simply saying that if they examined the votes, they would find enough votes to overturn the election.

Depends on how many want immunity. And their schedules.

They don't need to be physically present. They can record a video conference, so scheduling it shouldn't be too difficult. Whether they want immunity or not isn't going to slow the process down. Even if they all wanted immunity, it still shouldn't take more than a week, two at the most.

There was one statement in his “perfect” phone call that I think qualifies to show his intent: he said “there’s nothing wrong with saying you recalculated”. That right there is proof he only wanted them to say they found more votes whether they actually existed or not.

In a case like this, with possibly 12 or more individuals of interest, I don’t think you should rush through these depositions. You have to take them, then you have to cross reference what everyone said to look for discrepancies and then when you find them you need to either call people back in, or verify by other means.

Plus, I am hearing tonight that grand juries in GA have specified terms, and the current one’s term expires in a couple weeks or so and the next one is seated July 11. I think she thought she couldn’t get everything squared away in time for this grand jury so she will have to wait for the next one.

A couple of weeks to take the depositions is definitely doable, but having everything done within 2 weeks will be tough to pull off. Didn't realize there would be that much of a gap between terms. That makes more sense.
