Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Good for you for saying the truth and the plan all along.
There is no secret there. Putin sought this situation and thought it would be a walk in and they'd surrender. UKranine is doing the whole world a favor. If Russia get Ukraine, it puts even a greater strain on the other nations of this world. If Putin gets Ukraine, he would't stop. He wants another USSR situation. NOTHING good will come from Ukraine losing this war. But much better things will happen if Putin is outsed because of it.

The Chinese plan would, imo, end up with Ukraine losing more territory to Putin. Xi has no interest in a plan that would result in the withdrawal of Russian forces from ALL Ukrainian territory including Crimea. Even if Ukraine said Russia could keep Crimea it still isn’t happening. Xi‘s goal is to make China look “good” at the expense of Ukraine and the U.S. while using Putin as an unwitting dupe.

Xi has been so bad for China. He is the one who lead them down this antagonistic role towards America, and all their neighbors. His poor leadership, along with Putin's highlight why these authoritarian systems fail.

Xi is a absolute moron for wanting to invade Taiwan, and island nation with little to offer that won't be destroyed in an invasion. If his goal is to secure the Chinese economy for the future. He could have rolled the dice on invading Russia, and taking ONG resources that the country desperately needs. Also reclaiming historically Chinese land in outer Manchuria back from Russia.

By roll the dice, I'm talking about will Russia engage in a nuclear exchange over it's eastern Asiatic oblasts that they don't seem to care about? Russia could not stop the Chinese military from steamrolling all the way to the Urals.

I wanted to see who this person is. It says he's the "Author of Yesterday's Man: the Case Against Joe Biden."

Yesterday's man... . Then I scrolled down and on the third tweet below the top I saw this:

Well, as you could well imagine I'm somewhat less than impressed. Yesterday's man... .
Are you trying to imply that he's a Bush supporter? I see why you didn't post his tweet.

Do you know what a cease-fire is? How is that different from an actual peace treaty? More importantly, is America giving sound advise about not accepting a cease-fire for peace talks? If you want to get big brained, and start rubbing brain cells together, Why is China requesting a cease-fire to begin with?

Freezing the conflict with the Russian Federation means a pause that gives the Russian Federation a break for rest," the Wall Street Journal reported, citing comments by Zelenskiy.

So you are contending that the US somehow manipulated Putin into invading Ukraine? Like was it 5G microwaves? Did the US make him invade Crimea in 2012? Is the US causing Putin to kidnap Ukrainian children and commit all sorts of war crimes too?

How can you live in such an evil country? I think you should emigrate away from the US personally. Cleanse yourself from the evil that is the U.S.A.!

    (this is sarcasm)

Also, SFL, your 100% record is secure - every time you post someone I go look and sure enough I already have blocked them on Twitter. Most people I block because they are clearly pushing anti-US or pro-Putin agendas. Or they are rude, cruel, or just a general dick. Or they are liars.

Oh aren't you a suspicious one.

I have no idea if he is for either Bush or Trump. He didn't say. I would not follow or regard his tweets as worth posting like you did, but I'm not you.

I posted it the way I posted it because it's funny. A few inches below where I see his book title which talks about yesterday's man I see a classic photo of yesterday's man, the man who made the blunder of the century by claiming a mission accomplished when it had not been accomplished, and still after all those years has not been accomplished.

In the hope that other people might make the same humors connection I made I typed "Yesterday's man... ." both above and below the photo of yesterday's man after having set that book title which says "yesterday's man" in bold.

Biden is not yesterday's man, Bush is.

I'd be for a peace deal that re-establishes the borders to what they were prior to Feb 2022.

In reality all Putin has to do to end this thing is agree to that and follow through and it'd all be over.

Of course he won't because to do so would be to admit defeat here as the aggressor who started all this shirt.. and as such Putin has no interest in reaching a fair and reasonable peace deal.

I think the PMC Wagner attack on African Gold Mine that left 9 Chinese nationals executed may have played a role for Xi.

Gave him a bit of leverage ( not that he truly cares about any Chinese citizen )

There would have to be more conditions than that. In terms of territory, that my be a starting point, but really Putin needs to give up Crimea and the Dombas as well. Those aren't Russian territories.

He also needs to give back all of the Ukrainian kids he kidnapped (because that's some sick shirt) and pay to repair Ukraine's infrastructure.

The thing that should be apparent by now is that if people/countries (whether it's Trump or Putin/Russia) don't pay a serious price for serious violations of law, there is no real peace. Only a minor pause in conflict until they try the same thing again.

Yeah, was framing it that way really for SFL to set up the part about "Putin [having] no interest in a fair and reasonable peace deal."

Would like for there to be more to it including Crimea, but also know that even pre February 2022 borders are a no go.

You didn't watch a single video.

This third tweet...Tracy says "extensive US involvemen". That's not even close to Murphys exact words. Tracey interjected "extensive" and he said "in part, helped".

There is no there here with an interview from 2014. Had Russia not invaded a sovereign nation, these clips would be collecting dust somewhere.

What I would agree with is that allowing Russia to annex Crimea with zero response (other than some measly sanctions) was the catalyst for 2022. Putin thought he could continue his quest without serious intervention from the West. Thought Biden would cower due to domestic political environment.

If there is one man who saw Putin for who and what he was many many years ago, it was Biden.

And he has been spot on in this regard since the invasion.
