This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

I have to admit that Nikki Haley is giving her best effort to stand out and be noticed.
She put forth the idea regarding members of congress who are 75 or older, etc.
Now this morning I see this...

I'm not saying I support her. I'm just pointing out that she isn't just going though the motions so she can be someone's VP choice. She seems legit in her quest to be the longshot GOP nominee.

Until 2 February it was business as usual in the small rural community of East Palestine, Ohio. The local paper carried obituaries and sporting results, interspersed with stories of a homecoming queen, an abusive puppy mill and the driver in the Toughest Monster Truck Tour who was arrested for human trafficking.

The next day it all went up in flames.

“Train derailment sparks massive fire, prompts evacuations.” “Videos show major fire raging after tanker train derails.”

The derailment of a 50-car freight train carrying toxic materials on 3 February shattered daily life in East Palestine and sent a pall of black smoke over the region. Potentially lethal chemicals spewed into the air, ground and water.

Three weeks into the disaster, a new set of headlines has started to billow up from right-wing outlets and commentators. Now the tragedy of East Palestine has morphed into a racialized lament for the “forgotten” people abandoned by the uncaring “woke” Biden administration.

For “forgotten”, read white.

Leading the charge, as is so often the case with such white-America nativist fearmongering, is the Fox News star Tucker Carlson. “East Palestine is overwhelmingly white, and it’s politically conservative,” he said recently. “That shouldn’t be relevant, but it very much is.”

Carlson went on to describe East Palestine as a “poor benighted town whose people are forgotten, and in the view of the people who lead this country, forgettable”.

He highlighted the indisputable suffering of local residents who were forced to evacuatea two-mile area and since they have returned home remain fearful about the quality of the air and water.

Then Carlson contrasted such hardship with what he called the “favoured poor” who live in “favoured cities” such as Detroit and Philadelphia – a clear euphemism for urban centers, often led by Democratic mayors, with large Black populations.

In these “favoured” places, he said, “everyone feels for them and everyone wants them to be safe”.

The idea that the rail disaster should be viewed through a racial lens has spread like a toxin from Fox News, through right-wing news sites and social media, into the political realm.

JD Vance, the first-term Republican US senator from Ohio, picked up the clarion call of the “forgotten” Americans, calling the residents of East Palestine, pointedly, “our voters”.

Charlie Kirk, a rising star within the Make America Great Again (Maga) universe, was more direct. He lashed out on his show at Biden’s “crusade on white people” and claimed that America’s Democratic leaders “hate working-class whites”…….

Once again, I find it incredibly hard to feel sorry for people who voted for people who said they would get rid of regulations designed to prevent this event from happening. They wanted Trump, they voted for Trump and Trump gave them exactly what they wanted. These same people wanted Trump to repeal Obamacare while many of them are more than likely on the ACA. If they are looking for sympathy for getting exactly what they voted for, "F" them.

I have some "thoughts and prayers" left over from the last mass shooting. They can have those.

“I was mistaken about what I majored in in college”????

“I thought my degree was in International Relations but when I pulled my transcript it turns out it was actually Interpretive Dance, my mistake”

=========================

A Republican lawmaker from Tennessee has apologised after admitting he lied about being a “trained economist” on his Congressional biography.

First-term Congressman Andy Ogles claimed to have graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in International Relations.

However, Nashville’s NewsChannel5 obtained Mr Ogles’ college transcript which showed he had received a degree in Liberal Studies, and only taken a single economics class for which he received a C.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Freedom Caucus member apologised.

“I previously stated that my degree from MTSU was in International Relations. When I pulled my transcript to verify, I realised I was mistaken,” he said. “I apologise for my misstatement.”……

Meanwhile the crazy election stuff in AZ continues to this day:

Is that true? It’s pretty clear she meant to say the beef was brought to America I think. I don’t think she thinks that the cows are migrating, lol.

Who am I to speak for that mess, but people are getting caught up on “Brazil is in America” (though South America), and not on the meat that’s labeled “American” is actually coming from South America.

She has a point though, If they are going to say that the cows country of origin is America, they should include a map of South, Central, and North America and show just what part of America it’s origin is.

Conservatives have long held that the government should avoid interfering with private business decisions.

But over the last two years, Republican state treasurers and attorneys general in Texas, Florida and other states have sought to blacklist banks that factor climate risks and social concerns into their investment decisions.

Now the backlash is coming.

In Republican strongholds such as North Dakota, Indiana, Mississippi and Kentucky, state lawmakers have recently defeated proposals that would prohibit state governments or pension funds from doing business with the big financial institutions that have adopted ESG — environmental, social and governance — goals and policies.

In North Dakota a pair of proposed laws went to crushing defeats with one losing by a 90-3 margin on Feb. 1. They were shot down, in part, by arguments that these proposals contradicted conservative principles.

“Our biggest concern is the idea of somebody telling our banks who to do business with or who not to do business with,” Rick Clayburgh, chief executive of the North Dakota Bankers Association, said after beating back those proposals. “We believe our banks should be allowed to do business with customers they know, the people they know and to make those decisions.”………

Across the country, the battle rages over sustainable investing, with more than $500 billion pouring into climate and socially conscious investments in 2021, according to JPMorgan Chase.

Conservative groups have sought to use public pension plans and state and local bond offerings to freeze out selected financial institutions. Those groups say they are simply trying to counter the injection of “woke” values into Wall Street investment decisions.

But big banks and asset managers supportive of ESG — including BlackRock, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and State Street — say their strategies are being mischaracterized amid the larger culture wars of the day. They say it makes financial sense to factor climate risks and other societal concerns into investment strategies.

More and more, big and small banks are winning that argument on the state level, despite a national effort by conservative dark money groups — nonprofits that don’t have to disclose their donors — to blacklist climate-friendly businesses…….

This is from an article about the NFL and Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder, one of the comments mentioned that if you change a few things around this is easily the GOP and Trump
===================================
…….Season after season, they enabled and even prospered Snyder. He ran his franchise with all the trustworthiness and temperament of a drug lord? No problem.

Presided over a team headquarters that turned into a peep show, in which female employees were leered at and harassed? No problem.

Made a $1.6 million settlement for an alleged assault of a female executive on his private plane, an allegation he has called “meritless”? No problem.

Took out a suspect line of credit while spending like a treasury-draining sultan, as ESPN reported this week? No problem.

The league gave him a virtue-signaling slap on the wrist — after extending his debt ceiling by $450 million.

The NFL had no problem with any of his corrosive practices, even as the acid spill crept closer.

Foisted off expired beer well past its “freshness date” on fans for $9 a pop and peddled sour, rancid old peanuts from defunct Independence Air past their shelf life? No problem.

Lied about season ticket waiting lists, deceived customers about fees? Not a problem, either.

You know when the owners started caring? When it finally became clear that Snyder had so exhausted local goodwill that he couldn’t get a new stadium deal done. Only then did they decide to do something about him.

The maths are hard': Marjorie Taylor Greene mocked for not understanding what 'seized' means

I want you to know that in 2020 there were 4,800 pounds of fentanyl seized by CBP. But in 2021, fiscal year 2021, it increased to 11,200 pounds of fentanyl was seized by the CBP. That is a direct result of Biden administration failure policies," said Greene. "Now here we are in – to date, to date, fiscal, fiscal year 2023 – they have already seized 12,500 pounds of fentanyl. The Biden administration is failing this country by not protecting our border and securing our border, and stopping Chinese fentanyl from being brought into our country illegally by the cartels, and people are dying every single day because of it."
Jaini Margaret: "Hey @RepMTG The word 'seized' when referring to the border, means something was taken at the border & not permitted to come into America. So, the Biden administration has stopped more fentanyl from getting past the border & into America than the Trump administration."

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Democrats took on tremendous losses last election cycle, and now a Republican state lawmaker wants to eliminate the party entirely with a bill filed Tuesday.

“The Ultimate Cancel Act” (SB 1248), sponsored by state Sen. Blaise Ingoglia (R-Spring Hill), would cancel the filings of any political party that supported slavery during the Civil War.

“The Democrat party adopted pro-slavery stances in their party platforms and this bill says that if you have done that in the past, then the Secretary of State shall de-certify and get rid of the party,” Ingoglia said.

If the controversial bill were approved, voters registered with any “canceled” party would become non-party-affiliated voters.

“It would be interesting to find out if those voters who are now de-certified choose to go back to the party now that they know that they were the party that was advocating for the issue of slavery,” Ingoglia said.

Any “canceled” party could register again, but the name of the organization must be substantially different from the name of any other party that was previously registered with the department.

The proposal is drawing widespread criticism from Democrats..............
