Yeah. The person who criticized you is probably a perfect human being. THEY would NEVER accidentally make a mistake.
    Yeah! Probably.

Sarcasm is hard to rely via type so I have no problems at all with him.
There are many on here that I don't care for and the the feeling is more than mutual, but I do like SamA. Him and I have some fun and most of it is tongue in cheek. We would have a good time having a few beers and swapping some stories and talking politics.
    Very good.
    End of discussion then.

Yes, it was written by Christopher Cadelago, Jonathan Lemire, Eli Stokols, Holly Otterbein, Elena Schneider and Shia Kapos.

Published in the USA by the reliably conservative Politico.

I'm going to be both supporting and voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Did you read the article? It’s very long on supposition and very short on actual evidence. It’s essentially what is known as “click bait”. They speak in generalities, and quote anonymous sources. Who knows? I know one thing: this article doesn’t really say anything.

Yup! Even in the article's title it uses the word "may".
    "Biden MAY not run"

I agree that the authors of the article are not presenting facts backed by evidence.
I already knew that. Yet I posted the article because...
This forum thread is for entertainment.....it's not a court of law requiring evidence :)

    I'll give myself thumbs up

That is all fine, but when you post something without comment it leaves us to try to discern your meaning. For all we knew, you were taking it at face value .

According to this guy's bio he was the economist for Republican senator when the CBO released a detailed plan on SSN solvency. This guys talking about a VAT tax, and raising payroll taxes almost 10 whole percentage points above the CBO estimate from 2014. What is this guy smoking?

Also, next time Republicans have complete control of government they can tackle this instead of giving tax cuts to the wealthy? This shtick of finding balance budget Jesus every time they don't control the presidency is so old.

No one is passing this crap. I wonder sometimes if all Republicans share two braincells to repeat the same crap over and over with no memory.

Here is a no bias, sane breakdown of the problem, and solutions. I even attached the CBO's graph for the people who don't care enough to click the page.

I read, and I don’t know enough to know if this is true, that simply eliminating the cap on SS taxes (after a certain amount of wage income, SS taxes are no longer deducted) would solve the entire issue. This is so simple, if true, make everyone pay SS taxes on all of their wages. Everyone should have to pay the same 6.5% that we all do, not some lower percentage because their income puts them above the cap.

J-Donk, is there anything like you posted that is newer than 2014?

Oh, and remember when Biden said that Rs want to cut Social Security and Medicare, and they all lost their shirt and called him a liar? Lol.

This is something I hadn’t heard about, but I do remember Mayor Pete talking about it at the time:

Actually, there is this. It covers a lot more then the social security trust. You can go look at the raw report as well.

One of the biggest eliminators of solvency problems is getting rid of the cap. It's why I can't take SFL's twitter econ bro seriously.

Eliminating the taxable maximum above $250,000 of wages would yield over $1.2 trillion in additional tax revenue over a decade – enough to close 42% of the 2032 gap.

Why are you using 2014 numbers? I'm not sure of the right way to fix Medicare and Social Security financially, but something needs to be done other than demagoging anyone who even mentions reform.

I agree the Republicans only care about the debt or fiscal issues when they are out of power. When they are in power they spend like the Democrats.

Eliminating the cap only covers 42% of the shortfall for SS. That doesn't cover the Medicare shortfall which is bigger than the SS shortfall and it also doesn't include tax the rich for anything else on the progressive agenda.

Keep reading, he posted more recent data. They just need to start by eliminating the cap on paying SS payroll tax. Make everyone pay the same percentage. Then we can see how things go with that change for a few years, along with some immigration reform to allow more people to come in and ease the labor shortage - that just might be enough.

Rs have been wanting to get rid of SS, Medicare and Medicaid for years. Decades, even. It’s foolish to let them slash them with their hypocritical alarmist rants.
