Justices must be “hyper vigilant to make sure they’re not letting personal biases creep into their decisions, since judges are people, too,” Barrett said at a lecture hosted by the University of Louisville’s McConnell Center.

Barrett said the media’s reporting of opinions doesn’t capture the deliberative process in reaching those decisions. And she insisted that “judicial philosophies are not the same as political parties.”

“To say the court’s reasoning is flawed is different from saying the court is acting in a partisan manner,”

Her comments seem pretty reasonable and well-grounded to me.

ACB is a man's type woman.

The Yahoo News version of this was titled:

Justice Amy Coney Barrett argues Supreme Court isn't 'a bunch of partisan hacks'

It was accompanied by this photo of the event:

My initial reaction was that this must be an article from The Onion. Either that or Barrett is a next-level genius in creating ironic memes. Justice who was appointed in the most partisan hack-ery manner we've ever seen in this country sitting next to one of the biggest partisan hacks ever to inhabit the Senate and manipulate the system in the most hackish of partisan ways.

If only they were true. Trust me, they all have their own agendas.
Well, it goes without saying that everyone has their biases. Agendas? Maybe, but I do think people are capable of setting their biases aside and judging on the merits. Ideally anyway. We don't live in an ideal world though. Just hard to know what the motives are of people, including justices. I'll give the 9 justices a greater benefit of the doubt than anyone else in Washington for the most part though.

Nice dress. She's missing her white bonnet :hihi:

The republicans got what they wanted. I have doubts wether the SC will ever over Roe. However they made their stand on a decision about how it was to be enforced. This whole sue your neighbor to enforce a state law which in its core is unconstitutional was a nice back door and will eventually be tossed.
Now here’s my conspiracy angle. This was done this way so that the conservatives could strut around and say they overturned RvW. They wanted to do it to make the masses happy, but they didn’t really want to go full out because this is a trial balloon. It will get democrats lit up and it will be a matter at the voting booths this next year. What the republicans in my opinion are doing is waiting to see how much of a backlash. If they lose big time then they will go back to the endless stupid challenges just like to Obamacare. If republicans don’t get beat up in the midterms they will keep pushing it.
In the end though I doubt they want Roe overturned anymore than they want immigration solved. It’s too good of a point to get the masses fired up, and get the donations pouring in. Lose Roe to incite the masses then what? Guns are a losing cause. The NRA way overplayed it’s hand for Trump and will be lucky to come out of this as an effective unit, plus the gun companies are having issues also. Republicans need that personal values wedge. Without it they have nothing. And the smart people in charge know that sometimes you don’t want to get what you always wanted.
And yes ACB is an absolute freak.

A woman that is feminine and smart is not a bad thing. Most guys still like feminine women that are smart.
It is actually sexist of you to even make such a comment on a supreme court justice.

Have you talked about how handsome and masculine Kavanaugh is?

Same reason the minimum wage was never indexed to inflation. Same reason the tax code is a convoluted mess, etc, etc. They need their issues to pander and keep their constituents. Policy solutions are nearly always more political than practical.

I am not gay, therefore I have no opinion on his looks. However, I find Judge Coney to be attractive and very smart. She is very upright and the Dems could not come up with a scandal to derail her. I am pro-choice, but I respect her views. I trust that she will make the correct decisions.

    Your PC is duly noted.

At least you acknowledge you were sexualizing a Supreme Court Justice. Progress is the goal.

Fair enough. From personal experience, though, I will say that the younger generation of judges (Barrett is under 50) were brought up in an atmosphere of partisanship and obsessive allegiance to the cult of Scalia and Federalist Society dogma. I went to law school with people cut from a similar cloth. Nice folks, but complete and utter toadies scrambling to get clerkships in the federal judiciary.
