I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

That's not the issue with folks like Candace Owens, and based on your posts I know you're more than smart enough to understand that.

The issue is you have a woman that is using her blackness to profit by creating comfort for racism deniers. There's a long history of leveraging a tiny minority of people of color to invalidate the issues the overwhelming majority feel. It dates back to slavery. Plantation owners would invite abolitionists to dinner and have them served by house slaves. At some point during dinner, they'd ask a particularly loyal house slave if he felt slavery was wrong. Of course, the house slave would profess his love for his master and that he was very well cared for and wouldn't ever want to leave. It was much better than the message they would have received seeing the living conditions of the field slaves. In return for this service, the house slave was often given some extra scraps from the master's table, as long as he ate them outside of course. There's an article that was written by a former abolitionist explaining that his entire view of slavery changed after one of those dinners because if the house slave was so happy and well treated how could the institution be bad?

The problem isn't honest disagreement, it's perpetuating false narratives and misinformation under the guise of "I'm black" in order to get a few extra scraps from the table. It's the content, ignorance, and goal of her disagreement that makes her repugnant, not the disagreement itself.
I agree, but there must be at least one POC in the world that actually thinks like a conservative and is not a prop who is trying to make money or please someone else. Why not?

    Are you serious?

Colin Powell comes immediately to mind

    Clarence Thomas would fit in.

Condoleezza Rice definitely is in the conversation.

Hell Ben Carson has entered the room.

That was in like 1 minute of thinking.

and I am woefully undereducated on Black Conservatives

I'm not a fan of Tim Scott, but, he's another one. There is a new black freshman Congressman from Florida as well, Byron Donalds.

JC Watt from back in the day

and all of them very different from

    Candace Owens
    Katrina Pierson
    That Sheriff guy
    Stacey Dash
    Diamond & Silk

Add in Michael Steele, former Saint Benjamin Watson, Ulysses Bridgeman and on and on.

The key component is to look for black conservatives whose only source of income isn't being a black conservative. Generally what you find is educated, thoughtful, successful men and women who just disagree on certain key points.

Great, I was wondering! I am no fan of any on your list. They are a bit too conservative. However, I can see why they are conservative. It is something that goes along with a certain personality trait. As a moderate I rather pay attention to moderates. Do you know any new school moderates?

Moderate is a tough word for me. It really means different things to different people. I consider myself a moderate but my friends on the left tend to think of me as a conservative and my friends on the right think I'm a radical BLM Marxist. I think that makes me moderate. :ROFLMAO:

What do you consider a new school moderate? That would probably help to name a few.

I like to listen to intellectuals that are not possessed by ideology. The new kid on the block is Coleman Hughes. Another one that is a bit older is Robert McWhorter. Glenn Loury is also great, but he is more conservative (not a Trumper!) However, i would assume they would be classified as white supremacists by most on the left. Yep, been in the middle can draw that label.

OK, but let's not forget that many on the left make a handsome living by being more woke than anyone. It works both ways.

To some degree, yes. I would ask who though? Maddow maybe? There just isn't as much of a market for it on the left. CNN and MSNBC combined barely hit the ratings of Fox by themselves. The left-wing book and speaking circuit are laughable compared to the right. If there was as much money on the left-wing demagoguery as there is in right-wing demagoguery a number of the right-wing demagogues would be spewing it from the left and the current left-wing batch would ratchet it up. In the Bush years, for instance, there was a lot of money in left-wing demagoguery.

I'm curious who you think is making big money off it on the left on an individual basis. I'm not saying you're wrong necessarily, just saying I can't really think of more than a tiny handful and most of them made their money during the Bush years (Michael Moore, etc.).

    wow
    ==================

A new Morning Consult poll shows that GOP voters are more likely to blame Congressional Democrats and President Joe Biden for the January 6 Capitol attack than former President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans.

When pollsters asked Republican voters who's at fault for January 6, 52 per cent pointed a finger at Democrats in Congress and 41 per cent said Biden.

Just 30 per cent held Trump responsible, while 22 per cent said Republicans in Congress.

Among all voters today, 61 per cent believe Trump deserves some or a lot of blame.

Another 52 per cent said Republicans in Congress deserved blame too.

Overall just 27 per cent said Biden should be blamed and 33 per cent said Democrats in Congress.

Republicans were more likely to blame Trump directly after the attack...............

This really isn't all that surprising tbh. Disappointing, for sure. But it is what it is.

Hell Ben Carson has entered the room.

I met Ben Carson about a month ago, he was (he has since moved) the neighbor of my oldest son's friend's family. He was cordial and he seems very fit for a guy his age. And he was an incredibly gifted MD for sure. That said he is a religious wack job of the highest order....

I am an agnostic and I generally avoid religious fanatics. However, religion served a purpose when there was no science to explain the world. I have also observed that people with a religious tradition tend to do better academically. The Jews and the mormons have magnificent success despite their wacky religions.

As do Muslims and Hindus. I'd argue that is more cultural than religious. It's a lot to unpack, but for a variety of reasons when you move out of mainstream western culture, especially American culture, success rates go through the roof. Pick 10 high schools and look at the list of Valedictorians. How many named Johnson or Wilson do you see?
