I figured we needed a thread specifically about the media.

There was a very big correction recently by the Washington Post.

That story was supposedly "independently confirmed" by CNN, NBC News, USA Today, ABC News, & PBS News Hour. How could they all have gotten the quote wrong if they actually independently confirmed the story?

Why do all the errors always go in one political direction and not closer to 50/50?

We don't often agree but this 100%. I think that is the goal of the word play used by the far left and I would concede there are some far righters that play the word game, but just not as much as I have noticed on the far left. IMO

It isn't about who does it more often, who cares.

If someone says they don't like the word "surge", then don't use it around them. Be the bigger person and move on to the important part of the discussion.

It is silly to argue over it either way.

My bad, nevermind, we don't agree. LOL

I have no desire to change my speech because a word I want to use to describe a situation that also fits that into the real world and logical definition and use might hurt someone's feelings or make them uncomfortable. Debates are supposed to be uncomfortable, free speech is meant to be uncomfortable. In my opinion, they can be the better person and not limit someone's speech based emotion or feelings not based in reality.

I think the debate is needed in order to move forward but it seems they want to debate on words instead of actual problems.

To me, it seems most of the radical left does is word play. BLM, ANTIFA, Equity, inclusion, diversity these are few examples.

That means the word is just as important to you as it is to them.

It’s either silly or it isn’t

When those words are directly and purposely misleading in an attempt to alter the conversation about something significant, then yes, words do mean something to me and society.

You say Covid 19, I say China Virus. You say ANTIFA, I say Fascists. You say Inclusion, I say exclusion. We say racist, you say anti-racist. It is silly, but the right didn't change the definition of common words, the radical left did, but we (center and right of center) get called out for noticing. To me, that is silly.

Yes, it is silly to care about it.

I wish we had your sense when the whole China Virus = Asian hate crimes was going on on this board.

The whole China virus thing is ridiculous. It was always Covid 19. We were calling it COVID-19 before it got here, not China Virus. My Chinese neighbors resented the term. I always treated them with respect and actually apologized to them for the knuckleheads using the term.

COVID-19 is the correct name for the disease. China Virus is something made up by your god-king.

Fascism is, by definition, a right-wing ideology. Because I’m sure you would agree that ANTIFA is a left-wing organization, it cannot be fascist, by definition.

Reverse-racism isn’t a thing. It’s just white self-victimization. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_racism?wprov=sfti1

Who changed the meaning of words, again?

Now 'surge' is a no no word to use. It always amazed me that he media has all these rules on word play, usually for one side. I know, I am being a snowflake, but it is pretty obvious.
I'm lost. Where was "surge" stated to be an issue? From a news organization?

Not shocked. We often have blind spots to what we like or believe to be true.

I doubt Farb follows AOC. He’s probably getting it from some right wing outrage site that gets clicks from this sort of stuff. He is virtue-signaling for his buddies, while owning the lib***** and SJWs. We are after all merely snowflakes who cannot deal with reality. We should all be red-pilled.

I could make the same argument that liberals or left-wingers online do the same damn thing you accuse Farb of doing and have fellow like-minded posters on message boards similar to these virtue-signaling too? As well as saying conservatives replying to politically-themed videos or blogs on YouTube or other social media websites criticizing them as being oversimplified or one-sided as "being snowflakes".

Ive actually watched some of British left-wing investigative journalist John Pilger documentaries , especially the one.when he gave soft ball questions to controversial Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez and his ram-shackled handling of what was once one of South America's strongest, growing economies. His films are horribly, pathetically one-sided and biased.

If you're going to try and force a mirror into Farb's face, it might be a good idea to point out some of the rambling absurdities of the " woke" crowd that the very right-wing Bill Maher has consistently criticized and called out for their contradictions and lack of credible, clarifiable messages.

I mean, if we're being honest, Chris Cuomo, Don Lemon, and Jake Tapper do "virtue-signalling" all the time except in Cuomo's case, his brotherly love sessions from early last summer have come back to haunt him and make him and CNN look ridiculous for their over-the-top favoritism and ridiculous sentimentality as Gov. Andrew Cuomo fights not just for his forking political life but also not being imprisoned for covering up those 15-20 thousand elderly Covid-19 patients who died and who were deleted from the state's nursing home data bases.

He’s talking about a post that AOC made on Instagram. I guess he follows her.
It was on Fox News today.

Thanks for that. I follow her on Instagram, but miss about 90% of what she puts out there, since I'm not in NYC.

Ok, well, we're talking about the Media, not politicians. I happen to disagree with her, but I understand her point. However, I just don't take 'surge' as only meaning a military surge. Actually, the first thought I have is of a water surge.

So, maybe Farb can go back to his issue with the AP that I thought I gave some thoughtful feedback on vs jumping to the next random outrage.

Aren't you tired of always being angry?
