This just illustrates why lawyers for Fox were able to successfully defend Tucker by claiming no reasonable person expects to get facts from him.

How are people fooled by this? The minute I saw the fake claim on social media that the “windmills are all frozen” I was skeptical. There are windmills all over the North. It just didn’t make sense.

Not sure what will come of Paxton's lawsuit, but this here is a slap to the face of consumers.

    BS excuse after BS excuse.

And this is why you can’t trust vital services to the free market, greed always finds a way.

I imagine the feds will do something and Texas continue being a shirt head state who puts business and politics before the well being of their people.

What is it that we were always told? Oh yeah, “Elections have consequences.”

Texas has roundly resisted socialism in all its forms they say. Now they are suing for what exactly? This is that “free market capitalism” hard at work.

These customers agreed to a contract that has variable rates. Those rates increased within the boundaries of the contract. If you have a $16,000 energy bill, either pay it or lose the service you agreed to for breach of contract. A contract that you didn’t read and if you did you more than likely didn’t understand the full extent of the liability.

Don’t like it? Well that is letting the market decide is all about. According to their law, these class action folks are gonna lose (my bet is a settlement). But more than the contract they signed, they are culpable because they voted for this. Multiple times. Without fail.

If only there was some group of individuals who could set up rules to protect consumers from price gouging or rate spikes during times of Force Majeure, or could put caps on variable rates. In Texas, that’s just socialist librul democrat talk.

I think I addressed this before but I have a lot of "liberterian" friends in Texas who are now crying out for the government to save them. Oh, the irony.

What you all COULD have done was vote for policies and politicians that will regulate big business so these corporations don't crush you at the first opportune moment. But no. We need our "freedom."

This whole ethos is based in the idea that people are generally good and will work to better society instead of taking everything for themselves. Sorry. That is not how humans are built. We need to be forced to do the right thing most times.

People, for the most part *are* good. Corporations aren't people. Corporations exist to make money, period. They're also often run by the very worst human beings, because that's how corporate culture works.
Putting a corporation in charge of the basics like power, water and healthcare is just begging to be raped.

This is my point exactly, but explained much more clearly. Since humans are running corporations, who exist only to make profit, we must regulate them to keep these people/corporations from screwing everyone over in the search for more profits.

So far we are doing a terrible job of that.

Since we don't have a thread dedicated to just Right Wing Media Lies, I'll leave this short response to Tucker Carlson's view on women in the military here. He sure pissed off a lot of people last night it seems.

Maybe we can edit the thread title and cut off the part about the weather in TX and just use it for all major Pinnochios put out there for millions to parrot the following day.

Wow, that was powerful....wonder if it makes it onto the Fox news segment....NOT.....

I'm a bit surprised. I wonder if he got permission to post this because generally, in the military, making statements like this would have to be vetted and approved. Chain of command and all that.

I agree 100% with what he said, but wearing a uniform and doing it from his office, could end up being problematic.

Dave, what did he say that could be problematic? I watched it after I read your post and expected him to say something a bit controversial. I didn’t see anything that could be misconstrued as that.

It's not the message itself per se. It's him speaking from his position that is problematic. Unless he was given permission by his superiors, commenting on issues that are part of a social or political commentary are pretty much no nos. He can speak his mind as an individual, but as a representative of the military, he's not really supposed to be speaking.

Now if he was given permission, then disregard all of that.

I can’t speak for Dave, but I was active duty Army for 5 years and I see his point.

Speaking to the general public in uniform discussing a media personality isn’t something an officer or Senior NCO would do without running it up their chain of command.

It isn’t even about whether or not the statement is controversial. When guys at his level say anything in uniform they know they are speaking for the service.

I’m sure he had the support of the pentagon.

Carlson is just another Trump. Both came from extreme wealth and neither have served in the military or held anything close to a real job or have experience the working class lifestyle that the lion-share of their supporters have. It's what makes their widespread support so baffling. Like when Ted Cruz proclaims the GOP is the party of the working class when he, himself, is the elite.
