Recently CNN aired an interview where one of the guests suggested what is in the topic.

I agree with the removal of confederate statues around the country, but should this also be done for founding fathers?

I have massive problems with those who celebrate traitors.

I have no problems with those in the South who recognize their failures and lack of vision

"As long as you think just like me, admit you are lower tier status than us and better behaved, we have not problem with you people"

I get it confused? The conservatives are the nazis? Straw gaslight goal postman's and all that?

Farb you and I have had this discussion before so please spare me the ad hominem.

Yes, you are very very confused. I must have miscommunicated. My apologies for not being clear.

I have no issue with anyone who’s doesn’t canonize traitors. That goes for any traitor to the US anywhere, not just the confederates. I get it from my Lt. Col father who taught me that. Btw, I made no mention of Republicans, nazis or the like. Just people who like traitors.

I have no clue why anyone who claims to love America would canonize it’s unapologetic enemy combatants. It is so strange to me. They literally went to war with the United States and tried destroy it. What other enemy combatant gets that treated with reverence? You brought up Nazi Germany. They have WWII re-enactments? Is there a not insignificant portion of their population that calls it “the War of euro aggression?”

And forget the treachery for a moment. What other national embarrassment do we glorify? Trail of Tears have any awesome mountainside rock carving? When is the next meeting of the Sons of Wounded Knee?

I apologize again if I’m unclear.

I think there absolutely should be a Confederate Museum with all the artifacts. multiple if necessary. I think it should be in the former confederate capital.

I think there should be museums for the Old South too. Places where people like me can learn more about everyday southerners, without the backdrop of the Civil War and slavery. It might soften my opinion to see other aspects of daily life and to better understand the heritage some try so hard to hang on too.

I am totally cool with battlegrounds being national monuments as well.

"The decision by the San Francisco Board of Education in a 6-1 vote Tuesday night affects one-third of the city’s schools and came nearly three years after the board started considering the idea. The approved resolution calls for removing names that honored historical figures with direct or broad ties to slavery, oppression, racism or the “subjugation” of human beings."

This kind of seems like the slippery slope we were told that would not happen, stop being conspiracy theorists, is happening. I would hardly call these guys and gal a 'traitor' unless I am missing something besides employing Chinese spies?

So parks, museums and venues of history are not acceptable either? This simple "just remove the confederate that statues on public grounds sure evolved pretty quickly to
Are they carpet bombing all of Gettysburg and planning on rewriting history to prevent what happened there from being taught to future generations of students?

So what if they remove a few stupid (and not all that creative, IMO) monuments from the empty field where a battle took place. People can and will still visit the tourist attraction without the monuments. I guarantee you that nobody has ever gone there BECAUSE of the monuments.

And your guarantee would be completely wrong. A very simple google search on the subject will prove that.

Okay. I've been there. The monuments are nothing to write home about. If people actually travel there just for the monuments, that's on their own dumb selves.
Thank the lord you are not a art museum curator.

It's a city run school system making decisions for themselves, even if you or I disagree with some or most of it. Isn't that the Republican war cry in recent years? Local governments making decisions for themselves without big bad Federals mucking it up for everyone?

I mean, we all know San Fran is going to San Fran. It's been that way for half a century.

That's what was so ridiculous about all of the public outcry all over New Orleans at statue sites - tons of people coming into the city from all over the state and even other states to protest something that isn't even happening in their own municipality.

    Quick whataboutism:
What is Jackson, MS voted to erect a statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest? You would still have the same stance.

The answer is no, you would not.

I don't care what Jackson does in Jackson. If the people in Jackson vote to put up a statue of a huge racist in an effort to prove to the rest of the country that any notion of racism having decreased in the state is just a PR campaign, they can go for it. It doesn't bother me or affect me one bit. If the people of Jackson somehow managed to get a statue of Forrest erected in New Orleans, I'd have a huge issue with it. I only care about what happens in Hancock County as far as Mississippi goes. That's where I've got family and spent a lot of time growing up there as a kid.

They are free to make their own decisions and we can still criticize those decisions.

I would be against the erecting the statue, but would not expect the people of Jackson to care what I think.

I would be supportive of people who protested against the erection, even if they weren’t from Jackson, but would not expect the people of Jackson to care what anyone not from Jackson thought.

I might even support a boycott of Jackson over it, but would not expect the people of Jackson to care what anyone else thought.

If you would not expect the people of Jackson to care what you thought, why would you support a boycott that is designed to make the people of Jackson care what you think?

Not to single you out but the whole gaslighting rebuttal of 'why do you care, it doesn't effect you' is only able to played in one direction in todays world. The simple fact is that people see something that they think is wrong and unjust, they should say something riot and burn down private businesses in recent cases.
