This just illustrates why lawyers for Fox were able to successfully defend Tucker by claiming no reasonable person expects to get facts from him.

How are people fooled by this? The minute I saw the fake claim on social media that the “windmills are all frozen” I was skeptical. There are windmills all over the North. It just didn’t make sense.

We started the process after the oil crisis in the late 1970's. While we do have enough North Sea oil to see us through hard times. the government started a lot of research into alternate energy sources. In our case - windpower made the most sense since we don't have any major rivers, and the country is too densely populated to allow for nuclear (people don't want it). So in 1991 we completed the worlds first Oceanbased Windfarm and have been expanding ever since.

We also have powersharing agreements with Norway. They deliver hydropower when we don't have enough wind, and we deliver wind when the water dont supply enough hydropower.

We are currently exploring Wave based hydropower and are hosting 4 different prototypes currently under development

This is a 10 year test that examines both productivity, reliability as well as environmental impact of the installations
You do know that France and Japan did start doing something similar at least in exploring alternative, energy solutions or sources after the late-70's OPEC oil crisis with investing heavily in building nuclear power plants although popular sentiment in the latter has decreased, understandably, after the Fukashima nuclear meltdown/crisis caused by the 2011 Japanese offshore earthquake/tsunami that ravaged and destroyed huge parts of far northern Japanese coastal villages, towns, and cities and their local economies.

Fukashima has nothing to do with our dislike of nuclear power - Chernobyl in 1986 definitely does, but even more so the fact that Sweden build a nuclear powerplant less than 20 miles from our capital (since closed after major protests from our government)

Fact is, that as a small country we simply do not have anywhere to put such a plant and still have a "safe distance" to major population areas.

Sad part is that 5 years ago there was a bill proposed in the Texas legislature that would have required the energy companies to be prepared for events such as this. It was killed by Republicans because it was "regulation." We keep electing fools and are shocked when their foolish actions/inaction leads to disaster.

TX also was warned about this 10 yrs ago during the SB blackout...

We occasionally have inconveniences in the UK due to 'severe' weather. Rarely power cuts - other than local ones caused by falling trees taking out power cables - but frequently trains are halted and airports closed.

We grumble about this, but we also understand that the costs of 'weatherproofing' our railways and airports would be out of all proportion to the (in)frequency of such weather conditions.

People in Texas are dying because they have no power or water and it is below freezing. Their houses aren’t insulated as well as those in the north, they often don’t have experience how to survive in the cold, they are elderly or sick and vulnerable. I saw where a phone bank of volunteers had found an elderly man who hadn’t eaten in two days, living alone, and got a volunteer to pick him up and take him to a warming station and get him some food. How many more will have been missed? How many more like him will be discovered dead in their houses when this is over? I saw another person say their neighbor had decided to walk to the local convenience store and come across a woman frozen dead on the sidewalk.

Separate observation, Ted Cruz left for a vacation in Cancun yesterday. Beto has been organizing said phone banks, or at least publicizing them. He has been publicizing places for people to get help and raising awareness for the people of TX. Texas made a stupid choice for their Senate race a few years ago. They elected someone who participated in a Big Lie enthusiastically and helped foment an insurrection. Someone who doesn’t care about his constituents, clearly.

Most of the US does the same. Especially the NE and midwest. If the power goes out there, it is usually due to freezing rain causing power lines to break due to the weight.

It is just stunning to see the amount of stupidity, hubris, and greed that lead to this in Texas. And now every day folks are stuck with the consequences outside of their control, all while their "leaders" try to blame windmills. Seriously?

Get ready for this argument in the next week or so about how Biden is causing gas prices to rise. When, it's Texas's fault for not winterizing their grid, or being connected with the US, or you know... regulating their power companies better.

Ward, did you see the insane electric bills some consumers may be getting in TX? I don’t pretend to understand the way they have structured their utilities, and I don’t know if this was a reliable source, but I saw a report that it will be possible for consumers to get high bills for the companies issues. They are allowed to pass on the cost of the damages directly or something. It was said people could get electric bills over $1000 when this is over. I would like to see more reporting on that, I don’t remember now where I saw it.

If that came to pass, then the Democrats would have to be barking mad not to make HUGE political capital out of it when the next senate elections roll around ?

I'm sure that jackass had something to say about Obama when he was in Cuba during the French terrorist attack (I think).

Homie helped fuel an armed insurrection of the Capitol and then he abandons his state as it deals with major problems exacerbated by policies he supports..

Ted, you're making it too easy for all to see what an Un-American piece of shirt you are.
