This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

It won't be complete until they lose the Senate by a filibuster-proof margin.
That can only happen if reasonable people can be arsed to vote in a non-Presidential election.
America doesn't have a lot of reasonable people left in stock.

There are a lot more reasonable people than there are cultists.

So evidently Trump has released a long statement where he furiously attacks Mitch, and threatens to primary anyone who dares to oppose Trump. He makes it clear that he will demand unconditional loyalty.

So much for Graham talking to him about uniting the Republican Party, lol.

What will the donor class do? Will they support a Republican Party that consists of a personality cult that sponsors domestic terrorism? That supports crazy conspiracy theories and mob violence when election results aren’t to their liking?

Can the Republican Party survive with one foot in “crazy” and one foot in the donations of large corporations?

How can a person who lost the House, lost the Senate and lost the White House hold such sway?

They think they can’t win without him, yes, and they are just embracing all of the crazy because of that. But, they were winning before him, they took back the Senate during the Obama presidency, right? I’m fuzzy on this as it seems like a lifetime ago. I don’t remember them being that bad before Trump.

If they go full Trump it will mean embracing Q, and the rest of the crazy. I’d like to think they can’t win that way either, with the exception of a few local races. If they primary the few good R senators and run people like Laura Trump, they will lose seats in the Senate in 2022. I sure hope, anyway. 🤞🏻

CNN just reported that the original one was worse and had even more insults towards McConnell.

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday slammed former top ally Mitch McConnell as a "political hack" who "doesn't have what it takes," days after the Senate minority leader voted to acquit Trump at his impeachment trial while criticizing his "disgraceful dereliction of duty" on Jan. 6.

"The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political 'leaders' like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm," Trump said in a 600-word statement where he also blamed McConnell for Republicans' losing two key Senate seats in a special election in Georgia — and not his own baseless arguments that the election was rigged.

"It was a complete election disaster in Georgia, and certain other swing states. McConnell did nothing, and will never do what needs to be done in order to secure a fair and just electoral system into the future. He doesn’t have what it takes, never did, and never will," Trump's statement said.

"Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again," Trump added.

Trump didn't write that, it's too many words...and I doubt trump knows what the words "dour" & "sullen" mean, and he'd never say "unsmiling". The original version probably read:

"Cocaine mitch, a complete sad embarrassment forgot about the many great things I did for the republicans, allowed the election to be stolen...it was stolen, a great shame that a landslide victory was stolen from me...I make sure that we put many strong people in the Senate so that this NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!"

The problem is too many reasonable people don't have any guts. They need to stand up. But...it's probably too late for all that.
As long as the too many reasonable people with no guts vastly outnumber the Trump Ride or Die supporters, those with no guts don't really have to do anything that requires guts other than vote against Trump and candidates he backs to primary his "enemies" going forward.

Not going to lie. I've never been a fan of Bill Cassidy. We disagree on everything. But I was proud to se him be one of the 7 who had the backbone to vote to convict Trump for insurrection. Granted, if he hadn't just gotten re-elected, that likely wouldn't have happened, but since he did, he was able to stand up for the truth behind what we all know happened that day and in the days, weeks and months leading up to it.

The Republican party is the Trump party. Their was a poll that showed 70% of Republicans would leave the party if Trump formed a new one.

GOP polling is at 37%. It will be interesting to see if that moves after the trial.

Don't forget that 70% of Republicans today isn't the same as it was pre-2016. A lot of people have left the party already and registered as independents or no affiliation and say they won't go back to the GOP until it shows it is done with Trump. I mean, the guy never had a national approval rating over like 42% and went out with it in the 30's. IDC what they say about 90% of R's supporting Trump and the job he's doing. If that's true, then there really aren't that many R's left for his approval numbers to be so low for so long.

this is where we are now
    ===============================

More Americans questioned in a new survey said that they think Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is representative of the Republican Party than Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), underscoring the rightward drift of the GOP.

According to the Quinnipiac University poll out Wednesday, 28 percent of Americans said Greene represents the GOP, while 25 percent said the same of Cheney. Forty-seven percent did not offer an opinion.

Both lawmakers have been thrust into the national spotlight in recent weeks. Greene generated a slew of headlines over past remarks calling for violence against Democrats, claiming school shootings were staged and suggesting wildfires were caused by a secret space laser. She has also promoted the groundless QAnon conspiracy theory. The House voted this month to strip her of her committee assignments.

Cheney, meanwhile, has drawn fierce Republican pushback over her vote in January to impeach then-President Trump for his role in inciting the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill. That vote resulted in a censure by her state Republican Party and a failed effort from House conservatives to remove her from her leadership position....................

Just saw this which goes along with my quoted post:

I wonder whether Mitch has any second thoughts about voting to acquit and not whipping his caucus to do the right thing.
