I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

You’re absolutely right. I ended up completely redoing our bedroom and kitchen with all new appliances etc. because we were not spending money on vacations etc. so we had far more disposable income sitting in savings. Even with all of that I saved thousands more than I’d projected for the year. Not going on vacations alone was a huge savings for us (we are a family of 5 and take a few trips a year).
We're in a good spot here, too. We took the most expensive family vacation we've ever taken over Christmas, we've replaced some appliances, and we're redoing the floors for our entire house. All cash.

Because we never lost a dime of regular income, the pandemic has definitely been a net positive for our household economy.

I came across this tweet a little while ago and I figure this is a good place to put it considering the context.

And here is another one by that same person. Edit...the whole thread is worth a read imho.

We, being us conservatives, have been talking about this since last summer. The media (social as well) was not going to tarnish the reputation of their golden child (he was the anti-trump) of the pandemic. They had no desire to actually ask questions, well besides right wing publications. Remember, there was presidential talk about his idiot.
That was par for the course before the election.

‘perhaps they were looking into it anddidn’t have enough evidence? As there are lots of left leaning stories notin the news.

I guess that is possible, but I tend to usually go with the already proven actions of the media in the very near past.

Maybe I have not seen it but have you or any fellow travelers had a ‘mea culpa’ about Trump?
In particular to this conversation any come to Jesus about the metric tonnage of lies and misinformation he unleashed (and y’all directly abetted or at least left unchallenged) that directly led to so much misery, heartaches and deaths?
    (That’s an actual question)
And if you have not - if you have not been able to admit that the earth is actually round - why would you think we should put value in your media analysis?

No, I have not because I am not a crazy person.

    Who is 'we'?
I could not less if you or your 'we' put any value in my media analysis. I just thought I would reply to a thread on a message board that I am a member. My apologizes if that caused you any pain and grief, as it clearly did. I have a lot of faith in your ability to bounce back from this.

Where is your mea culpa about Obama? I was told I could keep my healthcare plan with Obamacare. What about how Snowden exposed that the Obama administration was spying on most of the country? What about all the innocent people killed by Obama’s drone strikes and Obama getting us into Syria?

Obama was a pretty mediocre and stereotypical corrupt President. But he didn't urge a mob of psychotics to attempt a ham-fisted overthrow of the government. Had he done so, rest assured, he would be as bad as Trump.

It seems that whataboutism is all that will be offered today.

no pain yet - i'll probably have some after helping build more re-education facilities
i was kinda hoping some would have snapped out of the spell

Obama was not a god - i called fault where i found fault
that's what y'all forget about the Left - we have no problem eating our own
we'll get rid of an Al Franken (even if we don't want to) while the right lionizes a Gym Jordan (or the dozens of other equally misanthropic examples)

Ah. I see why you would feel that way. Fox has retracted and essentially stepped back on all the election fraud. They even apologized to the Nashville mayor for their false story on him...and one of our posters even brought it up on this site as some truth back last summer. Hugh hewitt, a big never trumpet changed his views the day his station manager sent a memo demanding everyone get in line behind trump. So I get how you wouldn't trust the msm.

    Holy shirt.

Your whataboutism for leading a gosh darned insurrection on the Capitol of the United States is that you had to switch forking doctors?!

    Like, is this real life?

Funny changing doctors is the big crime but Mexico paying for a multibillion wall is....silence. Sheffield s observation is on point.

I'm not going to spend all day looking for every article I can from this past summer, but here is one from the NY Times. (go in incognito mode to read). We can quibble on asking tough questions vs just reporting the facts. Either way, questions were swirling.

ALBANY — As New York moves from coronavirus crisis to sustained recovery, there remains a heartbreaking fact that some are trying to explore and others seem to be trying to exploit: Nearly 6,500 people have died of the virus in nursing homes and other long-term facilities in the state.

Republicans in Washington and elsewhere have attacked Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo for his role in, and response to, those deaths; Mr. Cuomo has returned fire, accusing his foes of politicizing a human tragedy and arguing that the blame for the number of deaths lay with infected health care workers, not his own policies.

The death toll — a figure that surpasses that of many states — has also inspired questions from Mr. Cuomo’s fellow Democrats, who rule the State Legislature and have scheduled hearings on the issue next month.

The tension and pain surrounding the topic have bled into the debate over a related bill that is expected to be passed on Thursday by the Legislature.
