What keeps the prices for everything from puffing up to absorb new, available cash?

is there a mechanism to keep rents and goods and services from increasing by 500%?

    That's already being done extensively.
Yep that is why so many people have the side hustle jobs like Uber and other things to make up for the lack of hours being offered in the job market.

Back in the good old days when the minimum wage started full time employment was the norm not like now.

When I was a kid nobody really had a side hustle the time off was family time.

The uncoupling of employment and healthcare is something we needed a long, long time ago. It's an antiquated idea, but it's no longer about the actual benefit so much as it is symbolic and facilitates the moralizing of one group over another.

    It's so messed up.

I see relatives of mine who have no job or no job with healthcare/insurance coverage who talk about how un-American it is because it will reward the lazy people. They will have to pay for other people who don't work. That's not true. But, of course, that isn't the concern. What they want - what the need - is to feel a sense of superiority.

My sister is a public school teacher. She has had to get a series of CT scans on her head for some vision and headache issues that we suspect might be genetic (caused my dad to lose an eye) and they are trying to be proactive.

None of that would cost me additional here. But she's had to pay THOUSANDS out of pocket in a single calendar year and she's already not rolling in $$$$ as a teacher in Louisiana.

And her coverage is probably better than half the people in Louisiana.

That move would absolutely cut the knees out of a lot of arguments against labor/healthcare nonsense

And old article and I think Buffett may have changed his tune, but only because he was trying to create his own insurance with Amazon and others. Either way, doing the same thing, bigger group, less cost per person.

The billionaire investor tells "PBS NewsHour" that government-run health insurance "probably is the best system" because it would control escalating costs.

"We are such a rich country. In a sense, we can afford to do it," Buffett said. "In almost every field of American business, it pays to bring down costs."

In a single-payer system, the government uses taxpayer money to finance basic health care costs.

The Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA) chairman cautioned that health care was "way outside of my circle of competence" and stressed that he was speaking with "limited knowledge."

But he noted that spending on health care accounts for roughly one-sixth of the country's economic output, up from about 5% half a century ago.

"Health care is gobbling up well over $3 trillion a year," Buffett said. "It's just about the same as the federal budget -- I mean, it's getting up there."

Buffett has said health care costs hurt businesses more than corporate taxes do. At a Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting this year, he called medical costs "the tapeworm of American economic competitiveness."

As Republicans in Congress try to come together on a plan to replace Obamacare, some progressives have argued for a single-payer system.

Senator Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent and former Democratic presidential candidate, has endorsed a "Medicare-for-all, single-payer" health system. Such a plan would almost certainly be defeated in Congress.

But the part I bolded still stands true.

theres a lot of information here

"And the people who lose their jobs first when you hike up the minimum wage are Black teenagers," Paul said. "So, you know, 'why does Joe Biden hate Black teenagers' should be the question. Why does Joe Biden want to destroy all these jobs?"

Paul said Friday "even the government says that nearly 4 million people will lose their jobs" after the minimum wage hike, but the claim is a reference to the high end of the budget office's range of potential outcomes, according to FactCheck.org. The low end of the range was “about zero” jobs lost.

To support his claims, Paul's office sent the fact checking site a link to a July 2019 report from the budget office that did not say more than doubling the federal minimum wage would definitely result in about 4 million fewer people working.

(there is also some info on impeachment and a false equivalency thrown in)

"If they're going to impeach people who incite violence, I have a question," Paul said. "Are they going to impeach (Sen.) Bernie Sanders? You remember the guy who shot Steve Scalise … the guy was a rabid Bernie Sanders supporter, and you remember what Democrats were saying at the time.

"They were saying, Republicans' health care plan is: You get sick, and then you die. That sounds like an incitement if you're telling people that the Republican Party is going to kill you."

Paul clarified he did not think Sanders should be impeached but said it would follow the same logic leading to the former president's second impeachment.

Rand is just a grade A doosh. Bottom 5 senator. The only reason he's not the worst is because you've got the reject Biden electors idiots at the bottom.

If your political diatribe would earn you a C- from a generous teacher if it were a research paper, maybe you shouldn’t hold public office

True dat. His ranting about Trump after the Capitol attack didn't last long. Good grief, such a rube.
You could tell Graham was scared and drunk making those rambling and incoherent marks the night of the attack. When he sobered up he went right back to sucking up to Trump. That he recently secured another six-year term -- coupled with being harassed in the airport by Trumpistas -- tells me he is more afraid for his life if he stops groveling to Trump.

As far as Rand Paul... yes, he's one of these idiots that wants us to distance ourselves from China yet refuses to accede to a $15/minimum wage. I suppose he wants products manufactured in America but is fine with American workers being paid pennies like the workers in China. Meanwhile I guarantee you he uses a cellphone made in China.

    It's the Libertarian way.

They like to say that a rising tide lifts all boats, but does anyone ever ask about what happens to the people who can’t afford a boat, or wonders if maybe the tide is rising because those people are drowning.
Reagan’s tax cuts and the trickle down economy they have created has made such a massive disparity between the top and even middle of this country it’s appalling. Add to the fact that idiots will believe anything, and social media gives them that platform to announce their stupidity. Going on about how Biden will raise the capital gains tax and how that’s robbery.... as they are looking at their popcorn ceilings with a Chevy in the driveway (don’t hate on my ceilings or my truck). Or when they see the top rate and get mad cuz their taxes are going to be ripped away from them. Please. If you’re getting your tax info from TikTok, I doubt you have to worry about Biden’s top rate.

People always want to talk about the trickle down from Reagan.

That was not the problem giant problem the huge cuts in capital gains made it then profitable to corporate raiders to run our manufacturing out for a buck. That is the one that stings us in the arse to this day.

They made a perfect storm for killing all kinds of industry in this country.

1 out of every 8 manufacturing jobs in this country was in the textile industry before the 80s. The textile industry was major employer of poor people in rural America.

The american textile industry died in the 80s and 90s in large part to the new tax regulations.

That is just one industry that was ruined.

The tiny companies did not really get all the press the big ones did like gulf oil, twa, and others. The tiny companies were the ones that hurt us the most they were the ones employing rural people that vote red now.

Everyone wants to blame the big box stores for the killing of jobs. Not really we made it profitable for wealthy to run industry out of our country first.

without even reading it, I bet that 2019 paper was about doing it all at once, not a stepped plan over 4-5 years.

Maybe the former VP needs this to get passed quickly?

Prompted me look at this background and... apparently Pence's only 'real' jobs were a two-year stint as a college admissions counselor at Hanover and briefly practicing law for a year or so in the mid 80's. After that he was a radio talk show host until he was elected to Congress, then Governor, then VP.
