There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

They tried to play it off as a settlement, they drop the suits and get to look at the state’s confidential voting records. GA SOS said there’s no agreement to give them anything, lol.

    Pathetic.

Of course they would lie, that's all they do, feed the people lies to further the destruction of this nation.

resident Donald Trump for the first time acknowledged his defeat in the Nov. 3 election and announced there would be an “orderly transition" on Jan. 20, Inauguration Day, after Congress concluded the electoral vote count early Thursday certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Trump’s acknowledgment came after a day of chaos and destruction on Capitol Hill as a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol and unleashed unprecedented scenes of mayhem in hopes of halting the peaceful transition of power. Members of Congress were forced into hiding, offices were ransacked, and the formal congressional tally of Electoral College votes was halted for more than six hours.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” Trump said in a statement posted to Twitter by his social media director. Trump's account had been locked by the company for posting messages that appeared to justify the assault on the seat of the nation’s democracy.

Trump added, “While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”

The only reason Trump claimed that there will be an orderly transition is to stop the hemorrhaging of people form his Administration via resignations... at least according to people who are way smarter than i am, that’s the reason (no link, just various things I’ve heard/read.)

Thinking about this, maybe it was better that this happened yesterday? Can you imagine what would happen if a bunch of these idiots tried to disrupt Biden's inauguration? Do they still put it on with 100k people or more with Covid running rampant and now with the possibility that some of the dolts yesterday try to show up and make a scene on the 20th? It something I just started pondering a bit.

There is still time for that to play out :(

Yeah, what I'm thinking is now that the security folks have seen what could potentially happen, maybe there are things they can do to prevent it from getting out of hand.

I know this is supposed to be a public event, but I think Biden should consider making the event invitation only or closed to the public and just do it televised.

If this has happened on Inauguration Day, I would think there will be more dead bodies today. Secret service won’t play around and the national guards would be there in 2 minutes. They will have the inauguration. Can’t let these idiots win.

Yep, still very likely. I believe Biden's already said there wouldn't be a crowd and a very reduced number of people up there with him for the inauguration because of covid but no doubt some crazy magats are going to try to get close to him.

Yup. SS doesn't play. They'll have a series of snipers out too.

The have contingencies in place for that, you would hope. Biden and Harris would be whisked away to a secure location. He would be sworn in there and take command of the US Government and deploy the resources to quell the uprising.

Also, there is going to be a lot more security in place and restriction of movement for the inauguration, I'm sure. That many Trump supporters won't be able to get that close. They would be dispersed long before.

All which made yesterday the perfect day to carry this out with the lacks security in place and ignorance/complacency of the Capitol police and Trump DOJ as to the dangers of Trump's supporters rallying together.

Still, you're right. If it was bound to happen due to Trump and the GOP, it's better that it happened yesterday. Everybody is on high alert for these terrorist now.

The swiftness and specificity with which Fox News retracted their claims in response to Smartmatic's demand suggested to me that they had really well-paid lawyers telling them Smartmatic's impending civil lawsuit was about to bury them. I don't claim to know much about defamation / libel suits, but I don't think Sidney Powell taking the a page out of the Alex Jones - Sandy Hook playbook is going to end any better for her than it has for Jones. And every dollar those Q/Powell/Flynn followers spend funding her crappy legal defense team is a dollar they can't spend funding fringe R political campaigns or destructive orgs like the NRA. Much rather them spending energy and cash self-destructing than destroying the country. They don't seem to understand the difference anyway.
Dominion filed its defamation lawsuit against Sidney Powell today.

This is a serious document drafted by highly competent lawyers. Sidney’s post-Trump hangover is coming very soon.

Will this even get to discovery?

I don't see why it wouldn't. It clearly meets the elements of a business defamation claim - the harm to Dominion's business reputation is patent. It is timely and in court of competent jurisdiction.

Absent some kind of quick settlement, the only way a case doesn't go to discovery is where the defendant gets a preliminary dismissal (by motion filed before an answer). I'm sure Powell will file a motion and it's hard to say until you see her arguments, but on its face it looks solid enough to get to discovery.

    1.5 Billion dollars...

From Yahoo News daily play by play.
Dominion voting systems sues Sidney Powell for more than $1.3 billion
Dominion Voting Systems filed a defamation lawsuit against attorney Sidney Powell for her baseless claims that the company, which manufactured electronic voting machines used by some districts in the 2020 election, changed votes for President Donald Trump to votes for President-elect Joe Biden.

Powell's wide-ranging conspiracy theory variously implicated Dominion, deceased Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, the CIA and Chinese communists in a plot to rig the election against Trump. But her efforts to prove her unfounded assertions in court were repeatedly rejected, sometimes derisively, by federal and state judges.

"Powell’s wild accusations are demonstrably false," the lawsuit reads. "Far from being created in Venezuela to rig elections for a now-deceased Venezuelan dictator, Dominion was founded in Toronto for the purpose of creating a fully auditable paper-based vote system that would empower people with disabilities to vote independently on verifiable paper ballots."

The company says the paper ballot safeguards used by its machines would have made the sort of plot alleged by Powell impossible and that her claims are not rooted in any factual basis.

Dominion seeks compensatory damages of $651,735,000, punitive damages of $651,735,000 and reimbursement for its legal costs. It also is asking the court to grant "a narrowly tailored permanent injunction requiring the removal of all the Defendants’ statements that are determined to be false and defamatory."
