I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Looks like we will have a deal. Just need to finalize language.
I wonder what the language is?

328 million people x $600 = ~$197,000,000,000. (And not everybody will get it)

I know that a chunk of that will cover extended unemployment benefits but where is the rest going?

Not everyone will get a stimulus check. I’m assuming it will have the same qualifications as last time. I can’t remember the exact number but I think it was something like 70% of the population qualified (many as dependents).

There’s money for PPP loans, vaccine distribution, tax breaks for other things, rent assistance and a slew of other things.

Plus there’s pork. There’s always pork.

Vaccine distribution, money for schools and funding the Payroll Protection Program. For me, the PPP was the most important thing. The small company I work for was able to retain all of its employees through the epidemic when almost half (including me) were about to be laid off. At my age and in this location, finding a comparable job would have been impossible and finding any job would have been unlikely. My company still lost hundreds of thousands of dollars of profit (not just sales) and everyone still stayed employed.

We have this going for us.

I kinda get where they're going with that. Businesses used to be able to write off food expenses until his new tax cuts changed that. A lot of places would provide snacks for their employees, etc, and then stopped, or did less.

His idea is that it would free up money for businesses to have folks go out to lunch, or bring lunch in. The issue is, not many 'outside vendors', clients, or other business partners are meeting up for lunch. They're still staying away.

It's a way for the economy to try to take care of the restaurants.. but reality is, they'd be better served with targeted legislation and PPP loans.

the real problem would be shuttering, then trying to reopen. You'd lose all of your talent/staff.

There's a new strain of the virus that is spreading rapidly across the UK which, according to early reports, is 70% more infectious.

LONDON — The United Kingdom found itself increasingly cut adrift from the outside world Monday as countries took drastic action to stem a new mutant coronavirus strain from spreading worldwide.

Almost two dozen countries including Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Iran, Colombia and Morocco have suspended flights from the U.K. for 48 hours or more. Saudi Arabia has closed its borders and suspended all flights regardless of destination or origin.

Crisis meetings were scheduled in London and Brussels as officials grappled with how to respond to the variant, which experts estimate is 70 percent more transmissible than others in circulation.

Meanwhile in the US, trump has his head up his arse crying about the election he has lost over fifty times now and he has not even addressed this latest threat. It time for the rest of the world to come to our aid by calling out his incompetence, because it clear to me that there are at least 70+million of us that just refuse to see it.

I seriously think the Trump administration should be held criminally liable for their actions/inaction concerning coronavirus.

I’m sorry they’re delaying you guys, GA. Let us know when you get your shot.
