    The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

    Can you elaborate on this a little? I have never heard about this before.

    It's pretty common in Trumper circles. Basically they argue that Biden, Hillary and Obama in the Oval office discussed investigating the Trump campaign for possibly being in contact with the Russians and has been on ongoing theme through his Presidency. You know, the whole collusion thing.

    That said, that's not my view, but certainly some people still think that Obama and people in his Administration tried to railroad Trump.

    As far as transition they signed the paper work the day after the election. He had full transition resources immediately.

    Probably shouldn't include wild conspiracy theories.

    Article on the history of coups and what Trump is doing
    ========================================

    Historically across Latin America, when constitutionally elected leaders were denied their legitimate mandate, there was just one word for it: coup. Just think of the emblematic cases of Salvador Allende in Chile (1973) and Jacobo Arbenz in Guatemala (1954) — both democratically elected leaders who were toppled by the military. In other cases, such as in Uruguay in 1973, Peru in 1992 and Venezuela in 2017, presidents decided to ignore the law and attempted to stay in power indefinitely via self-coup.

    A coup against a democratic regime can be defined as any political action by state actors that aims to either maintain or take over power by unconstitutional means. In short, there is a coup when military renegades or democratically elected leaders suspend the democratic process.

    This definition — and global history — is why Donald Trump’s refusal to accept his electoral defeat and his refusal to initiate a transition of power has alarmed so many, and led some to question whether a coup was in progress.

    To be sure, Trump’s clumsy attempts to deny President-elect Joe Biden’s win already look to be failing. But his actions — denying and attempting to overturn the results of the election and getting top Republicans and Attorney General William P. Barr to indulge these dangerous efforts — are still symptoms of the fragility of American democracy at this moment.

    And this is exactly why we should be talking about the history of coups: how they happened and, most importantly, how they have been stopped. Trump’s refusal to concede is an attack on the state and democratic government. While his actions may be dismissed as merely tantrums, the history of dictators in Latin America over the past century suggests the need to take this dangerous moment seriously.................

    Every single Republican Senator passed on going on Meet the Press this weekend...

    I've been told that I'm crazy...but I don't think this will end well. I wasn't alive back then but this draws some parallels w/ the Japanese shutting down relations before Pearl...now will there be a sneak attack? not in the traditional sense, but I feel there is a growing sentiment within the GOP that they really think they can pull this off and keep trump in power using the EC (this is the sneak attack).

    I have difficulty believing that they're, in reality, that severely short-sighted.

    Cowards and enablers? For sure. But for now I'm still believing that the Republicans in the Senate know that accepting a Biden presidency is the superior long-term decision for them rather than attempting to overturn a (not so close) election via an unprecedented use of selecting new electors. Even as shirtty as what they're currently doing is, blatantly going on and attempting to steal the election that way would still be a major escalation from where we are now.

    I think it's pathetic but I think it's posturing mostly for the Georgia Senate race... But we do very much need to have more leaders in the party come forward this week and accept reality. Because at some point it does stop justbeing a posture.

    Republicans didn't vote to impeach trump but the point is that they should have. History will bare that out. As to Obama's administration sabotaging the incoming trump administration, l'm glad it's not your view because it is simply another in a 24,000 long list of lies from the trump administration. Anything coming from the trump administration should be taken with the same grain of salt that with which flat-earthers should be taken.

    Anyone looking for a short-term position at the White House? Position might be opening up soon...
