Conversations like this are happening a lot more often on social media and this is the mindset of the progressive left. I’m thinking I need to reevaluate my voting this election.

So let me ask you guys, do you vote based on whether you like a candidates personality or based on where they stand on political issues that mean the most to you?
I disagree with this, I think extremist are the loudest in each party but not the majority. I think that there are things the dems support that I just can get behind. I think that to come here and give bible quotes and discuss Christian beliefs and then turn around and vote for a party that believe in killing babies would fall right under the hypocrisy you speaking about correct?

Although I was a lifelong Republican, my principles have always meant more to me than my party. A principled conservative can look at a particular issue, say illegal immigration, and want to deal with the problem without towing the party line. I have left the GOP some years ago, but would have never been a proponent of building a wall along our entire southern border. I would never have ignored the humanitarian element of people seeking to enter this country, legally or not. I was actively involved in attempting to find solutions to illegal immigration over a portion of the last three decades, meeting with government leaders from around the nation, but I could never support the immigration policies of this administration, which I view as impotent, irresponsible and decidedly un-American.

You alluded to abortion with your "killing babies" comment. From a personal standpoint, I probably have the most extreme position on abortion of anyone on this board. But you know what, my POV and even the POV of those seeking election doesn't matter as long as the Supreme Court upholds the right of women to have abortions. So a politician's stance on abortion doesn't even register for me, because Congress isn't likely to pass a law banning abortions and the law probably wouldn't get past SCOTUS, so it's an issue without substance as far as elections go.

In my view, voters should consider what their principles are rather than what their positions are on individual policies. Hypocrisy is saying you love America while hating your fellow Americans. Hypocrisy is protesting a governor's efforts to keep her state safe by showing up at the state capital armed to the teeth. Hypocrisy is waving flags, talking about freedom and embracing the trappings of "patriotism" while ignoring the authoritarian actions of the president.

Opposition to Trump isn't about personality, it's about principles. He is the embodiment of the worst characteristics you could imagine in a president -- he is a self-serving lying narcissist with no understanding of how to effectively govern a nation who embraces our enemies, repels our friends and has a shoot from the hip style of foreign policy. So later today, I will gladly cast my vote for Joe Biden, a man with whom I have a multitude of policy disagreements. My vote is for character, decency and the hope of unity over the evidence of Trump's lack of character, dishonesty, division and rejection of our institutions. My vote is one that will not make any difference in Mississippi, but it will be one I will cast proudly as a means of saying that I reject Trump, his authoritarian tendencies and his policies of division, racism and conflict. A Biden presidency will not likely be everything I would want it to be, but four more years of Trump risks too much to consider.

    Well said.

Echos my political thoughts on abortion. I just wasn't able to phrase it so well.

    By babies, you mean fetuses?

You're wasting your time. Until these abortion zealots are faced with a life or death situation with their loved one or themselves you are wasting your breath. Whenever the topic comes up in my life, I relay my wife's story hoping to shed light on the reality of women's healthcare in the South. I don't think it's ever made a difference. Hell, her own parents support the very politicians that are causing American women to die.

I think you are the one who has shared in the same threads I've discussed our experiences with Emory refusing to terminate a pregnancy for a cancer patient ew got to know while my wife was going through breast cancer.

Nothing you or I said made any difference to them.

This is a simple question for people who are currently “both sides-ing” this current issue. There is no honest way to say both sides are the same. The emphasis in the previous sentence is on the word HONEST.

Anyone can find an anecdote and extrapolate that it represents an entire movement. I find the progressive left suits me more policy wise with less centrism and more bold action. You clearly do not see it the same way. That's fine. People are different.

Robert Reich has called for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to "name every official, politician, executive, and media mogul whose greed and cowardice enabled this catastrophe."

I don't see Reich as very radical and certainly not as far left as is being insinuated. Maybe we should as someone said earlier look at policies instead of individuals, especially those who aren't politicians.

You see things like this thread a lot on social media. Facebook users post links or memes that seemingly support their dubious claims but when called on the inconsistencies the original poster never actually addresses the questions, instead they change the subject or never return. Or Mr Trump’s Twitter, he makes outrageous claims then never responds to replies and never admits he was wrong.

A U.S. Representative wants to create a "naughty list" of American citizens.

Saving deleted tweets from politicians to remind the public isn't a 'naughty list of American Citizens'. You're trying to make it sound like she's asking to dox random people. That's a total fabrication.

Where do you get that its tweets from politicians only?
I men there doesn't seem to be any reason to create a list of politicians who supported Trump. We have that already.

I may be over thinking it, but when she's talking about being complicit, that implies some level of power or equal footing. She later follows up by saying "the party". So, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt that she means politicians and talking heads on TV, as those she is speaking of.

It doesn't require that much of mental gymnastics.

So she wants a list of Republican politicians? LMAO. Those don't already exist? She is talking about people expressing support for the President of the United States on twitter.
