After Trump and everything that Republicans have turned their backs on, the name "Republican" will forever be stained in American history. With so many former Republicans out there, what would / could they possibly call themselves? What would be their platform? Would it be a return to true conservatism where fiscal responsibilty is a practice and not a throw away line? Would it be conservatism that is against handouts in the form of government handouts to billion dollar corporations and industries? Would they support accountability for everyone including police? I'm really interested in what a new home for true conservatives would look like. While there are many Republicans that will vote for Biden and other democrats, they are doing so with an "enemy of my enemy is a friend" reasoning. What do you think it will look like? List your New Name for the party and then give what you think their platform will include.

I mean, they already have the Libertarian Party.. seems like a lot of former (R)’s identify as Libertarian... Honestly, i think it Trump loses in November, they’ll all turn on him and continue on as Republicans as if nothing ever happened.

I’ve seen The Lincoln Party bandied about, but I have no idea what their platform might be.

While some former Republicans may have found a place in the Libertarian Party, I suspect those former Republicans have a crisis of principles. On some level, conservatives have more in common with socialists than they do libertarians. Socialists at least have some concept of social order, even if it is contrary to the conservative position, while libertarians profess no order whatsoever. They consider any obstacle to their all important "liberty" to be a problem to be removed, regardless of any collateral damage. Libertarianism is a political philosophy of self-liberty, even at the expense of the things that would perpetuate that liberty. In a sense, libertarianism is a soulless, egotistical philosophy of self-interest, so I wonder why Trump hasn't embraced it. :hihi: My point is while a conservative would be out of place in a liberal political party, there is even less reason for a true conservative to want to be among libertarians.

I have a very low opinion of Libertarian-ism, but I never could state it as clearly as you did. You laid out the core, soulless principle. Thank you.

I consider myself a republican out of necessity. I consider myself a conservative due to principle.
I like a few points of the libertarian party, mainly smaller government that stays out of the peoples lives for the most part.

For the sake of this thread, I won't venture into the shift of the democratic party that has alienated a lot its base. Besides, Democrats where the party of slavery and jim crow and they moved on without changing their team name.

I don't think that the Republican party will suffer at all from having Trump as president. I think if you see a Trump win in November, you will see a rise across the world in nationalism. Fingers crossed.
As far as the republicans continue being republicans, that is a fear of mine as I think the current group of republicans politicians in Washington, with always the few exceptions, are corrupt and immoral and don't deserve to be elected to the HOA much less our federal government. My hope is that the Republican party begins to vomit the old guard that is just as responsible for letting the country get in this shape as the left. I actually think the normal Americans are getting to a tipping point where the conservatives want a change too. They want elected officials to actually do their job and just not pander to their voters and get rich behind the scene. That will begin with a Trump second term.

I don't want another party... I want non-labeled individual candidates with integrity and conviction to vote for - That can be trusted to say what they mean, and mean what they say... and more importantly... makes decisions for the betterment of all Americans - With the concept in mind that true leaders only unify constituents when they commit to bringing light to the "colors" that bind us within decision making process... rather than that which others would present as only "black and white" - In the attempt to divide and conquer.

I dont even know where to begin.

But lets start at "nationalism" - you are actively rooting for what exactly? I want to be sure I understand your definition

As to the elected officials getting rich behind the scenes...you think Trump is not? He will root this out, while continuing to graft himself?

    im so confused here.

Yeah I couldn’t tell if Farb was serious or just trying to troll. At this point my money is on the latter. 🤔

I am with you in feeling like just about the whole bunch in Washington need to leave and have to get a real job.

Obviously, we part on that last sentence. I do not see any basis whatsoever for a belief that Trump could have a positive affect on the ousting of panderers and those acting in self-interest. To the contrary, that is entirely Trump’s method of operation. There is a mountain of evidence that he has little interest in actually solving the problems of our nation unless there is a collateral political benefit.

I have to say that I do not understand the optimism some people have for a second Trump term. What indications has he given that the nation would be better off if he got a second go of it? Is he more likely to start caring about all Americans or is he more likely to double down on his autocratic behaviors? The idea of Trump winning again is simultaneously sad and scary.

I don't want to put words in Farb's mouth but I'm guessing this is what he meant by nationalism:

Nationalism: identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.

I think we have needed to focus on our needs as a country for a long time and stopping endless wars and being the world's policeman is why we need some nationalism.

nationalism leads to war. Every. Single. Time.

nationalism leads to war. Every. Single. Time.
Socialism leads to famine, death and collapse. Every. Single. Time. (I can use 'periods' incorrectly too to show how serious I am.)

Yes, I have a different opinion than you so it must be a troll job. If you want to know what my definition of "nationalism' is, use google. Its the standard definition. I am not a fan of changing the meaning of words to fit an ideology.

I am talking about corrupt republican politicians leading up to a presidential election and you guys still can only talk about Trump and call me to task because I didn't specifically call out Trump? I also didn't call out corrupt Democrats for the sake of the thread. So odd.

I thought this would be an actual good discussion but as usual, I am wrong. It is like nothing existed before Trump came along and he created every problem. This country has been broken for a long time with career politicians, especially Democrats, and Trump has been in office for 4 years.
On this board, if you don't start every post by "Trump is bad" then the only reply is 'he must be a troll' or "but you didn't mention that Trump did this". It is exhausting and not a real attempt at dialogue and I was stupid enough to take the bait.

Maybe the boogeyman you guys have built up in your head from the media telling you to be scared is actually working?

I asked you a legitimate question before the others, yet you specifically chose to reply to them? I was about to be ready to have a discussion regarding your stances, but alas, its tainted now and just wont work.

Why not avoid that and have the discussion with me and they can read and interject as needed, and you can choose to ignore or respond?

I was truly interested in understanding your penchant to have the "career politicians" removed for graft, while supporting Trump continues to graft the tax payer with stays here and abroad at his very own properties- for more than the going rates.

As to nationalism- i can understand wanting to primarily focus on "domestic" issues, but unfortunately, being the leading superpower ( if you will ) tends to require focus split between that and global. Part of me would like more attention to domestic issues, but the world we currently live in demands that we pay attention to the outside world. Lest we wake up one day and see our influence and status lagging simply because we wanted to improve America from the inside out.

Furthermore, when would it be enough? At what point would you feel comfortable of saying "ok this is good, we can now shift some focus" and exactly what sort of "looking inside" are you talking about?

Don't know what to tell you. Sorry?
I answer the most recent reply and then work backwards. Your questions were answered i think.

Yall enjoy the thread where you all discuss among yourselves as to what us 'republicans' will change our team name too. Richard will have to speak for all of us becasue if we do, we are either stupid, blind or morally corrupt.
