I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Richard-

I am so sorry to hear about your wife.

I can’t help but think you may have a claim under OSHA. They are required to provide a safe work environment and are required by criminal punishment to, at a minimum, provide you with a list of known health hazards associated with your workplace. Once they knew, they were then under obligation to notify under OSHA’s Right to Know clause.

Eeyore or one of the lawyers would know better and tell me I am stupid (you won’t be the first) but here is OHSA 3021, the Worker’s Rights. It is pretty clear on this stuff and they can be charged criminally.

ETA- I saw your last post. There is a whole section related to Right to Refuse Work when you feel your safety is at risk.

Your wife works for ghouls and I want to say not nice things about them but I like it here.

Thanks. I very well may look into reporting this.

but before learning the result of the test was positive. He even intentionally leaned over one of the ladies' desk when he was asked to stand away from them.
I'm not a lawyer but I remember a few laws being passed governing intentional infection with HIV. I don't know if Covid-19 would apply but I would think that this person could /should be charge with battery. Maybe not since he wasn't aware of a positive test result.

That's an easy way to get punched in the face if done to the wrong person. I myself am too in a high risk category. If someone I asked to get out of my personal space intentionally leaned over my shoulder, they would be meant with a very sharp blow from an elbow.

Anyone else besides me, think Jim jordan is trying to be all smart, but is as dumb as a bag of bricks?

No, I think he, like most other Trump supporters, are purposely pushing a narrative that they have been ordered to do...he is an idiot not necessarily for what he says, but for his willingness to play the role he has been assigned....it will be interesting (if ole Mitch did indeed tell those in power to distance themselves from Trump) to see how views on the pandemic by some of them suddenly change....

Richard, so sorry to hear about your situation. You guys definitely have an OSHA claim, I worked at Labor for over 20 years, not for OSHA mind you, but I'm familiar with what they do and this is right up their alley....good luck my friend....

Laurie Kilmartin is a comedian and writer for the Conan show. Her mother got Covid in May and passed away last month. Her mother was a Trump supporter and contributor. Tonight she returned her mother's Trump Founder's Club card.

A remarkably restrained response.

It looks like de Blasio is being criticized for something similar that Trump was criticized for. He stripped control of the contract tracing from the health department and placed it under Health and Hospitals.

Well if you read the story, you can see that it is far from the same :)

In recent weeks, the city's contract tracing program has come under fire after complaints from contact tracers about the program being disorganized and having poor working conditions.

Barbot also butted heads with NYPD Police Chief Terence Monahan when he asked for more face masks for his officers in March, according to the New York Post. Following the incident, which was widely reported in the media, Barbot disappeared from public view for days -- at the height of the coronavirus outbreak in New York City.

In this case there definitely seems to be cause for change and not to obscure or minimize the actual case numbers which seems to be the reason for what Trump did.

I read the story and it appears that it was bad enough for New York City's Health Commissioner to resign.

She was the one in charge of the program which was described as " being disorganized and having poor working conditions" and also "having disapeared from public view for days -- at the height of the coronavirus outbreak in New York City". She obviously was not doing her job!

Having to resign seems like a very reasonable outcome

No standard procedure for contact tracing. They ask precisely the same questions here. Fact is that 50% of all cases here at least can be traced back to bars or parties.
Too bad they weren't allowed to ask if people went to protests. I wonder why

Luckily she wasn't involved in the Cuomo nursing home debacle.

Well we are all about feelings in here so if we feel like something is a narrative there we go.

If we feel something does that make it true?

In the example used, it had been discussed ad nauseum why they don’t ask about protests. They ask about large gatherings instead. Which includes protests. See, not everyone likes to tell the government that they were at a protest- especially when the Despot in Chief is sending contract mercenaries to American cities. So by taking the potentially inflammatory “protest” out of their lexicon; people are most likely to answer honestly. Which is really all we want in contact tracing.

When a person tests positive for an STD the Dr. completes a contact tracing of all partners. Ever imagine someone might not want to be forthcoming with all the that information? Yeah, so they have to be a bit discrete in how they ask stuff.

This is all ridiculous. Contact tracing, mail-in voting, masks, etc etc. I am so flipping tired of these “people” arguing over things they know nothing about. We got truck stop cashiers on FB telling scientists they don’t know anything about a virus. Meanwhile they scream that an antibacterial drug is the be all end all to stop a global viral pandemic and science is not letting us have it. And the fact that I said that exact thing to a Trumper and their blind stare showed me all I need to know about their level of understanding.

You actually got that answer in the article. The major part of the protests took place a month ago and the incubation time for covid-19 < 2 weeks.
The article was from July 19th.

We didn’t see an uptick from the protests. They reached their peak over a month ago at this point,” Cohen said when asked why the tracing corps wasn’t tracking protest attendance.

And as the quote says.. that was also the case at the time when the article was written. Another question could be why you post an almost 3 weeks old article as "news"?

Narratives rarely change in months time and hypocrisy doesn't have an expiration date, that I know of. Did the rules change again to fit a narrative?

We (normal people) can't visit sick relatives, have to limit funerals of deceased relatives, can't gather for church services but the woke and powerful does not play by the same rules they demand we do. No need to look father than the BLM protests/Floyd memorials and funerals and the Lewis Funerals/Memorials (how many did they have and how many attended?) The level of sheer of hypocrisy should be deafening but it won't be. There were masks and it was done under the 'approved' view point.
