you link to yahoo but it is a national review which is a far right new source and as such heavily slanted in its coverage (outrage)

I took the time to actually visit the site and read the topic which is a debate area and the material is meant as a presentations for discussion
and far more nuanced than that tweet suggest

    https://nmaahc.si.edu/learn/talking-about-race/topics/whiteness

The topic is actually worth discussing because it talks about how anglo saxon culture over the last 500 years have become the "norm" as how people should live, despite many other culture having diverse and complex social mechanisms which had worked for 1000 of years before being forced into the Anglo-saxon framework. This has happened in Africa, Australia, South America and to some extend in Asia as well.

If the world has adopted an "Anglo-Saxon framework" (whatever in the world that means) then doesn't it stand to reason that the description of it and promotion of such description of it, as expressed by Professor Katz, is another example of IT? As in the categorization and delineation of racial/cultural attributes is a further expression of the cultural norm?

One of the issues with the term "adopted" is that it for the most part has been a "forced" adoption. The persecution and killings in the name of "civilizing" natives are astounding in its extent.

And as I said above - the presentation is meant to be the basis for a discussion on the topic

So 'whiteness' is actually western civilization?

If you disagree, then mount a defense
Why do you so often try to make others do your rhetorical work for you?
Coming in HOT!!! I like the passion!

Mount a defense of what? I don't have a position as of yet to mount an attack or defense. Should I already have my mind made up?

I ever so often try to make others do my rhetorical work for me because I don't want to the do the work myself.

HAHA that insert has since been blown to bits by the internet and social media lolol

    delayed self gratification....LOLOL.
It has? I guess I titled the thread correctly. I did find it curious for the exact reason you said and LOLOLed on.

Why start a topic if you don't want to debate it? Isn't that the whole idea behind this board ?

Yeah you did. delayed self gratification. thats rich. Maybe in 1990 ....but today? shhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet....look no further than the current POTUS to see that delayed self gratification is a thing of the past.

    Ask Brad Parscale

You said it was real, another poster said it has been blown apart so I take that it is not real and more fake news. I couldn't find it anywhere besides York's on twitter. The link to their website about 'whiteness' doesn't show it. It was an honest question, not a gotcha, y'all need to relax a little.

So it safe to say being polite, on time and wanting a two parent household (just to name a few that were brought up) is not just 'white' idea. That is good to know.

If you click the link I provided and which you just copied you would see this text

In that context, we recently unveiled “Talking About Race,” an online portal providing research, studies, and other academic materials from the fields of history, education, psychology, and human development. Our goal in doing so was to contribute to a discussion on this vitally important subject that millions of Americans are grappling with.

Since yesterday, certain content in the “Talking About Race” portal has been the subject of questions that we have taken seriously. We have listened to public sentiment and have removed a chart that does not contribute to the productive discussion we had intended.

The site's intent and purpose are to foster and cultivate conversations that are respectful and constructive and provide increased understanding. As an educational institution, we value meaningful dialogue and believe that we are stronger when we can pause, listen, and reflect—even when it challenges us to reconsider our approach. We hope that this portal will be an ever-evolving place that will continue to grow, develop, and ensure that we listen to one another in a spirit of civility and common cause.

So they took the chart down because it was causing racist blowback not because they had a problem with the information in the poster. Cancel culture by the right?

Is it fair to discuss what was on the poster?

Because my initial thought on the the information presented by the chart was 'this can't be real'. We have established it was real so my first thought is this is crazytown level stuff and most of the things listed were a positive in my mind for a free and functioning society.

What race, other than 'whites', cultures, whatever think that being polite is a bad thing in civilization?

Work ethic? Family units? Time management? Are these different in other cultures enough to be labeled 'white'?

Family units are definitely something that could and have been defined differently in other cultures.

That is true. You mean like in asian(yellow?) and maybe hispanic(brown?) cultures tend to be modeled on a larger family unit? Also the Spanish tradition of the siesta maybe? I get there will be degrees of separation between other cultures, within the same culture and the 'white' culture on certain things (probably due to geography and natural environment) but some I cant see how it is only desirable in the 'white' culture. Universal concepts, like being polite for an easy example.

Being polite is actually one of those things that differ mostly amongst cultures, even those closely related. That is why it is so easy to offend.

In some cultures, you should never show the bottom of your shoes f.ex. In others bare feets are a no-no.

It is not uncommon for people where I live to change into/out of bathing suits on the beach because we really don't have dressing rooms most places while in the US someone would call the police :)

What the article mentioned was that the Anglo saxon "values" were forced on many different cultures during the last 300 years
