I dont post here much, but those who know my posts from the SR main site probably know that i detest all things Trump.. I’m a registered Independent, but much like those on the right who will claim that things like BLM , antifa, etc have driven them further right, Trump has driven me further left... All that said, i feel like the 2020 presidential election is about 50/50 right now, it could go either way.. i also think that Biden, while a decent guy and in the past a good public servant- is now on the decline and is a MUCH more flawed candidate than Hillary ever was, i think it’s kinda hilarious and pathetic that people think Joe is an improvement over Hillary.. but i digress...

My question is this - if you are someone who is planning to vote against Trump ( i dont think voting ‘for Biden’ arouses any enthusiasm) but if you’re again’t Trump, and he wins in November- do you still want to live in America?? Part of me wants to stay if he wins, to eventually get us back to a decent place, and not ‘let him win’ in the metaphorical sense.. But the other part of me kinda thinks, Why would I want to live in a country with people who would elect this fool, this international embarrassment TWICE?! Establishing residency in a place like Belize or Costa Rica sounds appealing, and generally the dollar will go further (at least until Trump’s done wrecking the economy.)

Dont come at me in 6 months when he wins with ‘I thought you were moving to Canada?’ Or any of that nonsense because that’s not what I’m saying.. I’m just saying that it wil be real hard to witness the further decline of the U.S. up close and personal if he wins another 4 years.

    What are my options?

    You could move?

i’ve long thought about retiring to a foreign country, since in America you need to be worth at least $1 million to retire comfortably, whereas in a lot of countries you can retire nicely on $250k or less.. For me, if Trump wins then maybe i just accelerate that plan, instead of doing it in 20 yrs from now, i do it in 2 or 3 yrs.

I did not ask about your options...

Pretty sure if my wife and I had portable careers, we’da done been gone

Nah, I wouldn't. By the time you get settled in wherever, his term would be coming to a close anyway. Just have to suck it up and hope the next guy can fix the damage.

I have a bit of an itch to move somewhere a little more progressive within the US, and I was putting serious thought to pulling the trigger had Rispone won.

For those thinking of looking in the US, (western) Oregon is about as close to being perfect in the US you are going to find. We have all of the things you crave in the south- oceans, rivers, mountains, dense thick forests -without all the fundamentalism. Sure we have the eastern part of the state and southern Washington that come into Portland to start fights, but they have become a laughing stock, and are outnumbered 10:1 at their own rallies.

Politically we have Gov Kate Brown, who is a Democratic Socialist. In her last election, her most serious challenge came in the primary...attacking her from the left as not progressive enough. We have a supermajority in both State Houses.

    Some other great Oregon facts-
We have no sales tax! Best tax break ever for the low income brackets.

We require that someone pumps your gas! You may think this is dumb but it is awesome. They get trained on proper fuel handling and creates many good jobs. During pandemics it really is nice to not have to interact at all with any items that are touched as much as a gas pump.

Cannabis isonly legal, it is socially acceptable! Other legal states still treat cannabis like a vice that needs to be in back alleys. Not here! We understand that these are Local small businesses providing a service that is wanted and legal. So our dispensaries are not hidden, they will sponsor neighborhood events, and have a say in our local government’s commerce office.

We have the most strip clubs per capita than anywhere in the US! This is for Joe. I have never been to one of ours but I hear they are amazing.

we have major tech and other company headquarters: Intel, Addidas(US), Nike, Columbia, under armor and many more.

Seattle is only two hour away! I love Seattle. I like the sun and level ground too much to live there though. Plus CoL is ridiculous.

British Columbia is only about 4 hours away! Just in case.....

Anyway, anyone who would like to visit the glorious Pacific Northwest, please let me know. I have a guest apartment and it is always available for use

    I'm sold.

Well I'm a Sanders voter, so it's a given I'm not much a big fan of Hillary or Joe, but there are differences between the two..

    Namely, foreign policy:

I have thought about moving to another country even outside of the whole Trumpism stuff. America is just getting more and more brutal for the middle class. I would actually love to move to BC, but it seems just as expensive. Belize or Costa Rica sound amazing, and not too far from my folks on the Gulf Coast via a flight to HOU or NO. The main thing is that I love the mountains and hiking -- and snow for that matter, so I don't think I could ever live on a mostly flat terrain again like the coast. I've often considered trying out Europe if my job goes fully remote and this COVID thing sticks around for a few years...

Nope, I'll ride it out and continue to try to make my country a better place for everyone.

Oregon is one of the 10 states I've never been to but I've always believed I could live out there. Beautiful scenery, lots of great outdoor activities....

We (Oregon) voted for Sanders in 2016. We got both river and ocean salmon, lake fishing for days.

Portland Trailblazers’ fan base is a lot like the Saints’. Small market, highly educated and we’ll say opinionated on their teams. We just don’t have an NFL football team. Most either root for the 49ers or Seattle. Yeah. But they are to the Oregon Ducks like you all to LSU. And by that I mean nuts.

I grew up mostly, and went to high school in, Colorado and my parents still live in the same house. Objectively Oregon is better in almost every way. Even the skiing is better. and that is enough to get me disowned back home. But I say it because the snow is equivalent but the crowds and traffic isn’t anywhere near the disaster I-70 is on a weekend. And Mt Hood so much closer. it is 30 minutes to edge of town. Plus the mountains here are actually a sub rain forest or something like that so there is massive plant life.

weather is a lot better than I was expecting. Not as good as Los Angeles, where I moved from to here, but there isn’t anywhere that is that good. It rains in the winter here. But it stays in the 50’s mostly and maybe snows once a year. It didn’t snow at my house once this past winter.

anyway, I have lived in 13 states, worked in an additional 8 states and have been to 49. This is my favorite place in the country.

Unless you’re offering me and my wife a job, I can tell you what to do with your precious little state

actually oregon coast is probably top 5 most beautiful places I’ve ever seen
you got me beat, I’ve only been to 46 states

I feel the same way about riding it out, even though, I have considered Europe. I feel like every year I'm worse off.

I was hoping to visit Oregon last fall for a Conference, but I wasn't able to go.
